Donkey's as a reference to being stubborn, unimaginative and not exactly a throbred is very common. As a reference to being black ... never in my life have I seen that interpretation. Now, whether those are fair representations, of either player, I personally doubt & seems a very, very quick dismissal, but don't seek demons where they don't exist. February 3, 20251 yr I am personally very content with seeing Randall Williams go. There's nothing that Ive seen over the past couple of years that makes me think he's remotely a good footballer even at this level. Hes the most scared to put a foot in, has virtually no physicality, can't make the most simple of passes, can't score, can't really provide. All he has is a bit of pace and a long throw in. Glad to see him depart personally. Edited February 3, 20251 yr by Lostock Whites

February 3, 20251 yr Do you think Chris Markham had actually seen Etete play? He didn't look match fit at Reading.

If memory serves, we don't scout in person now, we do it via video And his stats are probably very good But it still seems strange to me to sign someone on a short-term loan if it's going to take a while to get them fit

There’s defenders with much better strike rates than that.

Hasnt he only playe around 45 mins of football this season? I think Etete is the profile of player we need but not the player we need. By the time he's up to match fitness, could be another 5/6 weeks away. Need someone who can make an immediate impact but they're harder and more expsive to come by.

I'll not bore with the in's and out's here but there are so many sources for scouting reports now that clubs can pull in all kinds of data. A pal of mine scouts for a Premier League team. He is sent to games all over the place, tasked with watching a player. He's also asked to compile a report of 3 other players in the same game that stand out. His reports then feed into the clubs wider database until they start to see trends (eg; different scouts noting same player multiple times). Not quite the same for us, but we do have scouts watching games, and can also access scouting reports in wider databases and Ludonautics info, etc (Sorry - i did bore with it) With Etete, he was never first choice. But we couldn't get our first choice. He's well rated and we might only need to get 10 good games from him to give us what we need. I saw Eidur make his debut in a pre season friendly in Ireland. He was overweight and hopeless and subbed off at half time. We laughed about how bad he was and assumed we'd never see him again. I may be wrong, but think Etete might give us what we need towards the end of the season.

February 3, 20251 yr I really feel good about Williams leaving.....Played some great games and scored /assisted some important goals. He is exactly what Evatt looked for in what he called Hybrid wingbacks.' I call them fast athletes that can neither defend or attack....Never let Bolton down and i wish him all the best, but if we are to go with a four at the back he will not be in Schumachers plans

February 3, 20251 yr Best thing about Williams leaving is that we don’t need to replace with another LB/LWB as we have both. Hopefully replaced with a midfielder or forward

Strange that his (apparently) preferred position was RWB but we never played him there until the end.

Moreover, he was playing in the Premier League. Fair enough - I was looking at League only. Where he averaged 1 in 8, the same as you have quoted for Etete. 22 of Davies 33 goals at that point were in the old school equivalent of League One and Championship. Broader point, as i'm sure you know, is that strikers can offer more than goals.

I also think he's better than he showed on Saturday and feel he might end up contributing once he's match fit But re. the comparison with Eidur - I think there's probably a difference there in that he was a permanent transfer and I don't think there were the same restriction on how many players we could register
February 3, 20251 yr Absolute shit for brains crying and writing a player off after his first 30 odd minutes coming on as a sub. Only been training with the club for a couple of days too 🤦♂️
