Amazed we have sold over 4K tickets, for a game most people are saying how many they would be happy to lose by.

The idea of that silly cunt packing his 'Evatt Out ' flag is truly pathetic. He said he was only getting it if the performance merited it. Not sure what he deems 'acceptable'.

That's what I would hope for too. Although Bolton won well at weekend, glad they did not lose, as we tend to lose against a team on a losing streak.

Have always been a follower of Glasgow Rangers and Scott Arfield was a legend for them.

Am sure he’ll be part of the squad on Saturday, will be hard to shout abuse at him but I guess I’ll have to do duty and oblige anyway!

A seriously experienced campaigner who plays as an attacking midfielder who can score.

I guess he will be just one of our problems on Saturday, even coming on as a sub, but I can see us doing well regardless.

Quote
If Lindsay leaves I think we will be turned over , Bolton are in a false position and if we are managerless we will struggle.

Managerless Crawley 0 Bolton 10
Im serious. We are getting relegated with SL.

{clutch at straws mode on}
The only shred of comfort considering the likely news today is that Bolton play Arsenal away tonight in the Carabao cup, so they may take that match a lot more seriously than Saturday’s match.

Everet made it clear Sat is the priority and he's playing the reserves tonight. They are also staying down here till Sat to prepare.

They will massacre us Saturday.

Just checked Bolton only have three players who started Saturday in their 5 - 2 v Reading starting tonight v Arsenal He's rested most of his starting eleven.

They come at us like dogs out the traps, press hard we will crumble and mess up and they will score a load . Just watch.

Admit it will be a struggle on Saturday, but some of these score predictions are ridiculous. I am sure the team and Ben will do the best they can to get a result.

ok agreed 8-0 maybe not but can you honestly say 4-0 or 5-0 is unrealistic?

Better side in the first half, but losing.

Same story.

Ref is incompetent as is the linesman West Stand side.

Ref is allowing Bolton players ref the match for him.

Quote

Complete utter shambles conceeding then again nearly staright after. Players need to take responsibility and Williams needs to organise the defence i.e. captain! After that we grew in confidence from what looked like could be 5-0 at HT; instead we can claw the 1-0 goal back, but must have more goal attempts for all the possession around their box. We are being beaten by pace on both wings which is a worry, but we've clearly rattled these cheating dirty northerners at times. Their manager carded. Would like to hear Gladwin get involved more. Kelly playing a level beyond everyone and JoJo has kept us in this game. We attack the BW end next and need the crowd to lift the team. HT Reds 0 Dirty Northerners 1

Typical Crawley keep the ball move it well until the final third and then we struggle. Throw in the usual soft goal or two from the opositon and repeat..

POST MATCH

So frustrating yet again! Nice passing interchanges by Crawley but up front we are just non existent. Did not look close to scoring
Quote

There number five could have defended our front line on his own today. Powder puff dosent describe it, I am not even sure we could claim to be firing blanks, we weren't shoouting three on target which were just tame efforts . They scored two from three clinical efforts and frankly we were lucky they hit the bar in first half injury time.

Have to agree there, I was livid at his antics.

Screamed like a child when he went down. Didn’t see too many of his teammates share his frustration.

We are not a dirty team, yet not just him but his teammates made out that we were fouling them all over the shop whilst they did the same, but just more expertly.

This quote from the Norts forum was brilliant .....

How did the referee only allow 7 minutes added time, 30 seconds allowance for each of the 10 substitutions is 5 minutes plus the time for treatment to their 'keeper and a long delay for Mbete's injury it should have been much more. We scored twice in the first 3 minutes and given the correct added time we could have salvaged a 4-4 draw.

Finally, where were the Bolton supporters? They took the full allocation of 1473 and had said they had sold the bulk of them yet they only brought 633.

Love a game under the lights etc.  Home to Bolton tomorrow night and so far they’ve not showed much more than we have albeit two points ahead of us currently. Still they’re a big club and should bring a decent away following with a 1473 allocation given.

No Jay Jay Okocha or Djorkaeff featuring and no indication that Vernon Kay will be there.

