They were clearly the better team for the entire 1st half, and for nearly every part of the 2nd half we couldnt get any real possession, but spent ages defending. If they didnt create any chances, they had 2 cleared off the line in 1st half when we all expected a goal, and there were other chances in both halves when Matthews was under pressure, their keeper wasnt under pressure once aside from the goal. We had 2 Murphy headers and a shot from Politic a foot or 2 wide, absolutely nothing else. Dodo had a free header six yards out just before we scored. Why we still persist with that to Murphy is beyond me. Everything Daryl Murphy does that is good comes from neat slick stuff on the floor, or set pieces. Backing in to a lump of a centre half, he might win one ball in 10.

Nsiala is calmer and better on the ball than both, and wins more headers. His tackle preceding the goal was powder puff, you'd expect a Wheater or Hobbs to go right through the man there. But I still think he's our best current available C/B, on another day that failed tackle doesnt result in a goal and nobody remembers it. Brockbank didnt come on because Lowe is far better at right back, that's not a difficult choice. I would personally have taken Murphy off to leave Lowe in midfield, but that doesnt disguise the fact that Brockbank isnt 1st team material. Agree on O'Grady, always seems to improve us, and never gets to play his true position (centre forward). Ditto Politic, Darcy, Dodoo and yes even Buckley, all played out of position along with Lowe. Really wierd team selections, again.

Hill played him out of position to shoe horn Murphy into central midfield, and paid the price. And Darcy is allowed a poor game, he's a kid and in the next 5 years he's guaranteed to have more good games than bad, just stick with him and play him either centre mid or behind the striker(s), nowhere else. ErnestTurnip
At one point I thought he'd gone 3 up top with Murphy D on the right, Doodoo in the middle, and Politic on the left and was wondering if we were about to witness a tactical masterclass. We weren't.

ianofcleveleys
As grim a spectacle as I can remember for many a year, even with all the dark days we've had in the past few years KH doesn't need any more than a 23 man squad, he'd no idea what to do with the 18 he had at his disposal last night, which were a pretty strong lot compared to recent weeks Why tear up the formation from Portsmouth game, where we played some good stuff at times against a far better side? Darcy completely wasted out on right, not his fault he ended up being anonymous. Three in middle were too similar, Hamilton could have been hooked at half time to get Dodo on in his normal place and move Darcy back to where he's most effective, flitting around behind the striker. Then, when he makes his change, he puts Dodo down middle with Murphy and plays into their hands by lumping it up to them. Dodo no impact either as a result and virtually zero atacks down our right, an area where we've been strong. Hamilton is a big lumbering League 2 level Phil Jones unfortunately, thumps the ball like a mule but first touch was awful last night and just kept blundering around giving it away or getting in the way We looked like strangers with no plan, shape or structure, and a pretty disappointing lack of urgency considering the weekend off we'd had. Been as patient as anyone with KH up to now but that set of players should have had enough to get past an outfit as poor as them who hadn't scored since Boxing Day. As has been said, last night looked like we were going backwards, cant keep a clean sheet against anybody, and, in that game, created virtually nothing in 98 minutes. Politic, by the way, needs to be prepared to play people in who are in better positions or be back on the bench. Yet again last night could have fed Darcy who was wide open but opted to shoot. Did similar in last game when Darcy was waiting in a much better place
Site Supporter desperado Posted January 29, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted January 29, 2020 Going to go against the majority opinion here. My overriding emotion after last nights game with KH, is not anger, rejection, confusion it’s one of empathy. The situation last night was desperate. Not just for him either. For us enduring at best a disjointed performance in the freezing cold hail. For Buckley whose luck his hideous. For all the players who haven’t trained all week but put themselves out there. For those who weren’t available for same reasons. For the new players who aren’t able to gel yet in such a short time in difficult circumstances. For the young lads who are trying their hardest in a really tough environment. Not only is KH having to deal with all that on a night, but throw in an awful referee performance, frustration in the transfer market, changes in the boardroom and direction and a Bristol Rovers side who spent most of the first half throwing themselves on the floor. For such a desperate night and awful game I think everybody deserves a pat on the back for coming out with a draw.
