matty2094 Posted September 2, 2023 Author Posted September 2, 2023 Evening all 🍻 PREMATCH Quote I hope they sell Dion Charles before the weekend, not because I feel he’s an outstanding player but because the way he plays is still something that causes us problems in that he presses very aggressively and causes defenders to make mistakes - something we know that is problematic for us. He’s a flat-track bully at this level. A win would be fantastic, I’d be happy with a draw… a loss after the Peterborough game wouldn’t be the end of the world. I’m going to heavily back the Bolton win, hope to lose the money and watch another fan base lose their s*** after another Waghorn masterclass. Quote As I said, for me, he looks like a lower league footballer when he’s on the ball outside the box so it’s not that he’s this outstanding footballer. It’s his work off the ball and inside the box that makes him a (really) good player at this level and his work off the ball makes him a big threat to this Derby team in particular. Be a lot easier this year as the majority of home fans will have left by half time when we are 4 - 1 up again. Quote Bolton have now lost their previous two home games in an emphatic matter having crashed out of the cup to Middlesborough tonight. I fancy us. Quote I wonder if Bolton fans are wondering how good they are at this point? They beat Lincoln, Barrow, Cheltenham, Fleetwood. Lost to Middlesbrough, Wigan and drew with Burton. Wigan 4-0 loss will be concerning for their fans, no win in three and Derby on back of back-to-back away wins coming into town. A good test for both teams. For what it’s worth, I still think Bolton are the team to beat but interesting little wobble after that heavy defeat to Wigan where they were still statistically the better team. Quote NGL I fancy we'll lose this one. Just feel it in my bones. Quote Bolton have the most possession and most shots in the league - 64.3% possession and 15.8 shots a game. We have 47.5% possession and 13.2 shots a game. Bolton, for me, have very good control of football games and can create opportunities. There is definitely a 'soft underbelly' which was a term thrown around for us under McClaren but I think over the season they will have the most possession, create the most chances and ultimately starve the opposition enough to have one of the best defensive records in the league. I'd be confident as a Bolton fan of a top two finish. Quote Bolton 2 Derby 2 Frgs Hourihane Quote Pinched from the Bolton forum. I don't think Derby are anything special so get the first goal and set the game up nicely. …………………I’m sure I read the same cunning plan last week on the Posh forum.🐏😂 Quote I'm not keen on the folk in Bolton, one of the street vendors wanted 3 quid for a burger back in the 90's. Put me right off. We lost that day too, can't remember the score. 3 points today will be justice well served and make the journey home much better. Quote Hope I'm wrong but fear abit for us today. Looks like a very slow and old team. FIRST HALF Quote Bolton look unreal Quote Tough start so far. Quote Have we made a pass yet. Quote It’s looking like one of those days… one of those matches. We are going have to scrap to get something from this . COYR Quote Elder went in with two feet there, lucky he didn't make contact. Would have been a straight red. Quote Here we go - Elder talked to for going in aggressively, following three equally aggressive challenges from Bolton players in the build up. Quote This has been quite a poor start again from players who should be experienced enough not to let an occasion or a good opponent throw them off their game. Chasing shadows. No composure as with the first 20 minutes against posh. Let’s hope for a similar crazy last 20 of the first half. Quote Washington bundled over from behind defender pins him down with a knee in the back Ref says play on Quote Bolton have had much the better of it so far, they’re passing and moving well, had a couple of good chances with one saved well by Wildsmith and another hitting the bar, BUT….it’s still 0-0 and there’s a little more composure from us the last few mins. Quote These are just miles better than us Quote If our last away games are anything to go by…. But probably not 😂 I’d settle for a battling point or a sh*thoused win Quote Derby take longer to get going than my first car. Quote Header by Nelson from the corner. Looked like a clear handball. No Penalty. Ref gives us another corner. Quote Big shout for handball. Guess what? Not given!!!! Is that 7 or 8 denied? Quote 100% a handball. Are these officials even watching the game? Quote Penalty given after we'd scored ..... Quote Disallowed goal to give a penalty. State of this ref. Quote Stopped a goal and given us a penalty?! Ref’s an amateur but who cares, Hourihane scores the pen!!! Quote Wow the refs had a stinker there should've carried on play and a goal, let's hope we score the pen Quote Nelson’s header blocked by a Bolton hand. Ref waves it away We put the ball in the net from a corner. Ref pulls it back for a peno. luckily we score the peno. But it’s clear this ref is an utter joker Quote What an absolute shambles the refereeing in this division is. Quote They should be down to 10 men with that handball Quote Luckily these balance themselves out over a season. For every penalty we don't get given, the opposition get a soft one against us. Quote Nelson header from a Hourihane corner right above the keeper who palms it over, foul given as Nelson may have used a bit of physical exertion to get an advantage Quote Ref was always going to