In essence Ang was right on this issue. It was a horrible thing they did. Whether it was absolutely necessary to sack them all to save the business who knows- the government at the time were extremely critical and challenged them. All that said, being in opposition is clearly very different to being in government; and language needs to be more considered. Quote
Site Supporter Spider Posted October 11 Site Supporter Posted October 11 P&O who sacked 800 British workers? That P&O? Some name calling doesn’t stop people making money, I suspect it’s a convenient excuse. Anyhoo https://news.sky.com/story/uk-economy-grew-by-0-2-in-august-official-figures-show-13231735 Quote

Maybe this government shouldn’t have invited them to the summit then but they did. Ang. and Haigh have put paid to that. Quote

Were the government right in inviting them or is Rayner right in mouthing off with a lisp? Either way, it’s not a good look and another cock up. Rayner is slowly being marginalised. Unfortunately for Starmer, she won’t be moved on as easily as Gray. Quote

Article says they are delaying announcement not cancelling the investment. Are we meant to get angry about the Govt calling out bad practice by corporates ? As I say what is the cut off ? How much do you have to be investing for the Govt to turn a blind eye ? Quote
Members Lt. Aldo Raine Posted October 11 Members Posted October 11 Rayner isn't slowly being marginalised, she's rapidly been marginalised She has a propensity to put her foot in it, but DP World haven't pulled their investment because of what she's said Quote
Site Supporter Cheese Posted October 11 Site Supporter Posted October 11 What has she even said? Sacking British workers and hiring cheap foreign labour to replace them is bad? Quote

Members Lt. Aldo Raine Posted October 11 Members Posted October 11 Of the two, it's probably Haigh who went a bit too far by suggesting people should boycott P&O It's not a great thing to say when your own Government is courting their investment, and in that respect she and some of her colleagues would do well to recognise the need to be a tad more diplomatic now they're no longer in opposition But regardless, the investment has been paused because of the incoming change to employment law Quote

If I were in charge of a company looking for an excuse to pull investment because I didn't want to be forced by law to pay staff a living wage from December, I'd probably pin the blame on what Rayner and Haigh said as well It wouldn't be true, though Quote
