Quote After defeat in last seasons play-off final and a poor start this season may fans calling for Evatts' head and most of them think it should be now giving the International break to get a new man in and re-organise. A defeat to us tomorrow might well add weight to their cause. Quote Jeez Bolton gone really strong, only 3 changes from Saturday. Quote Desmond2-2 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 6:59 pmJeez Bolton gone really strong, only 3 changes from Saturday. Fans not very happy. Worried about players picking up injuries rather than the result. Quote Mr Evatt won't be a happy bunny as I believe they are fielding a very strong side, and he's already a man under pressure. Quote Reading the bolton supporters comments on twitter I don't fancy Evatts chances of being in charge there much longer Quote They’re a very dramatic and entitled fan base Quote Bolton seem to get in many good positions but then do next to nothing with the opportunity. Every Barrow player putting in a good shift Quote Bolton have stepped it up second half and we have lost shape imo with subs made. Stanway has made some fabulous saves Quote Absolute blatant handball before their second.... referee bottled it. Quote Big_Bluebird wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 8:32 pmThey’re a very dramatic and entitled fan base They have a history of not having to slum it like us and have a successful history. Times change . Quote It was an entertaining game against what was a very strong Bolton side. They dominated the ball but we put up a good show. Weston didn't lookout of place on his debut and Dallas was rewarded with a goal after an energetic and tireless display. Quote Very impressive attendance that (home and away) Quote We managed Evattball very well first half and caught them out in possession many times playing out from the back. Another game where we didn’t look out of place against higher league opposition. Unlucky Barrow, there wasn’t much in it. Quote We seemed to dominate Bolton in the first half and the second half belonged to Bolton. The team did have a decent fightback in the second half though and could have gone to penalties but it wasn,t to be.All is not lost though as we still have two games to play. Quote Good even free flowing first half but I thought the referee was poor overall tonight. He was hardly in the right position to see what many could plainly see. A foul missed that they went on to score from and a blatant hand ball they were certainly getting more than the rub of the green progressed but Bolton were definitely on the front foot second half. The shots on goal were all well taken but if the referee did his job properly they would never of had the opportunity. Quote There’s really not much you can draw from this game, though understandably people will try. And that goes for Bolton as well. Given that Evatt stock at Bolton isn’t great atm I think he had to win, whatever the status of the fixture. His pre-match comments sort of confirmed this. The fact that they won the way they did by that margin and with a strong team won’t get him any slaps on the back. The substitutions at HT were the obvious signs to me that Clemence was using the game mainly to spread out the minutes that many of his players spent on the pitch, even if the outcome would be to make a result a little less likely. Whilst it is well written, poignant and with good grammar and spelling, it is written from the perspective of a home supporter - unlike any of the posts I have ever written on another club's fan site. I never hide my allegiance. It also contradicts the opinions I have expressed on this site regarding Evatt's future. And as @ZiggyStardust alludes it doesn't mention Sheehan's unsuitability in the current system which he continues to erroneously interpret as "slagging off" as he is unable to comprehend the difference between that and "having a playing style that isn't suitable for the system Evatt is trying to play but would be absolutely fine if the system and tactics changed" - comprehension not being his strongpoint. As it happens, I didn't bother going on the Barrow site for a game of such insignificance in the scheme of things - but if I ever do you'll be able to recognise me as the one unashamedly supporting the mighty Whites and posting under my own name. matty2094
Think I'm a fair weather Wanderers Ways'er at the minute. All posts taken from https://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=191636 PREMATCH Quote Well if we still have a club on Saturday it'll be making it's weary way up north for a visit to Bolton for a game that possibly wouldn't be a surprise to anyone if it turned out to be Reading's last ever FL game, though realistically the club is likely to limp on to Christmas. Pretending now that there's nothing wrong at camp Madejski then this is a game between two sides who have had disappointing starts to the season. Reading officially got their season of to a disappointing start after the god awful showing v Orient last week while Bolton have been consistently misfiring and have lumbered their way to being 3 points adrift of Reading in the table after a nicely rounded out 4-0 home stuffing from Huddersfield last weekend. Charity FC are probably just the right team to be visiting the Toughsh*t Stadium though as Bolton have not won any games at home so far and have