Benny The Ball Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Anyone familiar with the old Haslingden FC / Stand Athletic FC football ground ? Seen in the local paper its for sale - only 6 miles or so north of Bury https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/18170984.stand-athletics-former-football-ground-goes-sale/ Apparently its down by the sewage treatment centre Looks ideal for their phoenix club - architecturally similar to Gigg Lane Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 (edited) Suitable for housing- nice site, but look at the proximity to the river. Hope they build the houses up high, with flood defences. Just been told that it's been for sale for some time but they're struggling to get shut because of the flood risk- planning etc. Edited January 20, 2020 by Tonge moor green jacket Quote
Biggish Dave Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I walk the dog down there quite often, thought it was rife for housing. Needs some work doing on it to get everything up to scratch Quote

If they were moving so far out of town then they might as well just share with Rammy. It would take years for a phoenix club to raise enough cash for a site like that anyway, as FC United are still finding out. Quote

RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 It looks better than Springfield Park as it is. 😁 Quote
tomski Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Bury don’t have enough fans to survive going that far out Quote

Rudy Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Probably the furthest most of the fans would have been Quote
Duck Egg Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 It would make more sense for them to share with Rammy or Radcliffe Borough with the aim to get back to Giggle Lane if the chance arises. There's a few over sentimental numpties who wont consider playing anywhere else. Some of these berks were shouting for a new ground at Pilsworth a few years ago when they were claiming to be, ahem, 'heading for the championship'. Quote

In fairness I kind of see where they’re coming from, as the ground is pretty much the only connection any phoenix will have with the original club. The different factions that are appearing and uncertainty over what (and where) the future holds is exactly what I feared would happen if we had gone under. Quote

They cant have both. Bury FC to all intents and purposes no longer exists. Get a team sorted to represent the town first. A permanent ground can follow later. Not that I give a feck any longer - reading some of them arguing for us to be kicked out of the league, relishing our every defeat - feck em. Tin pot tossers Quote

It's hard to keep a club going when there's not enough money coming in from tickets when there's no none match day income. Quote
Carlos Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Radders is a cow field, they already play academy games there. Not a chance in hell it'd take more games. Rammy is a shit pitch too. Teams would be signing their own death warrants. Quote

Matt Lofthouse Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Didn’t realise they were still a club, thought they had gone. Quote
Johnnyrotten Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Its a strange situation. If the club still exists and needs to apply for entry to a league, its got to be more straight forward than a so-called Phoenix club trying to get accepted. Obviously there's the small matter of sorting out which ground they use. Makes our situation seem straight forward, but I wish them good luck. Quote

Duck Egg Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 There's two factions and they're both falling out with each other. 1 group is hoping a consortium can buy out Dale and take over the existing club. The other are trying to set up a Phoenix club to step in once the original club is finally wound up. Whatever the outcome, Bury FC or AFC Bury wont be starting any higher than the North West Counties. Quote
DazBob Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I hope if/when they do restart they don't have to go as low down as to be forced to play the likes of Atherton Collieries. Quote

Although retaining the FA registration will come in handy for taking part in the FA competitions (new clubs can't enter in their first year of existence), there isn't much difference from a league point of view as they no longer hold membership of a league. Johnnyrotten Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Quote Didn't realise that about new clubs unable to enter FA competitions in their first year, good knowledge! Although that will be least of their concerns in the early days. Quote
