Those pesky Taliban lads

My cousin said everyone knew the gig at the beginning and he was surprised it’s taken this long, the freedom our troops brought to thousands of women and children justified his tours.

I was out for a meal last night with 3 lads who have been out there when we were younger. It was not a convo I wanted to bring up but know it hasn't been an easy transition to civilian life for some of them.

20 years down the drain must be a bit of a kick in the teeth!

Long but interesting article.  Claims of education facilities grossly exaggerated, well meaning US policies bound to flounder amongst a backward and corrupt society.  What a shit show

We keep on trying to impose our (flawed) western democracy onto other states, when will we ever learn?

Watching a film the other day "outpost". It's one of those that is based on events with a twist of dramatic license (not sure how much but I'd imagine its quite true to events as a few if the surving troops were involved on the making).

Three things that stood out

1) in the film, the afghan troops had no interest in doing their job and gave up/deserted at the first sign of trouble which led to the event in the film. This has been reflected in the last few days in reality. The taliban marched into places pretty much unopposed.

2) the locals were just not to he trusted, they simply wanted the western money.

3) America simply didn't learn. The outpost was basically a fortified base surrounded on all sides by steep mountains. Terrible place for a military base and clearly a shite idea. If it hadn't been verified by veterans I'd have thought that was dramatic license.

A lot of people who have for the last 15 years had a pop at the governments of the west for sending our soldiers to die there, are now the same “experts” who say we’ve left the afghans to fend for themselves.

Literally a no win situation.

Save the cash, save the soldiers and let the afghans sort themselves out in the same way we have to.

Its a boost to the Scottish economy as heroin will now be more affordable thus feeling up cash for beleaguered shopkeepers in inner city Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Trrrists gonna trrrize regardless

Extend that campaign backed by Miami to bring over the interpreters to bring over everyone, save for the Taliban and the shithouse cowards...

All these unpicked crops.

They'd earn their keep.

Whack up more greenhouses in the south and we could use their expertise to grow opium poppies.

We could become self-sufficient in smack production. Laudanum could be once again bought over the counter. Everyone could have the odd treat of a whistle and flute of brown at reasonable prices.

When all the good ones are here, carpet bomb the place.

I should be a fucking General, me.

And if Laudanum was freely available, think of the savings the working parents would make regarding childcare. A small spoonful then put them to gouch out in bed, then 'McCann' off to work.

They'd probably just be coming down after nine hours or so...ample time to get home for a toot for yourself.

2400 US forces

460 UK forces

160 Canadian

These are included in the 3500 Overall "coalition" fatalities across another 20 odd countries, Let someone else take over.. see how they fare..

You're not wrong.

Personally I was dead against 'us' going in.  It struck me then and still does, that the US wanted to be seen to be doing something to respond to 9/11.  They could hardly attack Saudi or Egypt, where the bulk of the attackers and funds came from.

Once they and the rest of the 'willing coalition' were stuck in the mire, making allies and funding all sorts of despicable folk, alienating parts of the population that they'd gone to help, it was shit or bust. Stay involved for another generation at least or pull out defeated and embarrassed.

If only there had been some sort of historical precedents that the US and the allies could have learned from, to avoid getting involved in the first place.

These taliban lads must be bumders

No titty Tuesday down the local multi Mart, best part about working in a city

No quick perv on the lasses jogging up Abu Hamza way

Not seeing a birds thong through her cheap primark leggings

No seeing fatima falling out of her top down the local King Osama after karaoke

Taliban? Buncha woofters

The footage of the US airforce plane taking off is simply unbelievable

It looks like an Indian train with about 100 blokes all clinging on.

Then 3 of them fall to their deaths after it takes off.

Unreal.

All fellas too. Glad to see they are leaving their women and children to fend for themselves.