conceded 6, while failing to score, in their last two home games alone. Before that they were held to draws by Mansfield in the League Cup and Wrexham in the league. The 1-1 draw with Mansfield featured their only home goal so far, so plenty of unwanted records for the Trotters to break this weekend. Bolton brought in 9 players in the summer including Luke Southwood from Cheltenham but Luke has yet to feature for Bolton so you're unlikely to see him saving the day on Saturday. Threats come from Dion Charles and Victor Adeboyejo who are the only players to have scored in the league for Bolton so far, with 1 goal apiece. Quote Just the 3 wins to show from 17 previous league visits to Bolton Wanderers and all league games have been played in the years since 1984. Only one clean sheet has been managed by Reading in those games as well. Bolton have managed more than double the number of Reading wins so Bolton away is a game that usually results in a bad case of depression. Quote Bolton 4 Reading 0. or match abandoned. Quote Bolton aren't that good. But a loss seems nailed on. Quote A chance to view the open casket before it’s buried. Quote They're important. The more wins, the more likely we can avoid relegation even with a points deduction. And every game could be our last, so we need to get as much enjoyment out of what's left as possible. Quote 3-0 Bolton. A new Wanderlust appears under the name Harry Bo Quote Got to say that there’s a lot of sympathy at the Reebok for you guys, we’ve been through all this ourselves as you know and we wouldn’t wish it on anybody so let’s hope there’s another buyer in the wings ready to come in for you? As for our match, we really are bobbins at the moment and our new signings have if anything made us worse. After our Wembley disaster the confidence levels are low and Evatt isn’t helping with his rants and claims that he doesn’t know how to pull the team from under the black clouds of the play off final, indirectly blaming the fans for this still hanging over us and nothing to do with the shite we’re producing on the pitch with his slowly slowly garbage system. Not only are we not scoring, we’re not even having shots. He’s gone to a midfield two which isn’t working, two wingbacks that stop on the half way line and 3 up top who never see the ball so with all that I should be feeling pretty confident if I were you. As you can imagine, sentiment is not good at the moment so I’m sure Ruben will know all this and look to frustrate as long as possible then take advantage of one of the many cock ups we make at the back trying to fanny about playing out from the back. I can see you pinching a 1 nil win if your patient or more if you come with a positive attitude but I frankly don’t see anything but another bad day for the Wanderers and maybe the final nail in Evatt’s coffin? Quote Thanks for the support, sounds like you guys might be just as happy with a Reading win esp. if it’s the end for your manager. Quote How have you guys gone from playing scintillating open attacking football to that in six months? Quote Thanks nice to hear from someone normal up there who isn't Ten Bobsworth. Then Lusty appears... Quote Hello again folks. My take on it is that we got worked out at the beginning of the year with a high press and a block on the straight pass to midfield (mainly Sheehan back then) which forced us to go long more (easy for big CBs to deal with against our midgets up top) and prevented us playing through the lines, plus it starved the ball players of time on the ball and gave the opposition opportunities down the flanks as we pushed out WBs on. Basically, we tried to play like City but with L1 standard players so the opposition forced us into proving we can do it under pressure (whereas previously teams sat off us) and we aren't good enough. so our attacking play flounders to create quality chances and we're susceptible at the back. Once one team did it successfully they all adopted it and our results went downhill for the most part. The manager believes we can do it but with so many key passes going astray we're struggling. We're all waiting with baited breath to see what Evatt does - a change in system or more of the same? It's difficult to change system with the players we have so it will be interesting. DURING Quote Why is it we are sh*t against all the out of form clubs. Quote What happened? First 3 games we were legit fantastic. Quick press etc. Why are we starting Chem? I can't understand what happened. It's not even the ownership issue Quote AscotexgunnerWhy is it we are sh*t against all the out of form clubs. Bolton are too good for their form to last, and the players heads have been scrambled this week. Quote Penalty, turning this shit off. Quote Charity FC strikes again. Quote Game over already. We'll get battered by Huddersfield too. Maybe after that we can get some good results again. Quote Always the ******* same, last week pointless Orient roll in and collect the points and this week it's Bolton who hadn't even scored a league goal at home getting the handouts. Might actually have a game we can win next week when Huddersfield turn up ready with their expectation for 3 points. Quote Marvel as our brave boys crumble to the mighty Bolton. Show some professionalism you weak minded cnuts. Quote Man, in the space of a week, lose at home to pointless Orient, takeover