Thing with McAtee is he thinks he’s better than what he is. Got a bit of a side to him which I think we needed last season but there’s no grounds for pointing the finger at others and swanning around giving it the big I am when you’re not delivering yourself.

I think a lot of our fanbase got tricked in to the hype too as we bought him from a championship side just going up in the the Prem. My old man says a lot that you would expect him to stand out because of where he came from.

however, the facts are, he never played a game for Luton. He had 1 decent season in L2 with Grimsby which led them to signing him. At the same time their promotions through the leagues commenced and he was farmed out. Had 1 ok season at Barnsley similar to what he’s delivered for us up to now so you could argue he’s an ok L1 but more suited to L2 player.

so while he may have rejected Oldham, that’s probably his level

I think the bit about hype is spot on. If you look at his record, 11 goals last year is about as good as it gets. But he was pitched as being someone who's ceiling was much higher and we spent a million quid on him.

He's a perfectly average League One player, never been anything more.

Fucking happy clapper

Going to take the next  window to sort evatts back line out and get them shipped out it’s our Achilles heal this season

We have 5 defenders out of contract next summer. Assuming Conway gets a new contract so that will then be 4, the problem sorts itself out naturally then.

I'd think for anyone to come in we'd need 1 or 2 to go out.

One of a number of Evatt signings that were supposedly going to have us Championship ready but whose ceiling is most definitely L1.

You may be right. We've not seen much of Richard Taylor yet and he may help. Conway is doing well. We also have better holding midfielders. However..our central defenders are reasonable League 1 standard and no better.

..........there's only so much SS can do in one transfer window.

Plenty of IEs signings struggled with making us L1 ready never mind the division above.

If we can move a few out in Jan will save some money rather than letting them walk on a free .
Though we have seen the best of santos is pace when he was at is best and Ariel ability is being missed

What? He’s been backed to the hilt and signed 12 so far plus two more incoming - 14 in total I.e. a team plus spares.

if you’re saying that the problem is the players he inherited- players who have got us close to promotion in recent years by the way - then you have to ask WTF has he been buying and why hasn’t he used that money to get upgrades in the positions you think he should have?

You are either saying his recruitment has been crap or his judgement has been crap. Which is it?

It's not just about upgrades but also changing our approach and signing players to suit

We now play with wingers but previously we didn't have any, and we can't really sign just two and hope they both stay fit and perform for the whole season, so we have to sign a minimum of four

We also had no holding midfielders whatsoever, meaning we had to realistically sign at least two

I'm pulling my hair out over the fact we haven't signed a proper centre-half but given we now only start with two and have at least four, five if we count Taylor, under contract already perhaps that's where we've had to gamble and go with what we've got

There are some pretty rose tinted glasses regarding the team Evatt was putting out and how it was performing in his last few months. We were 9th after his final game. The team was in rapid decline. IE talked about the dark cloud over the club and not knowing how to lift it.
The club got a temporary boost thanks to the impact of Jules and a couple of others, this carried into SS first few games but the rot was deeper. Plenty of stories about players not training properly in IEs last few months. That type of attitude stinks and SS realised wholesale changes were needed. Seems a few players did not like the home truths and sulked and our injury list magically got bigger.
We are now rebuilding, the style is different, the results are incredibly frustrating and god knows how long it will take.
Options are to unconditionally back the manager OR back with him with cautious optimism OR do not back him but hope to be proved wrong OR do not back him and hope to be proved right.
We seem to have a surprising number of fans across social media in the last group.

The first few games with half a squad of his own players seems to early to judge him for me. So I am in the ‘cautious optimism’ group.

IE has gone so comparisons to him or his time here are daft. IE had a massively positive impact on the club overall but it was going badly wrong at the end on and off the pitch. Suppose if he gets another job in football we will see what he has learned.

Totally agree that Evatt is history so why do folk keep dragging him up to use as a poor excuse for Schumacher’s poor results? If we don’t start winning soon they’ll be blaming Sammy Lee next 😀

5 of Saturday's starting 11 were Evatt's signings.

For most of the players we've had in the past 6 or 7 years, we are the biggest ticket, the most eyeballs on, the most lucrative contract they'll ever have got or will get in their careers. Unless it's a) end of contract or b) a unicorn offer from Watford to go home on good money and be third choice keeper, why would they want to be forced out of their employment here?

You can't just expect Schumacher to come in with a magic wand and change the whole team in his fashion over one summer. You also can't expect Sharon and the board to simply let these players all go at a huge transfer loss or pay them to fuck off.

Don't get me wrong, they've all had a good go changing it afresh over the summer. But it's foolish to expect everything to just click into place.

It was pretty much universally agreed that this was a hard set of fixtures to start with. And one defensive lapse a game aside, a couple of sloppy decisions in front of goal here and there with an attacking force who hadn't met each other before June, we've been utterly dominant. And that's WITHOUT the negative, frightened tippy tap we got served up,  and desperately wanted to change, post-Oxford.

It's coming. Be reyt.

Because of people who keep harping on about the past how good it was, no it was not it was turgid rotan to the core and now you think that in one transfer window all should be well

It wont be right until this time next season when he can finally get the squad he wants

Give the bloke a chance......Even you must see  green shoots with your tinted glasses

Saying something about the left wing replacements that I'm a bit disappointed he's gone. Would have quite liked to have seen him have a go on the left and just fire crosses in all match.

His level.

He wasn't good enough

Good luck to him but it's the right decision
