Can this Kenny chap play as a 10?

If not, we really don't need another 9.

Huge amount of assumption in that statement of fact.

In reality, we don’t know what we offered, we don’t know if it was lowball, we don’t know what their plan was with him, we don’t know if we changed their plan with our apparent offer and we don’t know if an offer of a million would have had any different outcome.

Your assumption is that I’d made it up.
The actual assumption would be that I believed the Celtic media statement a month or so ago  - source would be the equivalent of Iles so room for reasonable doubt - that they had turned down an offer from Bolton “thought to be in the region of £500k” as Celtic valued him at £1m+

From memory it would have been just before they gave Kenny the contract. If you can be arsed checking it out I can’t remember where I read it but I think it was commented on in 67HailHail so that would be a good starting point for your research.

Celtic media?

A site that accepts its guessing?

I find it baffling that a player 99% of folk on here had never heard of until a few months back, who most have still never seen play and only watched a highlight reel on YouTube (if that), and has only really played competitively in the Irish league, is somehow the saviour of our season and we should break the bank for him.

If he comes, I hope you are right, but there is no guarantee that the ability you have 'seen' will be any better than what we have got and spur us on to success

Despite the religion and politics, Celtic are my second favourite Scottish club after the Binos so I try to watch every game when we’re not playing at the same time - which is often.

Kenny’s appearances have been limited as it’s his breakthrough year TBF but he’s been decent when he has played in the SPL. Don’t forget, he played in the Europa Conference League as a kid,  averaged a goal every 2 games in the Irish League and has represented ROI at every level up to U21s. He is young and still maturing, but this year he’s already shown he can compete at a higher level.

Despite your fictitious assertion, nobody has said he would “save our season” - it’s too early to know if it needs saving anyway - but what has consistently been said is that he has great potential and would have been an excellent buy if we’d been able to get him.

Read it properly

PS: Seems our lowball bid is now referenced on Kenny’s page in the Oracle - Wiki 😀

A few of us could no doubt talk about how much we've seen of this player or that, @Leyther_Matt in particular when it comes to Scotland, FWIW I enjoy watching Sportscene on iPlayer and put Dalby up as one to consider last season.

Comparing Kenny's assets favourably against Burstow's is a bit unfair on the latter, in my view. Burstow has played over 50 games in the Championship and a couple in the Premier League, half of those out of position for a manager at Hull who didn't know what to do with him. Likewise, Dalby showed in a full season in the SPL he can finish.

At the very least, if we get the service right, those two could replace the goals McAtee and Collins scored last season. Then it's about us looking like we have ironed out the defensive issues that caused us to let 70 in. That, for me, is as big an issue as whether we need another striker. We are still conceding the same types of goals to the same types of teams

Bamford available?

He needs putting out to seed, a few years ago maybe, but he is sick note of the highest order now

For the love of God, would you please shut the fuck up about Kenny.

It's that aussie wonder kid at st.mirren mark ii

Surely though, if Kenny was coming here wouldn’t it have been done by now? I can’t believe that Fergal has been sitting with his fingers crossed by the phone waiting for a call from Celtic so for me that one’s surely dead. Is the delay in signings due to outgoers not fixing up deals because we must be close the the squad limit now and it would mean de-registering players to fit signings in? Whatever, I think Mondays going to be one of the busiest window closures we’ve had for years.

I don’t think many are desperate to see Kenny. Reading between the lines it appears we may be hanging on as we appear to have acted swiftly to sort out other positions and this one has been dragging on for a while without an outcome. Personally I’m inferring that this means we’re waiting to see but who really knows.

Whilst I like burstow and am willing to give Dalby a chance, FWIW on paper up to this point I don’t really see either being good enough over the season and expected better pedigree signings for that position I.e players with previous goalscoring records at this level. Kenny is another unknown

If this Kenny does come in he best hit the ground running with the amount of hype about him.

Taylor,  ACD,  Cissoko , Burstow and Erhahon  all came in without anyone having a clue  we was interested in them until they were sat scarf around them having their picture took.

Players we got linked with in the press Roughan, Ceesay, Nmai, Keane and the lad from Charlton  we moved on from or were not interested.

I think we will have moved on from Kenny and it will be another one who we have had no idea we were even chasing

That was more fans seeing a good player was available than press speculation

Apart from that it was spot on 😆

Individuals on here had actually posted about wanting us to go for him.

No press speculation on their behalf.

My point was more that apart from him, I doubt many, if any of us, were aware of the other chaps.

Erahon was a very very very late move on our part

Nobody knew it was happening

Impossible

It can't have been that late considering he was booked in at a hotel near here

he was on the verge, as much as you can be on the verge, of signing for Wigan so was already in the area