give that peno whether Smith touched it or not Quote 4 hours ago, DavesaRam said: Penno to Bolton. Smith is furious. Was deffo a pen tbf. Quote Did well from A set piece to win the pen and there’s been some good defending in our own box but this performance again has been crap. Papered over by that absolutely bonkers spell against posh. We can’t string any passes together. Strikers are getting no service from open play. Put Radcliffe and Barkhuizen on for Smith and Washington and play 433 ffs. This asymmetrical 352/4231 dependent on who has the ball is producing turgid football. matty2094 Posted September 2, 2023 Author Posted September 2, 2023 (edited) HALF TIME Quote How are other managers/coaches able to get teams at the same level as us playing football so much better than us? This squad is being held back. They’re good enough to pass and move. Instead we’re forced to watch Keeper to CB, CB to FB, FB hoofed up the channel Quote So tough to come to places like Bolton with 6 or 7 players out, and all of those players being the younger more athletic players. Snap your hand off at a draw from here. Quote Oh and watch this ref, he’s aching to give Bolton an advantage Quote I know people will jump on the negativity but I’m just so jealous of those teams who are set up to quickly move the ball across the floor. Instead we get kick and rush. 31% possession, only shot on target is the penalty and their keeper hasn’t had to make a save. I wasn’t expecting us to win today, or even draw but games shouldn’t feel this one sided against us in the third division. Quote Very hard to see, but with refs this dangerous it wasn’t the wisest of actions. Although the alternative was to let the guy have a free shot. Quote I'm not jumping on it. I'm 100% with you. Even when we get a result playing like this I'm a bit disappointed. It's the difference between sleeping with a woman, or knocking one out yourself. Yeah the end result is the same, but can you really say you had a good time? SECOND HALF Quote 3 amazing stops in a row by Wildsmith. One tackle outside the area followed by two saves. Now Wildsmith sent off. Missed what happened there! Quote Yep Ref was begging to give them something there Quote Oh great. Wildsmith sent off after trying to tidy up the same mess he always gets left with. Was it handball? Who cares. This is absolute toss. Quote Referee took a good 40 seconds to make a decision then, he didn’t know it Quote Just poured a pint ready for the second half and Wildsmith has been sent off 😞 Quote Bradley b****** drop. Not a red, hit his chest , left arm was back . Game over . The refs and linos are horrific. Quote This ref has just made a guess for every big decision this game. Quote Ref is a joke, never a handball, gave them multiple attempts of advantage & still pulled it back for a freekick.too Quote A clear yellow for their lump of a centre half not given. Handy when you have 1 up front . Not given Quote Ref wasn’t sure. Went over to lino. Lino said handball. If it was handball, then why didn’t he flag? Quote How can they have 2 shots at a half open goal during their 'advantage' then still get a freekick after? Ref clearly wanted them to score Quote Absolutely a clear red. As clear a handball as you'll see all season. Oh, you were talking about Wildsmith. I thought you meant when their defender made the worldie save in their box. Quote Hard to see from our camera angle. But Wildsmith was absolutely adamant that the ball hit his chest. Perhaps if the ball had hot his chest there would be a red welt across his chest. So he should have lifted his shirt front to show the ref - who would book him for removing his shirt! Quote If they’d have scored then would wildsmith still get sent off?!?? Quote Hard to tell for sure. Felt like the ref was desperate to give it. He let them play on until they missed and then pulled it back. Quote Wildsmith is also a massive poohouse! Impossible to say with any certainty but I’d say it looked more like a handball than a chest. Quote How is that not a pen ffs Quote That’s a clear penalty Quote Ref is pathetically bad Quote Bradley hauled down in the box. NOT GIVEN. Thst’s 9 now. Quote I can't tell either (from a low-quality Twitter video), but he seems to throw his arms towards the ball like he was diving for a save. So he hasn't really helped himself, even if it did hit his chest. Quote Bradley hauled to the floor in the Bolton area. Ref waves it away AGAIN!!!!!!! Hes determined to give them every advantage possible Quote You see the pens he's already given, then you see that... that was more clear cut and he just waves it away! 😠 Then Santos goes and dives and doesn't even get booked! Joke of a ref! Quote That is appaling Quote This ref is an actual moron Quote We've not been good but we've been royally shafted here. Quote Ref has been toss, but we've been worse. It's not the ref who's stopped us being able to put two passes together. It's not the ref who's set us up with 10 men in our own box. AND ANOTHER CLEAR EFFING PUSH IN THE BOX FUCJDHSHGAHAHA OFF Quote The ref looks delighted with that! Quote Another pen shout as NML is bundled over in the area, not given 🤦🏻♂️ Quote Unbelievable. Every young player we get gets injured. Penalty. Red card for nothing. Own goal. When does the luck ever change? Quote I thought that......looked like he smiled as he walked past them celebrating Quote 3 fouls in a row on Fozzy - Fozzy gets booked, but the offender wasn’t Quote I’m already fed up with football. Quote Put some pace on up top against the lump on a yellow. be 3-1 soon . May as well burn