Expecting a dirty game with no quarter given, 1-0 win in the 99th minute.

Hi guys, looking forward to the game tonight but let’s hope this rain stops and doesn’t spoil things. We’ve had a lousy start so far, Evatt trying to be clever changing everything after our Wembley disaster but at least he’s admitted he got it completely wrong in our opening games which is quite something for him! We seem to be back on track now so will definitely be expecting to win tonight though we know it will be far from easy. It would be nice to see Eaves in tonight, he never really got much of a chance when he was at the Reebok so it would be good to see your giant against our giant Santos and see who comes off best. Anyway let’s hope it’s a good game and isn’t spoiled by poor refereeing as so many are? I think we’ve pretty much sold out our allocation so it should be a good atmosphere too as long as you don’t go and spoil it by winning!! 😁

Quote

Ah Mr Blobby, I am just trying to weigh up the relative merits of the "big" teams in the division, how did you get on against Huddersfield? Do you see yourselves up there with them as promotion contenders?

Quote
Ah Mr Blobby, I am just trying to weigh up the relative merits of the "big" teams in the division, how did you get on against Huddersfield? Do you see yourselves up there with them as promotion contenders?

I think the jury’s still out on us yet Bingers, we had an awful start culminating in that atrocious defeat to Huddersfield  but I think that was mainly down to Evatt completely upturning the team and playing just two in midfield. The furore from the fans was immense and indeed Evatt was lucky to keep his job after criticising the fans as being like a black cloud since Wembley. He immediately returned to the normal set up and results obviously have improved. For ages though the fans have been critical of his playing out slowly slowly from the back and holding possession but in our own half. He seems to accept now that possession is pointless unless you do something with it so at Crawley we let them have more of the ball and tightened up at the back allowing our pacy forwards to hit them on the break. In fairness we should have won more convincingly at Crawley as their keeper made two cracking saves from Charles and Dempsey was so unlucky hitting the underside of the bar. I’m expecting a similar set up tonight although I’d expect you to be a little more dangerous than Crawley were. Like I said the jury’s still out on us but I believe other than Birmingham we have probably the best squad in L1 so as long as Evatt uses it well I still see the automatics as within our grasp. 🤷‍♂️

Quote

As Huddersfield beat Bolton 4-0 and we beat Huddersfield 3-1 logic says we should win tonight 7-1.
Not much history with Bolton and our games rarely end in draws with just 2 from the 15 games, 5 wins for us and 8 for them. At home we have won 2, drawn 1 (last season) and lost 4, I well remember beating them 4-0 in our 1965-66 season in the top flight.
After an iffy start Bolton have won their last 2 games and I watched just over an hour of their game at Crawley when I was surprised that they conceded possession to Crawley (68.6%) although Crawley were impotent up front. Surprisingly Bolton have failed to score in 4 of their 7 games despite having some decent strikers.

Quote

Ah brilliant, now our best player so far this season has done his hamstring. The left-back curse continues. What a truly miserable night.

You'd be surprised if Birmingham & Bolton aren't the top two.

Same Bolton that Huddersfield beat 4-0?Huh

Quote

Why is anyone surprised? They are a very well funded, well supported side. Ignore the fact that they reside in the same league as use. Because that is where the similarity stops. We have to be realistic. We are not in their ball park. Slagging Brady off for not beating a Ferrari in is Fiesta is ridiculous…

When teams that well funded come alive you’re bòlloxed.

Quote

Bolton are just a much better side than us, simple fact

Quote

I thought any points tonight would be a bonus but 4 points from our first 4 home games against Exeter, Burton, Wycombe and Mansfield was very disappointing and ought to have been more like 8.

They were clearly better than us and we get caught out with balls over the top (2nd goal) or threaded through for players running through. How did a corner come straight across the face of goal for their 3rd goal? You also have to remember that their 2 first choice strikers were on the bench. Up to 90 minutes we did not look like scoring and I don't recall their 'keeper having to make a decent save. I thought McCarron did very well when he came on and probably created more down the left flank than Fosu did.

