There's a decent book on it if you can be arsed called Atomic Habits. Was recently peddled by Paddy McGuiness and he puts a lot of his recent fitness success down to habits and a lot of stiff that features in the book. There was a decent piece in I think the Telegraph the other day I'll find it. Paddy went in hard on the 75 plan. But since then just sticks to an habitual routine plan. I'm the world's worst for it. Once I'm off the rails I'm off. All about starting the day with those habits bang on the money and rest follows. My mate has mentioned that book to me, I will have to have a look. Nice one 👍 Quote
Traf Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Woke up this morning, ready for it. Sun was shining, so a protein shake then an hour's walk. Did an hour in the garden afterwards, all good. However, I've just had 3 cans and a pizza for lunch. Quote

I got out this morning and need to remember how much better I feel for having done it, small sense of pride but its there. Anyway, im putting it on here in an attempt to sort of say it out loud to people that im doing it so I have to keep up with it then. Let's see if this works. 😁 Just make it part of the day - if not morning then lunchtime if you can. After work and i can never be bothered. Had a slight knee niggle again but been using the eliptical in the gym to keep ticking over for the last five days. Anyway, i try and aim for a least 5 times a week as part of just what you do - somedays its a quick 30 mins on the treadmill, others a nice 10km when ive got more time. Quote

Yeah, I've tried in the evening or when I get home from work. It just doesn't seem to work for me. Feels alot harder somehow. It's defo first thing in the morning for me, sets me up feeling like im smashing the day already, which is nice. Just couldn't get going this week up til this morning. Cheers Quote

It should be enjoyable or else you'll do it for a few weeks and then you'll find excuses not to do it. Quote

Can I just point out, im not aiming for a body like that. I need to be realistic 😂 dropping a couple of stone is my first aim and then we'll see from there. Already managed about half a stone since new year. Anyway, got out again this morning. Quote

Aye was meant to follow up with this is obviously on the extreme side of things. Especially written by a millionaire with all the time in the world. But it was more about the habits side. Im a fucker for it. Working for myself, its essential I get up at the same time every day and prep my food etc. Gym and run same days etc. If I fall off one day it's a like a dominoe effect, especially in the darkest of winters. 49 minutes ago, Zico said: no doubt having a home gym helps and being able to knock booze on the head Aye and there's not a chance in hell he's not at least been on TRT or a cycle of some sorts. Good on him like, should be less of a taboo. Quote

If I’m working from home I’ll try to find time in the morning for 1K swim or a good 30 mins fast walk. deeane Koontz Posted Wednesday at 13:47 Posted Wednesday at 13:47 Got cocky and didn't stretch properly before a run yesterday as I'd manage to avoid injury for a bit. My achilles appears to have rewarded me for said complacency. Felt it when I was running but decided to carry on like a nob. Quote

I just got some steppers insoles for my work boots. Brilliant tackle. Gonna take them on my marathon and if my toe cramp or plantar fajita starts I'm gonna whack em in. Quote

Nah mate, just some cheap Addidas trainers that are more like slipper these days with less grip too. Any recommendations? Tried some generic sport insoles for a bit a few year back but they seemed to give me more problems when running lol Quote
gonzo Posted Wednesday at 14:48 Author Posted Wednesday at 14:48 Deffo get some proper trainers mate and some proper socks too. Total game changer. I'm on Ascics Gel Pulse or summet. Cost about £130 and have been great so far. Just struggle with toe cramp sometimes which could mean they might be slightly too narrow for me. But they've got me to this point so I'm happy enough for the price. Great for starting out etc. If I'm gonna carry this on I'll go a bit heavier on the price and go for some Hokas or even Carbon jobbys. Quote

Get a proper fit done. There is such variation in trainers and it really can mess you up if you have the wrong size / fit. They also do good discounts etc. Mrs E has some insoles as she’s in between supporter and neutral. They have been great but we wouldn’t have know anything without some guidance the video showing us the difference. also this is great for stretching to stop any back pain https://youtu.be/4BOTvaRaDjI?si=6BuHc1Wkwk3SFhLh I am still goosed from Sundays marathon, hopefully back fully fit next week ready for London. It came from hours of walking rather than running. Tried everything but at the end of the day, it came down to footwear. Tried Hoka but for me, it was the Sketchers (sorry) arch fit that sorted my problem out. I now have two pairs of trainers (one pair running shoes) and a pair of walking boots. I also use the steppers insoles for my normal shoes. Edit. Forgot to mention. I used to run about 20 miles a week in my thirties in normal trainers that I played football in. Buggered my left knee that needed an operation and stopped my running. Get the right trainers.👍 Edited Thursday at 09:30 by BobyBrno Quote