out than fade away. Quote Generally you get what you deserve out of a game. We have put little effort into ours today and the score says it all. Quote Fifteen shots to four looks pretty one sided, rubbish ref or not. Quote Yep. We’ve barely laid a glove on them. I know things can change quickly, but based on today’s performance there’s zero chance we finish anywhere near Bolton in the table. Quote This is the worst football I've seen in 50 years of watching the Rams. A Sunday League manager would be better than this bobblehatted p****. Starting to really hate him Quote Another handball lol. Quote Handball? Quote Another handball in the area Ref waves it away AGAIN!!!!!!! Quote Handball? Absolutely was. Quote How many pens should that have been now? Four, five? Quote This is actually painful to watch Quote I’m all for critical comments, but aren’t we playing away against a probable top six side with 10 men? Quote I get that Warne is seemingly limited and there are growing concerns on that basis, but surely some of the circumstances around todays game in isolation should be considered? A changed lineup due to injury and transfer speculation. A nasty injury early on changing things further. Poor officiating. A red card early in the second half meaning we play pretty much half the match against one of the better sides in the division with 10 men. And yet for all the misery it’s not been a complete hammering on the scoreline. Quote Not thrilled about how we set up this game, Bolton are a side that like to control the ball and that’s fine, but we’ve really not done ourselves any favours in this game. The mistakes and naive football is synonymous with the Paul Warne experiment at Derby County. The more games we have like this, the more I yearn for the 0-0 draw against Shrewsbury where Cashin is making 140 passes under Rosenior. It was another extreme, but out of the two I at least like to watch our players on the ball. Quote Bolton have had 73% possession for this they have scored a penalty and Derby have scored an own goal. POST MATCH Quote It’s swings and roundabouts at the moment.Bolton couldn’t beat Burton last week and I bet their fans felt pretty similar. What we need is a bit of consistency. Quote I agree. At the moment we're paying to watch the other team play football each week. Quote Bolton have been really bad though. Even with 10 men they've been there for the taking at times. Quote I dont think the Bolton goalie has had a shot to save... Quote Good news guys. No more football for another 2 weeks. Quote Bolton away was always likely to be the toughest game of the season. Let’s just move on. Quote Before the Moaners cry the ref was awful Quote Hated that game. The ref, the injury, the pre-injuries, the performance, RamsTV, the lot. Quote For people giving out about Warne, Cashins head wasn’t in the game to start, Tommo injured in training, Rooney injured after 10 mins, A peno given agaisnt us outside the box, A penalty or two we should have had, not given, And generally awful Reffing I’d have taken 3 points from them two games before they started we move onto a nicer run of games now. Quote Yep, that’s fair, I’m not disputing that. I simply feel this game is more of an anomaly than others have been this season. We’ve lost 2-1 on the road to one of the better sides in the league, having played a chunk of the game with 10 men, the goals coming from two penalties and a deflected cross. If they were as good as we’re supposed to be poor it would have been 7-1. Got to dust ourselves down and go again. Quote We had some bad luck with the ref. We also have some not very good footballers out on the field. Bolton did not impress part from first 10 minutes. All to play for in this not so good league. Coyr! Quote To confirm we actually made it to 112 successful passes, from 200 attempted. You can flip a coin and more or less determine if a pass will be successful. Terrifying. Look through those two squads. Do we think their budget is much higher than ours if at all. I would be surprised if they have anyone on as much as our 2nd or 3rd highest earner. It would be nice if we started playing some football with these footballers. Sadly I think we could have hired their manager at the same time we hired ours. Quote Watching the replay of Smith bringing down their player for the pen. It’s outside the box, the Bolton player falls forward into the box which gives the ref the chance to give the peno he was desperate to give. We’ve been poor and that needs to be addressed by the manager. But this ref has been a disgrace. We lost to a non peno, a deflected cross and a very dubious red card, whilst playing poorly. The ref even tried his best to stiff us when we scored by not allowing it and giving a pen instead Quote Watching the replay, for their pen the foul was outside the box still a daft challenge from Smith. Sonny is having a mare with us, I was expecting so much more. Wildsmith unlucky I do think it was hand but it's just his natural reaction. We had a clear pen in the second not given. The footballs not great but PW isn't having much luck with injuries and individual errors. Quote Second best all first half, grew into it nearer the end and got a penalty after the ball was in the net, and after another stonewall penalty. Then they get a penalty, looked on the edge of the box but could’ve been inside. Second half starts, Bradley (who was playing really well) drops (another) clanger leading to Wildsmith to get desperate and get sent off (rightly or wrongly) but the referee took a good 40 seconds to make a decision and the