It was weird that they were using the BWFC name but nothing to do with the club, understandably they kept their finances away from Ken et al. They were meant to be playing at Atherton LR this season, no idea what happened there, they had a decent league position but no one turned out to watch them. A shame.

Given the PR benefits of having a professional women’s side as part of the club, I’d fully expect Sharon et al will have plans going forward to reintroduce a women’s set up (as was the case with the U23s), but it has to be done at the right time and, more importantly, done properly.

Whatshisface Lovejoy (not the antiques leader) is a total twat but never spoke a truer word than 'Monkey Tennis'...

In th'Lympics I couldn't believe how shite their positioning was, and ballchasing like a primary school team, and the 'keepers - good grief...

Interestingly the women's hockey teams had miles better positioning, awareness and passing.

Maybe give the Monkey Tennis players hockey sticks?

A very old friend of mine, an international footballer and coach who recently passed away, was asked to do some coaching with the England Wimminz squad.

The outstanding phrase he used was "laughably bad" and went on to add that as utterly, embarrassingly inept the goalkeeping was it served to mask that other players, in other positions, were just as poor but it didn't stand out as easily.

As a coach he lamented that the squad, having "made it" were impervious to intruction or advice. He recalled being put in his place by one player who stated "I have over 100 caps, how many have you got ?". He had 35 btw. So clearly knew nowt.

It's strange, because it's quite clear how much better women are technically, as opposed to 5yrs ago, but keepers haven't progressed at all.

The top few are pretty decent now that they tend to have specialised coaches, but it doesn’t even filter all the way down the top division yet. Distribution has come on leaps and bounds though, similar to men’s football.

My daughter is a keeper and plays at a very high standard. She’s been a keeper for several years and I totally agree about the training. We had to find a keeping coach outside of her club, where she could train with boys. Big problem for me is the size of goals. No 12 year old girl should ever keep in full size men’s nets. They are pissing in the wind. Even now a few year later she still struggles. This puts many decent keepers off. Think though girls football has changed massively over last 5 years. Incomparable from years gone by.  Players are athletes now, not like in my day. They train many hours a week. Many of the decent girls, play Saturday for boys teams.  Recently watch a under 9 girls team batter u9 boys team. Again in my day this would never of happened. Some of the football these top girls team play now it frightening. Especially when your daughter is in goal at the other end.

My daughter started playing at age 5, in boy’s team until she joined a girls’ team at 10. One thing always very noticeable; girls brought up in boys’ teams were usually much more skilled both in tackling and in ball play.

A tip for any parents of girls who want to play football; get them into a lads’ team for the first five or six years until they have to join a girls’ team at secondary school.