Finally, where were the Bolton supporters? They took the full allocation of 1473 and had said they had sold the bulk of them yet they only brought 633.

Quote

If any of the top funded sides turn up on their day, including Huddersfield we are in trouble. You are playing in effect against mid level championship players, due to the wages they attract. If the top funded side gels on that day, a team that is funded at lower league one level, is going to get opened up and exposed. If people can't understand the vast difference and gulf between us and them in quality, I'm not sure what else I can say. Losing is always disappointing. But we simply do not have the tools at our disposal to take on an on song Bolton side. At an estimation I would say they are funded at least six times above what we are. Occasionally we might give sides like that a bit of an issue, but on the whole we are real trouble if they are playing to their standard.

Their will always be rare exceptions. But generally the rule favours the better financed sides.

Quote

Very sensible post Tel, there is two leagues within a league, there’s us, Crawley, Burton, Cambridge, Shrewsbury and Stevenage etc and then the likes of Bolton, Birmingham, Charlton, Wrexham etc like you say the disparity in quality of players is vast.
Having said all that, getting pumped 4 at home is never good.

Quote

A very disappointing night all around. A heavy home defeat in awful conditions and with what looked to be a really bad injury for Mbete, would be staggered if he is not out for several months as he looked in real pain (speedy recovery Luke!).

Im not going to go too over the top after a defeat to a clearly really good side who played some slick football at times (there first goal looked offside in real time though?).

Another game another decent first half performance.

Sat too deep the last 10 minutes but hopefully Hurst sorts that out. The outcome of this game will come down to how Hurst deals with the changes Bolton make and how we use our subs.

Ref is poor, giving them everything and giving out yellow cards to Town players at every opportunity.

Absolute elite class s**thousery by Morgan there. **** off evatt you former fat c***.

Quote

I have to say I thought they would win it but all credit to salop for the way we defended. It was 11 players who played their socks off especially against Bolton and the ref.

Quote

I think Nurse had cramp. I suspect the "injury" was a bit of time wasting and we had all intention of subbing him off around the hour mark.

Quote

frustrating decison from the ref which prevented a possible goal. we have had three ref on the row who dont seem to give us anything but the opposition everything. we really dont seem to be getting any luck this season.

Quote

Totally agree Pilch, spot on, referee was a total disgrace today, been a long long time since I’ve seen a shocker like that

Quote

Yes, happy to get a point woth a great backs-to-the wall performance but boy oh boy what a dreadful decision by the ref to give us a free kick when Ojo was through. One of the worst decisions I've seen. Bizarre. Inexplicable. Shockingly inept. And Evatt? What a plonker to be sent off after ranting at the ref. He gave Bolton nearly everything.

Quote

Saw the Evatt red card on a livefeed - it was a minute or so behind the radio commentary so I looked out for it.

It looked nasty from Evatt on Feeney, though Morgan didn't back down. - You'd expect better from a manager but there you go I suppose.

Quote

I predicted a draw on here at half time which I find sad that I had no confidence that we could hold onto a two goal lead based on our second half performances this season. Don't know if it's a fitness thing or wrong tactics from the Manager at half time in games. Pleased however with a point especially with the referee against us as well. Hopefully the referees assessor will have seen what we saw.

Quote

Shout out to the fans who travelled though

They were the only ones singing for large parts of the game... big effort

Quote

We were so good for 25 minutes or so, and then the quality started to tell and it always felt like if they scored early enough they’d turn it around and win it.

Therefore, somehow, thanks to the timings of the goals, it still felt like a point gained rather than two points lost, which is a bit mad really.

Our squad is nowhere near the level of Bolton’s and that’s why we can be thankful for today’s draw. The run of games coming up though, that’s the time to step up. What a great point to build on, if we are able to beat those around us.

Quote

And totally agree, I was completely perplexed at full time, why were Bolton kicking off!? Referee gave them absolutely everything all game, he was a disgrace

Quote

Absolutely, 19,000 home fans barely made a peep first half and second wasn’t much better, Town fans who supported during these difficult circumstances were a credit to the club 👍

Quote

The ref played exactly 8 minutes extra time despite a sub and an injury happening during it. I assume that's what they was moaning about. It was probably more frustration that they could not get a winner.