collapses, Selles fed up and might walk, getting dicked by Bolton. Fantastic supporting Reading Quote Now officially an embarrassment. Managed to ship FIVE there in April, I think they're going to try and beat it. Quote This one is on Selles and the players. I'm sick of excuses. Quote Ref has been dreadful, could have been red card in first couple of minutes, let Noblot totally bully us, but we are to weak in center midfield, so need to strengthen there. Hey ho on we go, come on you royals Quote 3-1. Could be a famous 4-3 comeback win. Quote WestYorksRoyal3-1. Could be a famous 4-3 comeback win. Coming back from 2-0 I’ve still got PTSD 29 years on from it Quote Well that positivity lasted....4-1 Quote Do none of them have a brain. Quote What is Jem on? Two nailed on penalties pulling forwards down like total morons. Quote In 45 minutes Bolton have tripled the number of goals they've scored this season Quote I literally sent my lad a text before game started and said with Bolton not even scoring a goal in 3 home league games just watch em score 4 when Charity FC roll into town and they’ve done in the first half !! Can’t take anymore club is a joke, fold it now ! Hope Dai dies a painful death ! Quote Been saying this for months. Selles is naive and stubborn. A dreadful combination. Quote Fortunately I've got the Bolton commentary. 2 definite penalties-Mbengue is always a disaster waiting to happen and now Bindon (usually so steady)thinks that we can rugby tackle in the box and get away with it. Quote Penalties are a bit of an issue for us at the moment - refs don't award them to us, happily award similar calls against us and our keepers can't save them. Quote Good penalty, didn’t have any faith he'd score, which was a bit unfair. Quote Ref seems to have a thing for penalties.... Quote I fancy us to get something from this now Quote Royal MonkeyToo little too late surely Get another one and it will be squeaky bum time for them.....but it will probably be 5-2 shortly. Quote Huddersfield 3-0 down at home to Northampton after going to Bolton last week and winning 4-0 ! This league is bonkers POST Quote I want Selles to say Toughsheet at some point in his post match interview Quote Hope Bolton turn it around and get promoted, as then we don't have to visit them again next season and their fans have been pretty supportive of us too. Still think we have enough to get a comfortable 14th - 18th finish, but it but it feels like we need a result quickly to lift the gloom from the past week. Quote Button - didn't do a lot wrong, got nutmegged, but it was a cool finish and he's got to spread himself. Craig - bit hit and miss, so obviously not a full back frequently playing in midfield and not offering an outlet where you want him to be. Dorsett - constantly leaves his man in space, slow to get out to the winger. Often plays several yards ahead of the defence not goal side of the winger. Mbengue - currently going through more of his mindless catastrophe phase. What he thought he was doing getting wrong side and then wrestling the guy to the floor for the pen, I have no idea. And a couple of ropey moments nearly giving breakaway goals. Bindon - at least he was trying to disguise his fouling, but you can't pull someone's shirt that far in the box and expect the ref to miss it. He's not got the pace to get out and cover Dorsett constantly being out of position and with Craig frequently awol even if he does it leaves a space either behind him, or behind Mbengue if he also shuffles across. Wing - playing too deep, his long pings and passing are good, but he's not the best at screening defence or tackling. Elliott - he's just not consistent enough. He's pretty good in possession, but he doesn't actually create enough goal opportunities and he's not really strong enough in the challenge. You can't play him and Knibbs imo. One or the other. Knibbs - One of the few players I think came out with much credit. Works incredibly hard, wins the ball back well, is a threat. But with a neutered Smith, he's struggling to have the same attacking impact Campbell - lots of promise and energy, but his finishing was poor today. Ehibhatiomhan - mercurial. Just needs to make better decisions and keep his energy up for the defensive game. Fluffed his lines defensively a couple of times, it didn't work, but at least after the first one trying to walk the ball away through four defenders he was trying to hack clear. Just sliced and got blocked. Smith - has to have the most thankless job in the team. Akande - very raw, I don't think he's likely to turn a game around, I think he's better starting than coming off the bench and trying to instantly get up to speed especially when it's going wrong. Abrefa - how he isn't starting is mindblowing. An actual fullback, who looks positionally aware and capable. HAS to start. Selles - got the team selection wrong, just like he got it wrong last week. And probably against Wrexham too. Ref: Very good game. Bolton - dunno what they're fans were complaining about, they looked the exact same full steam slick attacking side that's also very vulnerable at the back as I remember. Quote Inevitable score line after a shit week I’m sure Selles isn’t blameless but very much doubt anyone would do a great deal better. Dai has absolutely gutted us It’s a long road back from here again. I’m not sure anyone has the energy
