matty2094 Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 Here we go. Posts taken fromĀ https://lofcforum.boards.net/ PREMATCH Quote First time doing this, so apologies if anyone feels I have hijacked their turn. Wrote some background to try and be helpful Ā Bolton Wanderers One of the faded romantic names of English football. Had a long spell in the Premiership in the early 2000s, memorably managed by Sam Allardici and then went crashing down the leagues until saved by new owner Sharon Brittan in 2019. Ian Evatt has been in charge since the 20/21 season who has improved their league position year on year, starting with promotion from League 2 and now has a non-voting stake in the club. Finished third last year and lost in the play-off final to Oxford while not managing a shot on target despite over 60% of the possession. Fans on one of their boards seem, understandably, very upset and bitter about this. Will be looking to go one better this season but may struggle against Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and the sombrero led Rotherham Town, although they are viewed as one of the favourites for promotion. Ā They play a version of 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 with wingbacks. Rumour has it that there may be some tactical tweaks this year. Last year, Bolton were the second top scorers in League one, behind Peterborough with 86 goals. The work was shared around as the top scorer was Dion Charlies with 14, followed by Victor Adoboyejo with 10 (the latter being an Orient old boy having played for us between 2014 and 2017). Top of the assists was Josh Sheehan with 12 who made team of the season, as did Josh Dacres-Cogley who operates as a right wing back. The rest of the goals were shared out amongst the team. Ā The defence is marshalled by 196cm (6 foot 4 in old money) Portuguese club captain Ricardo who has been at Bolton since the 2020-21 season. He was very good in 2022-23 being in the PFA team of the year and EFL team of the season, although less good last season. Ā They say you have to run as fast as you can to stay in the same place and Bolton are trying to run faster. So far, they have released two old forwards and an unwanted left back and picking up eight players, three in the last two days, including 35-year-old Scott Arfield from the MLS, who will probably be on less than 400k of those Yankee dollars. They have added their first continental European player is Szabolcs Schƶn, a left sided Hungarian wingback or winger who has had a few international games and an unsuccessful spell in the MLS. They have poached Klaidi Lolos from Crawley, after a very successful season in League 2 which included 13 goals and Jay Matete has joined on loan from Sunderland, primarily as a defensive midfielder. Chris Forino has joined from Wycombe, probably as a reserve centre back. Jordi Osei-Tutu has arrived from Bochum and the Bundesliga, via a sojourn in Greece, having started at Arsenal and making Bolton his seventh club in nine years. John McAtee has joined from Luton, having scored 12 for Barnsley last year on loan. All this adds at least depth to an already strong squad. They have an impressive majority owner in Sharon Brittan, who saved the club, supported by a consortium of Swiss commodity traders, who seem to have some personal connection. You can hear her views here, along with Ian Mather from Cambridge United:Ā www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/24320604.bolton-wanderers-chief-sharon-brittan-hits-premier-league/ Ā Bolton will be under some pressure to hit the ground running to make up for what was a very disappointing performance in the play-off final. If it doesnāt go well, Evatt could come under some pressure which will disrupt the approach the owner has put in place. Quote enjoyed reading that and I hadnāt realised how many free transfers Bolton had got in . Ā Canāt see us getting a result in this game . Quote Very good, but what is notlob? Think thatās gone straight over my head! Quote Notlob is Bolton spelt backwards . Quote I feel stupid now! Doh! Quote Come on you O's. If we win I'm buying the light blue shirt after the game. Lose and I won't. DURING Quote Didnāt take long. š”š”š” Quote Hemming should've done better with that. Was just thinking we were looking quite good too 𤷠Quote Iām not too sure he should have even got his shot away. Hardly challengedĀ Quote Strange goal to concede What happened? I'm down the other end Ā What should have happened is the goalie had to save that shot Quote Early days but we look lacking up front and not very creative in the middle. But some poor tackles by us. Bolton look a decent side. We need to play better. Can only get better. Quote Bolton nicking the ball off is to easily Quote Clucking bell, what are we doing. Quote I feel Bolton could go up a gear Quote Poor defending but a great strike. Now letās push on. So the Happe left foot cross field long pass does work sometimes. Game on. Quote Much better now from the O's.At least we're having a go at them Quote We found ourselves in that last 25 minutes..if anything we could have been 2-1 up..Good rally Quote Finished the half looking like the better team. Couple of howlers from the more experienced heads but shown a few moments of class too. Hopefully one half is all we need to sharpen up. Quote We livened up in the last 10 mins, but overall we look slow and poor. The goal we gave away was awful. Hemming didn't cover himself in glory. Charlie took his goal well, but overall If Bolton up their game, they'll win this. We lack a midfield apart from Zech. Ethan has done nothing. I'd like to see Warrington come on Quote Look at the quality on bolton bench blimey Quote Hemming does not look like a safe pair of hands I'm sorry to say. Quote We should play the ball around their lump at the back Santos..A thug in a football shirt Quote Was just thinking what a good game Sweeney was having then nearly cost us a goal. How did Charles miss that! Quote Weāve been saying it, Hemmings just not doing it. Weak for both goals. Ā Didnāt expect that. Quote What the hell happened