The Integral Gethin Jones

21/22

With him

P18 W10 D3 L5

Without him

P11 W2 D2 L7

Integral is the word for this mon. He makes Santos a better CB, helping Fossey to flourish,  link up to the centre of the park is brilliant.

If he stays fit I think we’ll make the playoffs

You need to redo the maths. P18 and W/D/L 19 then P13 and W/D/L 11

You're still a game short in the 'without him' figures.

Fuckin Morecambe messing up my figures. I’ll be throwing gas canisters next time!

Not that I threw anything last time, Your Honour 👀

He is our best player at the moment and is integral to the way we play, he was important last season but he has clearly bought into Evatts methods and training and has worked hard to continuously improve.

All the stuff with his mum and the legends games will have had an impact on his desire to make us a success and to give his all whenever he pulls on that white shirt.

Think he is brilliant

He’s been superb for us and his influence is massive, drawing parallels with the 90s he’s our modern day Phil Brown.

He's ace.  As soon as the final whistle went on Tuesday night you could see how much the win meant to him.  Should be captain IMO.

Agreed.

Massive admirer of his and he really makes us tick. Just does in quietly without you ever really noticing anything spectacular.

Agreed - a massive player for us ATM.

Has he chucked one up your missus by any chance?

Think Rudy's stat is slightly skewed as Gethin's time out injured coincided with injuries and the Sarcevic departure. And similarly his return coincided with a new formation and new signings.

I can't fault him though and we certainly are much better off with him in the team.

He's our most improved player from last year, wasn't sure he'd make the step up from L2. He has the 'pashun', as DazBob notes which is why he's VC and is captain material himself. Think the fact Santos has been a stalwart for 1.5 seasons probably edged him a head of Jones for the role. Santos got a lot of unfair stick I thought for not being able to 'handle' the armband. Like Jones being injured, Santos' captaincy happened at a time when everything was going wrong. Now we've gone on a good run no one is questioning his leadership abilities.

Think you’ve made your point about George however you suggested initially that he wouldn’t cut league 2 , which he did .

The step up to league 1 has been tough for him especially being in a struggling & injury hit team.

Wouldn’t write him off just yet though , but I’m sue you’ll be keeping an eye on him.

Like Santos, Jones has really benefited from Evatt’s influence. Both have made themselves indispensable. Whether it’s down to hard work or just taking time to bed in it’s been a pleasure to see them both come on.

During those games when we were short due to injuries, and in bad form, folk on here were giving Thomason man of the match- ahead of more senior colleagues.

He's only 19, and appears to still be developing physically.

For me his lack of pace does him no favours, but he has time on his side.

Whether he ultimately makes it or not, here or elsewhere, we don't know- but he's already served us well, has a good attitude and is liked by Evatt.

As usual, it seems customary to pick on a young, home grown player. Can't do his confidence any good (nor please his manager) when fans snipe and undermine them.

Dempsey had a low level debut on Tuesday- if that had been Thomason, some would have been all over him.

So in summary

With him, promotion form

Without him, relegation form

That's a massive difference & his importance can't be understated.

Aye.

He played on his own every game.

Wow, he really is better than I thought then!

😂

If only someone had a similar breakdown for Muamba in our last season in the Prem?

For what it’s worth, I agree with your assessment and prediction but I don’t feel the need to constantly snipe like you do.

Also I’d really like it to be wrong and for him to be the new McAteer. Do you?

I like this and I really think that where we are now, we are getting players again that we can associate and attach to.

Reminds me of a lower level Bergsson - understated leadership but shows passion at the right times, hardly ever gets beaten in a one on one, pops up with an occasional goal and assist, a good all round, dependable defender who loves to attack.  And I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed here nearly as long as Gudni, the only thing that might stop that is if the club outgrows his ability and has ambitions to be top half championship, but for the foreseeable he's nailed on 1st choice right back.

He’s a way to go to be as good as Gudni, here’s hoping though.
