Traf Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 The Gold Cup is a FIFA officially sanctioned competition, so players are insured by their country in case of the player's parent club being deprived of their services due to injury. Quote
Astley White Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Hopefully then 6 months rehab he will be back. Quote
H Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I'd say they are rested to keep them fit, not to avoid them being maimed by a horror challenge that no one could foresee. ... and do you really think that lower league/part time players go into a match against PL players with the intention of harming them just to make a name for themselves? PGA Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Holden should never of been allowed to play in that competetition. we pay his wages and he owes us to of spent the time training and working with dougie and his team ready and fresh for the season ahead, now another season depreived of one of our better players, sue the backside out of the USA. Yes Dougie was forced at gunpoint to let him play. Afterall, Dougie is used to getting walked all over and told what to do by other people. Jesus Christ. Quote

Dougie/the club probably felt Holden would get more benefit from playing competitive matches for his country, rather than meaningless friendlies for his club as part of his pre-season training. He spent pretty much half a season doing what you suggested last season. Quote

Sending him to play in competetive matches was the right thing to do, it didn't work out obviously, but he had been so long without a proper work out that the only way we could see if he could still hack it was to send him to this tournament Quote
PGA Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 common sense between Dougie and Holden should of prevailed then,. he has played naff all football for 2 seasons for the people that pay his wages(not his fault). he needed easing back into action after such a nasty injury. BWFC comes first not the USA. if he gets seriuously injured so soon its on our watch not the yanks! Quote
DazBob Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Did his appearances for Sheff Weds last season not count towards him being eased into action? BTW, it's "have" not "of". Quote
Traf Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 It's an official FIFA sanctioned event, akin to Euro 2012 etc. You can't refuse to send players. They'd have to have an independent medical exam to get out of selection. Quote

DazBob Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Well, according to the BN, Holden has not yet signed his contract, but he will do on his return. By the sounds of this then, he's currently not contracted to us so I don't understand why the US of A would be obliged to pay his wages..? Quote
