Long term we'll be looking more realistically towards next season. Could work out for the best if we do finish in the top 6, as there won't be much pressure.

We only have 8 home games left and no track record of winning many away, as IE took up most of the better fixtures (and squandered a lot of them). It would be a brilliant run of results if SS got us to 6th or higher, no pressure from me for him to do that with the squad he's been left by IE. 7 minutes ago, Cheese said: There was always the off chance of promotion via the playoffs, even with Evatt. February 3, 20251 yr Don't write off the season until it's mathematically impossible. Are we supposed to step aside and leave it to clubs like Stockport and Charlton? It's not over till it's over. Look what shitty Oxford did last season scraping into the playoffs and now higher than Derby and Portsmouth in the championship.

Maybe "written off" is the wrong phrase. But expectations are surely tempered compared to when we kicked off in August.

But it will take more than a tweak here and there, IE had us nowhere near beating anyone in the top half, not just draws and narrow defeats but really getting taken apart in a majority of the games. We can't get in top 6 without winning a fair few against top half teams, so SS needs to prompt a significant improvement, not just a bit. 6 games left against bone fide bottom half teams that we don't have a bad record against. 3 v Wigan, Blackpool and Rotherham which are in the "tough" category. 8 against top half teams (including all the top 4). IE wouldn't get many wins out of that lot, with SS we may just have a chance but that's 11 very tough games with this squad of players.

I get players are often called donkeys It was more the going to the lengths of including Nlundulu (who's really just a bit shit) and the Blackpool beach thing that makes me think there's more going on there Anyway, just a hunch

Clearly the Board spending best part of £1m on Randel wil presumably expect improvement.

It's an anyone can beat anyone type of a season and we've got rid of a manager that was bringing the whole place down, just by doing that we've got a stronger squad 3 games ago Huddersfield spent nearly £4m on two strikers to push for the autos then lost 3 in a row I wouldn't dwell too much on who is where in table, or who we've struggled against under IE too much We're one point off being in the play offs with 17 games left and a new manager with a good track record Lots to be optimistic about, nothing to fear