Quote
what they was moaning about. It was probably more frustration that they could not get a winner.

it was actually a couple of seconds short of 8 mins which was as barmy as the 8 minutes ws initially ,   the ref was out of his depth,   some harsh early yellows from him too,  Pierres was for sure,   and 2 for wasting time,   one for Savin for checking the ball was correctly settled after a long stoppage,   another another for a throw which wasnt wasting time any more than an average throw

We both also seem to be having similar problems with attack and defence, scoring plenty but conceding too many so it could be an interesting game come Saturday. We’re wracked with injuries at the moment, especially in midfield with Dempsey the latest long term casualty to ad to our skipper Thomason. Central defence has been another issue for us although we are hoping to have Toal back after his concussion playing for N Ireland. We’re ok up top but can’t seem to settle on a partnership with four very similar to choose from.

So looking forward to this one because they’re always entertaining games so let’s just hope officials like the ones we had at Brum the other night don’t spoil it for us. I’m hoping for a win but the way we’re playing just now I’d say you have every chance of your first away win here! ☹️

Hi again and welcome.         [007 bond villain mode] Welcome Mr Cee, we meet again [007 bond villain mode]

You come on here every time we play you with your hard luck story giving it the "we are rubbish, we've got loads of injuries, we are in bad form, fans not happy with the manager, half time pies are poor, we are conceding lots goals and the flood light are not bright enough" etc.         And usually you seem to get the better of us, especially at your ground.

Funny you speaking about the refs as last (few?) times we've been at your ground we've had some right incompetent one sided refs in your favour, one that sticks in memory is when that Bolton fan ran onto the pitch during stoppage time wasting most of it and the ref still only played the bare minimum that was added on, shown by the fourth official and you guys were unsurprisingly winning at the time.

Anyway hopefully will be a good game, both teams you'd usually expect to be around the top part of the table in league 1 come the end of the season based on previous campaigns form and final standing.

Anyway good luck for the season other than tomorrow, or the reverse fixture.  Thumbup

No wonder we concede a lot of goals the amount of times our forward players lose the ball too easily, realy putting pressure on the defence.

Collins doing good defensive work, he shouldve had a shot at goal when on the edge of boltons box early on.

Our 1 corner was embarrassing once again putting pressure on our on goal and defense.  Weve got two giant centre backs go up for corner, so we decide to take a short one and  a fuck it up.

Absolute disgrace by the ref. The first save should have been the last touch of the game. 9 bastard minutes.. WTF

Quote

To make matters worse, it looks like the bloke handballs it in. Bilo punches it against his elbow and it bounces in.

Quote

Lads, the penalty kick isn’t over until the ball stops moving or goes out of play.

Quote

I have long had a theory that the Refs Trade Union enjoys punishing DF for the Fergie Time sins of his dad

Let them take the corner - fair enough, gives dodgy penalty, but that should have been the last kick

Quote

Football is great isnt it !
Referee needs to explain how he added 6 mins, with no further hold ups and then gives a penalty over 8 mins after 90.

Quote

As for dodgy penalty ...when you have calmed down look at the replay and ask yourself why RDH decided to swep the lads legs away when there was little danger.

Yes it is gutting...but anyone suggesting that Bolton did not deserve it after 11/3 shots on target, 7/3 shots off target 58/42% possession and 15/3 corners really is reacting to the disappointment rather than the reality. We could have counted ourselves very lucky with a point.

Quote

It was 20 seconds after the 6 minutes of extra time when he gave the corner. The extra two or three minutes was eaten up with all the arguing with the ref.

Quote

Can’t fault DF though - we were absolutely robbed

Quote

Outrageous!
Was the ref using some Mickey Mouse watch his parents gave him for his fifth birthday?

Quote

I wasn’t able to watch the game but it sounded like a fair result but a gutting way to lose.

I’ve seen Bilo’s efforts for the penalty -the double save was fantastic and it looked like it might have been handball to put the ball in the net? If I was Fergie I’d be asking how three Bolton players got to the ball before any Posh player got close.

