It’s shit or bust time for Evatt and there’s 33,000 Wembley receipts that have been kept… if the start isn’t great it will come on top pretty quickly. Quote

Feel that way about Evatt myself and there is only 1 scenario he wins me round and I just can’t see it. Players will be here long after. Quote
masi 51 Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Being linked with Southampton forward Dom Ballard 19 who spent a few weeks on loan scoring 5 in 12 before snapping his Patella Tendon which ruled him out from November until the end of the season. This last part makes me feel there may be some truth in it Quote

He's a real fresh-faced kid but I've seen him play for England youth and he's a proper "fox in the box" type - scores all his goals from 2yds - but he has a real instinct for goal and makes excellent runs to get there. Where I'm struggling is that in an Evatt team he would be a luxury because he would be useless pressing 30 yds away from goal - but put the lad in the box and he's a finisher. I dunno - maybe the "new" playing style demands a wannabe Gary Lineker type player? Quote

Belting When we signed Dion, I thought he was a "fox in the box" who would get a ton of goals and he turned out to be an excellent runner who chased down everything and totally fitted into the system we were playing although a lot of the time I was thinking "he shouldn't be there" - he should be lurking around the penalty spot looking for a chance - but we simply weren't set up that way and Dion does a job. Question is whether or not the "new" system would accommodate an out and out finisher? Or even if there is a role in the modern game for such a type of player? Maybe Dom has other aspects to his game that I haven't seen - but from what I've seen he's a goalhanger - or "tittyliner" as we used to call them. Quote

Dr. Feelgood Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Barely any of our recent signing were a thing to me before we got them. Whether going on to be successful or otherwise. So many out there won't fit the Evatt system, whether that has altered a bit, a lot (it won't) or not at all. So every name brings up a Google search. It seems to be slow progress to date ... for a man who stresses the importance of 'a full pre-season' that must be a concern. God help him if we're 3-0 down after 60 minutes v Orient. Quote
Wanderlust Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Iles saying that the Randall deal is dead - which we sorta knew - but announced we offered over a million for him. Really? There's a lot of talk about us not paying over our valuation for players and holding out for the right players at the right price, but I'm struggling to see where that valuation came from unless Randall's skills are deemed ideal for the new system. We have bids in for Armstrong, Dembele and McAtee - and maybe others - and maybe we're just after any one of them rather than all of them? Quote