there?!?!? Quote Donāt deserve to be losing this š Quote Absolutely appalling goalkeeping from this guy. As bad of a performance as Iāve seen for years. Quote Totally hacked off by that. Losing is one thing but handing them the goals like that is frustrating. It that type of keeping continues we are in trouble. Will just create nervousness in the defence. Quote Just seen the difference between the keepers. One cocks up the other great save. How games are won and lost. POST Quote So unlucky and we didn't deserve to lose that, yes Hemming had a nightmare but these things happen the most important thing is they are not repeated in the next 10 games. Ā Quote We didn't deserve to lose it but, due to not sticking the ball away, we can't say we deserve to win it. The keepers were the difference today. Good finish for their second goal to place it in the roof of the net. So in the end, we drop one point. Overall, I'm encouraged by our performance. Looking to take another positive, Happe only got a yellow, he could easily be missing a few games. Quote Don't mind losing by the odd goal to a team you'd expect to finish above us but we made a LOT of clownish errors today. Quote I donāt like putting down our own but the keepers performance was simply shocking. Didnāt catch a cross. Terrible positioning. If I comment on the goals I may get banned! May I never witness a GK performance in an Os shirt like that again. Quote Yes these things happen but fcuk me Hemming was on a different level(downward)compared to their keeper!! Sorry but no excuse for their second goal..Simply awful keeping.. Quote I understand the frustration on the mistake to gift Bolton the win that they didn't deserve, but I like to think we won't crucify our new, 'young' keeper on his first appearance. If he gets wind of the vibe I can't see it helping things. Just my 2p. Quote The keeper had a poor game, everyone has them it's just when they make mistakes it normally costs teams goals. I thought a draw would have been a fair result on the balance of the game, Bolton did not impress me to be fair and they played with fear at times. They do know what they are doing though and I suspect they will get better with more games played. Ā Quote People asked me prior to the game whether I thought the keeper was good and I replied that we have been so dominant in pre season that I have barely seen him make a save. Well I can tell them now, in 74 years of supporting the orient Iāve seen some dodgy keepers but I honestly canāt recall one having as bad a 90 mins as him. Dropped catches when nobody was around him, came for set pieces and not getting there , causing havoc with our defenders having no faith in him and gifting them 2 goals. Howes had one bad game and was slated by all and sundry but he must be picked for Tuesday. By contrast Bostonās keeper was pulling off world class saves and if the keepers were swapped we would have won 5-0. I am absolutely gutted. Quote We wouldnāt have beaten anyone today with that clown in goal. Quote But it wasnāt one mistake it was a whole catalog of fumbles. He dropped simple catches on 3 occasions, it was actually like watching an outfield player having to play in goal because of injury to the keeperā¦ā¦ā¦no, it was worse. Quote Had a sleep and on reflection I feel Bolton can consider themselves lucky to have the three points. No idea where the highlights are showing these days but from memory we've gifted them two goals. We've scored, hit the bar, and had the majority of play and chances, they missed a sitter. Should have been a draw. Quote Kelman was outstanding yesterday everything you want from a striker even the Bolton forum are saying he slaughtered their defence. Quote The first goal is even worse than I thought yesterday, his arms are not even out trying to save it, almost like heās trying to break his fall rather than push it wider of the goal, not sure what heās trying to do there. The second is an absolute disaster as we all know. Quote Ā 2nd goal was one of the worst mistakes I have ever seen by a League goal keeper, if he could not catch the ball then far better to just punch the ball away Ā Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Seems reasonable.Ā One mon though saying they had the "majority of play"- presumably that means possession, which I don't think they did. Quote

MickyD Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I see Wanderlust is still posting for likes! WrexhamĀ https://www.redpassion.co.uk/ Ā It's going to be packed as usual despite the game being televised especially as it's the first home game of the season for us and we're playing you guys. I expect Parky will get a warm welcome back even though some fans weren't fond of his playing style, but he has the respect of most of us for keeping his dignity and showing a bit of class as our cowboy owner Anderson drove us to the verge of extinction.Ā McClean is universally hated though - we have history with him trying to kick us off the park and he hates Bolton with a passion.Ā Not sure what to expect from our team. Eight regulars were injured and although they are getting back to fitness they missed the preseason and will probably be eased back into the team over the next month or so and won't be available for our game - with the possible exception of Dion Charles and maybe Johnston. We have a number of new lads - and possibly McAtee joining today - but they don't know each other yet. Throw a new system into the mix and it leaves us with no idea how we'll perform. There is also the prospect of players leaving with Adeboyejo being the likeliest. Ā Ā ******************************************************* Ā There are several BWFC forums and like most clubs we have our share of dickheads, moaners, keyboard warriors and know-it-alls - water off a ducks back for me as I just ignore them and I would advise you do the same. A recurring theme about Wrexham is the Hollywood connection but I reckon that's just jealousy and frankly some sad people don't like anyone. I have grown up conversations with a lot of fans from different teams as I'm interested in seeing what they think of their club. For me personally, I'm just grateful we still exist after being asset-stripped and minutes from liquidation just four/five years ago. A lot of others felt the same at the time but as we've gradually built back expectation has started to rise and that tends to bring the idiots out. The vast majority of fans are families nowadays as we are very much a community based club thanks to our saviour Sharon and her team. The football's been very exciting, we've been to Wembley and we're getting good crowds with around 17k ST holders.