There’s a tiny tiny section of the world where a load of millionaires and billionaires get together to try and shape the world for their own gain and some people lap it up and cheer and holler at them. People like Musk don’t want what is best for you. They want you to work 20hrs a day for them. They want you to have nothing. They want the world to burn so you can scrap for food and work even harder for those scraps. They want the world to be run by the fewest people as possible so they can own everything. why can’t people say them for what they are? You're a fucking loon matey. This 'load' you speak of. You should probably analyse how many people they employ and how many people are employed in support companies for their businesses. The only one working 20 hours a day is Musk himself. That's how you get there. You should look up the works of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov. You will probably find it riveting. Sattelites, Communication, Social Media. He’s heading up a government department which I’m sure will end up removing monopoly laws and such. Guest Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Lack of economic literacy is all around. ‘Reeves has to deliver a credible short term growth plan’. Sure. But why? To bring gilts down? Any credible short term growth plan relies on extra borrowing (one way or t’other) which is going to drive gilts higher. Whether you are economically to the right or the centre or the left your plan will increase the cost of borrowing. Spoke to my friend who is a Tory voting economics professor yesterday who said that there is nothing that can be done nor should be done. That nothing Labour have or haven’t done could change the gilt position or indeed caused it. But that their plans relied on unrealistic or unlikely global events and shifts that haven’t happened and now they are in a mess. But that they should right now do nothing and ride out the markets to see where it ends up. Two schools of thought. One that gilts will go as high as 6% before dropping back to 4 ish. Which would be good for Reeves and she’d be vindicated in waiting if she does that. The other that borrowing costs have globally readjusted now following Covid and the post covid economic boom period to sit where they historically tend to between 4.5-5.5% and they won’t be budging for a while until global economic conditions change. In that case it would be much worse but still wouldn’t make any sense to do anything now. Quote

Guest Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 More or less the exact carbon copy of a conversation I had yesterday with a Tory economist. In the woke, left leaning spectator…. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-westminster-is-wrong-about-gilt-yields/ In short we are all doomed but it’s not any individual governments fault nor is there any magic wand any new government could wave. "Capitalism contains the seeds of it's own destruction". What happened to communism then Karl? If the mob of billionaires and the richest 1% hoovering up the vast bulk of the worlds wealth and assets which has happened continuously since the 70’s was such a good thing….why is inequality up and why are people so unhappy? If redistributive wealth brought all the outcomes you claim - the world would not be where it is. If it’s so good why have wages been depressed for well over a decade? Why hasn’t Musk et al been able to match inflation? Late stage capitalism is the cause even if you refuse to accept it. And communism is no more an answer than letting the inmates run the asylum. Musk and global investors simply demand to see graphs go up. They are happy to employ less people. It’s not like we’ve not seen a mass wave of layoffs in the USA across the tech industry. But not because they started to make losses. No. Because profits started rising a bit less quickly. So what do they do? Get rid of staff and freeze wages. The idea that free enterprise unfettered market decisions has delivered anything is for the birds. And people like Musk fear governments trying in the future to do something about it. But he’s planning to sack a lot of people in the public sector. Millions of jobs to go. And those are just working class Americans. He won’t be employing them at Tesla either. As he’s planning to sack a load there too. And when the private sector need it they are suddenly very keen for government investment. Including musk. Why can’t he run a successful business on his own? Why did the banks who spent decades ripping folk off need to be bailed out? If we really want free market economics then governments should never ever subsidise the private sector. We shouldn’t subsidise train firms. Or energy. Let them charge whatever costs their greed dictates. And let people pay it. That is the ultimate conundrum. Edited January 14, 2025 by bwfcfan5 Quote
