They just cannot stand a Brit winning their race the tank reversing, militant bone-idle garlic soaked cunts.

I hope he fucking nails it today.

*Disclaimer - if he doesn't he's a Kenyan.

Meanwhile, in news on actually British riders, Adam Yates beat Contador and Nibali in the first mountain stage of the Tour, and twin brother Simon beat them in the last. Fantastic talents, going to be serious threats to win in the coming years.

Froome will have his work cut out next year if he wants to win it again, especially with Richie Porte leaving Sky.

Quintano will be a massive threat, he must have had a hard paper round in the Colombian mountains that lad, looks in his mid 40s.

Why the support for the Colombian over the British team?

Just curious

A large proportion of people who followed cycling before 2010 dislike Sky.

Depending on how cynical you are, this is because -

A) They are tool cool for skool and don't want to group with the jonny come latelys

B,)Sky have an 'impressive' habit of turning riders with no discernible climbing talent beyond a British passport in to world beaters, which leaves many long term observers extremely suspicious.

They do also have a habit of strangling races with a strong team to prevent the sort of exciting long range attacks that riders like QuintanA will sometimes go for. To be fair, they've been better on that front since Wiggins retired.

Also arguable that they aren't necessarily great for British riders - Cav's career has never been the same since he went to Sky and was given terrible support. Geraint Thomas is a British rider who could clearly have got top 5 this year, but was supporting Froome and it has clearly taken it's toll in the last couple of stages. The Yates brothers have very wisely gone elsewhere to build their career given Sky's poor record with young talent.

Ultimately, Froome is a guy who has never lived in Britain, so hard to see a strong patriotic reason to back him over anyone else.

Sky had a 5 year plan to provide a tour winner, but achieved it in 3.

When they signed Cav they expected to still be bit players and so could afford to give him good support for sprints.

To be fair they did do this successfully in 2012 when Wiggins helped to set up sprint positions despite being the GC rider.

If you watched this year's tour then the major reason G fell back over the last 2 days was the horrific crash he had. A (French, as it happens) rider lost the racing line into a downhill bend as a recent of a bump with another rider, and out of control hit G at an angle from behind. This had 2 effects - he himself was back on the right track and G cannoned off the road hit a telegraph pole head on and disappeared out of sight down a ditch. At the time I thought his tour was over, but amazingly after he was helped out of the ditch he was back on his bike within 45 seconds (although he lost his favourite glasses).

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the next move for the Yates twins is to Sky but, as you say, it would not have been the right bmove for them in the past.

I'm sorry, but in 2012 Cav had to free-lance for 2 wins entirely on his own merit with no help from the team, and then won the final stage with some glory boating 'team-mate' work from Bradley (who told you everything you needed to know about his attitude to teamwork with the wonderful 'help' offered Swift in Romandie the year before). There were several other stages Cav would have won if he had proper team support. You can't blame Sky for their priorities, but the idea that a 'national' cycling team is best for British results doesn't make much sense, especially now they have no British leaders outside the classics.

Thomas lost 30 seconds on the stage with the crash. Not entirely sure what Barguil's nationality has to do with it. He then managed to climb with the main GC riders on a subsequent stage and only collapsed on GC the day after that, so blaming the crash rather than accumulated fatigue looks rather like wishful thinking.

Given Sky already have Froome and now Landa with Nieve, the Yates brothers would have to have their brains replaced with gold to sign for Sky.

Apparently Chris was greeted at the finish line by locals with glasses of their warm, yellow Champagne. Chris said that he isnt really a drinker and so isnt a good judge of these things, but that he had expected Champagne to be fizzier, colder and not as cloudy.Apparently though, the whiff of ammonia is the hallmark of a particularly fine vintage.