linesman didn’t flag it. Then we’re away to Bolton who will be top 2 with 10 men. We defended really well, Nelson in particular but then they get a fluke own goal that loops in. We get pegged back and have a few chances near the end. Wasn’t a great watch but no where near worth the meltdown in my opinion Quote The best team in the league? The one that lost 4-0 in their last home game and scraped a draw against Burton last week? Give over. Quote Another game where dcfc hit the self destruct button. Smith doesn’t have to dive in to give a penalty away. Forsyth misses a simple clearance missing the ball altogether leads to Wildsmith coming out the box blocking it with a chest, then ref who had a good game in the 1st half, talks to his EFL assistant and they decide to red card Wildsmith. No Bolton players are even appealing for anything. Then we score an own goal with Vickers strolling in goal, so annoying, deserved a point at least. Bolton CD wipes our player in the box for a penalty and ref tells both players to pack it in. Our lack of luck or lack of control or lack of officials refereeing keeps repeating itself, when we looked to have found form again. Quote Don’t mind Bolton, another club screwed by the EFL. At least it want Wycombe I guess Quote Putting the ref aside. You can argue we only lost to a favourite for promotion away from home with a deflected goal, a dodgy red card and a peno that clearly wasn’t a peno. Quote I know this was always going to be one of our tougher games this season but I think the point many are trying to make is that that the gap between the two sides in terms of quality of football isn't really acceptable. Yes Bolton are good but why shouldn't we be playing like they do? It's not like they have a much stronger squad and piles of cash. Quote Poor reffing an own goal and 2 stupid mistakes in a minute cost us that, Bolton weren't anything special but we let them play like they were Quote On the bright side, I don’t see us going down 😊 Quote 29% possession! Did Paul tell our players that the match balls were supplied by Al Qaeda? Quote reading how it’s beyond belief Bolton are so much better than us ,, really ? Really ? They fiddle arsed around ,created hardly anything and only scored with the help of a gift wrapped homer ref giving a disputed penalty and a flukey deflection and that’s against a ten man derby who had at least two real pens not given , one of which could have seen they’re player sent off and countless odd decisions, won’t be rushing to swap my season ticket for one at Bolton so I can watch that superior football 😂😂😂, we wernt great and we lost 2/1 away at a promotion rival , it’s a long season in div 3 and it’s going to be even longer given that there’s some spewing so much bile to our manager win or lose Quote No Derby player seemed to complain that much about the sending off and, despite Smith’s protests, live (and from a different angle to the ref) their penalty looked the right decision. We had a few penalty appeals in the second half but, again without the benefit of seeing a replay, none of them looked like penalties to me. Quote At 0-0 Handball not given. Should have been. We then score but get a penalty instead. 0-1 (shades of Attwell?). They get a penalty. Was it one? I'll have to see it when the highlights get posted. It was definitely a foul but it looked just outside the area to me. Free kick, not a penalty and certainlynot 1-1. Wildsmith? Again the video didn't show where it hit him. Maybe we'll get a better view later? Big shout for handball in the 2nd half. The Bolton player was on the ground, leaning on his hands, the ball hits his right arm but as he's supporting his body, it's not a penalty. They're a good side. Had us working hard from the off. From about 25 minutes we got into it. Gave them too much time and space early doors but we defended well. Should have gone in a goal up at HT. After the sending off they took control again but needed an OG to take the lead. Fournah had a good game but we really missed Tommo's energy. Not how you want to go into a 2 week break but that's football. Edited September 2, 2023 by matty2094 Quote

Eddie Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Other than the pen they got, I think there’s possibly only 1 in the second half that was a potential handball from a corner that they could maybe be aggrieved at, and even that wasn’t obvious and would have hit him from a yard away during a bit of pinball. They cried about 3 other times where Rico was just miles stronger than their forward - if they genuinely think those ones will ever be given as a penalty then they’re deluded. Otherwise, our penalty seems to have been marginally outside of the box when you slow it down and freeze frame and check it again and again - good luck spotting that live (none of theirs complained), and their keeper has made a cracking save but was 10 yards out of his box. Obviously cumulatively it seems like the decisions went against them, but each one in isolation (other than ruling out a goal to give a penalty which was a bit mad) I think was the right / understandable call. Quote

Farnywhite Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Agree with the quote thought it at the time . It was strange the linesman didn’t flag for the keeper hand ball then the ref goes over to speak to the linesman and he gets sent off 🤷♂️ Quote
Traf Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 I sit directly in line with the edge of the box and I thought Sheehan was just outside when contact was made, but these things even themselves out. Quote