Ā Just ignore the idiots and enjoy a great day out. Ā ************************************************* Looks like there will be around 24 to 25k attending. Two legends of our club died recently and there will be some sort of tribute before the game. Tommy Banks was the last surviving member of our 1958 FA Cup winning team, and also the oldest living England player until recently having played in the 1958 World Cup. Roy Greaves played 495 games for the club scoring 66 goals from midfield in the 60s and 70s. Hope that can be respected. It's a bit special as both of them were born in raised in Bolton. Those were the days eh? For those travelling, the car park at the stadium is huge but matchday parking is a nightmare, especially the queues to get out afterwards. Would strongly recommend parking a little way from the ground and walking in. Couple of pubs nearby that welcome away fans. Horwich Parkway train station IS the stadium station BTW - built for the stadium. Arrive early would be my advice - plenty to do/see. It's good to be playing another historic club that has been through troubled times but now has the ambition to get back up the leagues - so welcome back to League 1. P Quote

matty2094 Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 Shortened midweek post taken fromĀ https://www.stagsnet.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=43053. Not an awful lot to report to be honest.Ā PREMATCH Quote As encouraged as I was from Fridayās performance I think itās a step too far to expect anything from this game unless Bolton play a much weakened side. The Barnsley game must have taken a huge amount of energy out of our players when we are already short due to the injury situation. Add on the fact that DKD could also be gone and I just donāt think we can quite reach the top of this mountain. In reality Iād rather bow out now and conserve the energy for precious points in the league but Iām sure Nigel and the boys will still give their all. Quote Stags to win it Quote Nearly 500 sold for this, good effort all. Loyalty point for the 500 please! Quote Good chance for rotation against tough opposition. Quote Ticket sales look absolutely awful for Bolton. Be surprised if thereās 3000 there looking on their website. Quote We are not half short in defence already, probably on our third choice LB two games in. Iāll take avoiding any injuries above anything else tonight. Quote 4-0 Quote It's a formidable forward line anyway so I can't see Bolton being able to keep us from scoring. 3-2 to Bolton? Ā DURING Quote More buffering on Sky+ than some of my favourite porn sites i visit regularly. Quote Commentator is dreadful, he breaks Each comment. Into different sections with pauses Between. Every couple Of words. Quote Stalemate. Not an exciting half, but satisfactory. Quote Good half time tunes though... Quote Player ratings from them has Williams and Pym as our best players on 6.8 each. McLaughlin next on 6.7. Flint worst of the defence. their CB Forino is highest rated player on 7.1 Ā Quote Nice stat that itās 33 years since we last beat Bolton. I was there that Tuesday night, it ended a 20 plus game unbeaten run for them in Division 3. Quote Really late challenge by Boateng, absolutely cleaned out the Bolton lad on half way. Yellow card, could have been red. It seems very out of character for Boateng. Quote Nice to see Boateng playing with some passion and desire, typical Evatt obviously wants him sent off and shot and dawn - cry baby Quote Think this is incredibly generous to BoatengĀ He's had a good game but that was a petulant kick out, guess he's just frustrated that we're behind despite probably being the better side for the first hour at least. Quote Either way it goes now we have to be proud of that performance. Quote Boateng to take ours. Score and we are through. Boateng skies it. POST Quote fgs boys, it was in the palm of your hands. Quote 3 poor penalties. Shocked by that. 2 penalties to win it. Poor from Gregory for their goal but overall a decent performance. Great goal from DKD. Gutted. Quote canāt help but feel absolutely gutted, so bloomin close Arrrrrr!!!!!!! Quote Disappointing to lose when we had 2 match points but I'd sooner bow out of the cups early this season & consentrate on getting to 50 points asap. Maybe win that Freight Rover thingy.Ā Quote Not too bothered if Iām honest, we had 2 chances to win it but failed, Boeteng could have easily got sent off and his penalty was awful. Very scrappy game and pretty even. Both teams making 9 changes and it showed. Some very sloppy play at times and never really looked decisive. Quote Boateng's foul was a solid yellow but never a red. It looked like a bit of payback for something previous but not exactly subtle. Quote Best team throughout the game, with much the better football. Travesty we lost that, even playing our reserve side. Quote Yes a strong yellow for me too, but some refs might have given a red for violent conduct, I don't think you could call it a late challenge as he quite clearly meant itĀ Ā The good news was the odious Direite (Evatt) was given a yellow card for being a mardarse as usual. Quote Think we were excellent tonight. Unfortunate about the penalties but drawing away at Bolton is very encouraging. We had the better chances too. 0.86xG for Bolton compared to 1.37xG for us. Boateng stood out for me - really progressive on the ball and donāt think he gave it away once. He handles the ball in tight areas under pressure ridiculously well. Roll on Saturday! Ā Quote