Quote
Hugh Fat B'Stard Wrote: I know the laws state that you have to add on time for a penalty, but do you have to add on time for a corner?

No, I’ve seen plenty of games where the ref has blown before a corner was taken. I’ve also seen games where the ref blows instantly after the corner was taken.

Quote

The ref's time keeping was awful, DF also claims that if the Lino had stayed in position (on the line from the penalty) he would have seen the offside and also the handball that put the ball in the back of the net. A very poor day from the officials.

Quote

Additional time is allowed for a penalty kick to be taken and completed at the end of each half of the match or extra time. When additional time is allowed, the penalty kick is completed when, after the kick has been taken, the ball stops moving, goes out of play, is played by any player (including the kicker) other than the defending goalkeeper, or the referee stops play for an offence by the kicker or the kicker's team. If a defending team player (including the goalkeeper) commits an offence and the penalty is missed/saved, the penalty is retaken.

So in this case the ref could have blown up after the second save - the kick was completed after the first rebound attempt

Quote

We looked good for about 20 minutes, and were the second best team for the other 79. It was a gut wrenching way to lose, but the only player in my view who deserved not to was Bilo. He played his best game in a Posh shirt by a mile. Our forwards never looked comfortable, and always seemed to want a lot more time than they had.

I think the referee probably made a mistake (both in not ending the game and missing the handball), but if it was the other way around, I bet a significant chunk of the comments on here would be in support of him - certainly in terms of timekeeping.

Quote

Just home, long ol day and gutted the way we lost it.
We didn't deserve to win but not sure we deserved to lose either.
Bilo was immense, I really like him.
Our left side was so poor today. Full back a massive issue atm whoever plays there
Bolton were nothing special and felt they were there for the taking but we didn't really show up unfortunately

Quote

I'm always amazed that so few people, ostensibly interested in football, fail to understand the term "MINIMUM additional time", as indicated by the fourth official.

Quote

So let’s go back to old times and simply forget about holding up the signboard. Would be fairer and give dickheads like this ref a free pass.

Alternatively go down the basketball route with proper timekeeping sponsored by Casio - might make a few quid for someone

Stoppage time is one of the few areas of discretion refs still have but this arsehole was a bad advert for it

Normally I’m over a defeat by the time it gets dark but yesterday was painful. Can’t remember being so upset since that West Brom game where some prick used a sweatshirt to wipe the ball down

When the corner was taken it was 20 seconds after the allotted 6 minutes, which I can only presume was time added for when Williams went down. If it was not then the ref fucked up.

Either way it's all very marginal and lets face it if RDH had not had a brain fart we would not even be talking about this.

Good game though.

I'm glad someone finally said it.

The time is the refs business, he has no reason to lie and after 99 minutes I'm fairly sure he'll want the game to end as much as anyone.

6 minutes = a minimum of 6 minutes. It's rounded down from whatever is on his watch.  It could be 6 minutes and 20 seconds, could be 6 minutes and 50 seconds.

All this moaning at time just overlooks the fact that we gave away a very silly penalty at a crucial time in the game.

I know they were on the wrong end of it, and so you can expect a bit of bias, but the amount of them seriously expecting the ref to blow up either when Dion is about to nod in the rebound, or when the ball’s bouncing around on the goal line is unbelievable. That’s never happened and nor will it ever happen - the closest you get is the ref blowing up when a team are on the break but still around the half way line.

They’ve got one sensible poster on there at least. Someone needs to point out how many times their players just sat down - it should have been more than 6 mins!

Oh, you youngsters.

With six seconds of stoppage time played Welsh referee Clive Thomas whistled for full-time a moment before Brazil scored. His decision reverberated around the world and he was never to officiate at another World Cup Finals.

1978 World Cup.

Admittedly a long time ago.

These days I think, quite rightly, 'a phase' of play is allowed to end before blowing.

According to the information posted by one of their fans, it seems the situations are different.

Of course, there would always be controversy in the Brazil situation though.
