E D L march
Will there be orange warriors preventing any foot shuffling on the pretense of marching then? I was pissed off tonight with fenian din in the Pendle. All I wanted was a quiet pint with the mrs and our mates then a kebab afterwards, not made up songs about fecking spuds for chrissakes!

Tv Box Sets
Inbetweeners of course 'cos it's fecking hilarious (and still rings true for most of my high school life even now, all those years ago!) And Band of Brothers (which IMHO should be made compulsory viewing in high schools. Ungrateful bloody kids! See what your forefathers had to do at your age and count yourselves bloody lucky!)

Favourite Macc Lads Lyrics (Or Song)
"You can cook you can fuck you can do the washing up, Now I've had enough, come on fuck off, Get stuffed." From 'Fluffy Pup' Genius and class in one fell swoop. Not forgiven Muttley since he nicked a microphone stand from a Mop 'do' though.......

Audi A6
I could never drive a fraudi for 2 reasons: Firstly I don't want to be associated with the dark side and their fraudi only carparks and Secondly, as the TG boys rightly say, the cocks no longer drive BMWs, just take a drive down daubhill........(they may not have mentioned the daubhill bit but you get the gist) And I'm quite happy with my Morris Minor thankyouverymuch.

Chippy Help Again Please!
I'll agree with that assumption, it's just that we're dead posh in Atherton like......

Chippy Help Again Please!
In my experience it seems that you have two options: first is buy one near or next to a decent pub where you're guaranteed plenty of hungry folk leaving of an evening, more so late night revellers at weekend, or one where it's a residential area densely populated by folks who would love a midweek and weekend chippy tea. Growing up in Over Hulton, I can just about remember the chippy next to the Red Lion (which is a house now) and also greasy Gordons on the precinct. Not the best, but a captive audience particularly on a friday or saturday night! Alternatively you went to Athy for chips at Callans or Lilleywhites among others, and recently this has been proven to be what people want, due to queues of folk out the door of market st chippy at lunchtime and tea! On the Horwich side, when I was a resident I travelled to Blacrod to that little white chipoil that does them in dripping and tasted all the better for it, and well worth the trouble to get there! Or course, this doesn't include the stagger home from the pub chippy treat, and again at four lane ends after greasy gordons came pit stop, but it's more of a kebab shop and just not the same..... Cham bought the Anchor pub years ago, and when he did he made sure he secured the Anchor chippy which went with it. A master stroke at the time as he got the boozers money in the pub and again when he chucked them out............striaght into his chipoil! I think it needs some serious market research.............a lot of these folks who live in these new developments I think try to disassociate themselves from chips and chipoils, call it snobbery if you will, I think it's daft. Unless they're so in debt with the mortgage that they live on jam butties and cardboard furniture, like we used to call ladybridge the 'jam butty' estate! And the chipoil at the top of Hulton Lane was owned years ago by my mum and dads neighbours. It was called Duttons and made themselves a fortune, and yes, there was always a queue out of the door! Why? Because they did fish, chips, peas, gravy, pudding, pies, beans and bread. And I suppose the occasional sausage (never ever a saveloy!). But it was always fresh, and good value. 'Nuff said.

New Landlord.
Good to know. I shall maybe have a look this weekend. They used to have some top jazz and ragtime bands as well as good food and excellent ale. Once remember they had a German 'batch' beer on called Furstenburg Dark Assassin. When poured it looked like guinness but tasted a bit like Ayingerbrau pils. Summat along the lines of 11% strength but quite eminently drinkable. Had 3. Couldn't walk! It just paralysed your lower body. Bit like Kwak does, but that's another tale from the sordid past that was Silverwell Street ale festival.......

Going To The Shop.....in Slippers
Maybe they were their 'fast' slippers - to be worn when you run out of summat and need it replacing pronto!

Abandoned Vehicles...
I'd tend to agree with Danny, apply to the DVLA for the logbook. If the registered keeper cannot be traced after 30 days, you can legally apply for a V5 in your own name. Really, it's like finding something in the street then taking it to the police station as lost property. If it's not claimed within 30 days then the item is yours. So long as you tell the plod and DVLA then there's no issue over 'theft by finding' If you do get the logbook you can get some replacement keys made up from Gordons then flog the bugger. If it's in decent nick and only 7 years old you should get a couple of grand for it or more. Or get a wheel clamp!

Wedding Venues
We got wed and had our 'wedding breakfast' at Egerton House. Top scran, decent ale, excellent value and second to none service. For a bigger do they have a kind of barn thing (technical term) around the back. For the evening do we had the upstairs at the Watermillock. From what I remember the ale was acceptable though I think I was on shorts for most of the night! The surroundings are top, for photos in the grounds to the decor inside and there's a bijou upstairs bar for guests. One thing though, book your own DJ as no matter what you tell the house DJ your prefeferences are, he'll ignore them and play the bloody spice girls, girls aloud, crap R & B (which isn't really RnB) and whatever else he gets out of the 99p CD bin at Tesco (I believe this was before the now commonplace downloading of everything onto a data chip the size of your fingernail). Obviously things may have changed since then (6 years ago!) but they're still worth a look. FWIW I can recommend a very reasonable outside caterer........!

Weather
The weather has smartly coincided with my love for Crabbies, plus the fact that it's on offer in Bookers. About ?1.50 a pint bottle! Long may the heat continue!!

Halliwell
Dont know what line of work you're in RW, but if it's anything to do with woodworking/joinery I may be able to help. Mate of mine booted her bloke out a few weeks ago and she's still got some of his kit she wants rid of cheap. Let me know if you're interested and I'll find out what she's got, alternatively if you've had your jabs and your passport's up to date then you can come down to Athy and have a look see.

I Want
I'd sooner have a go on one of these:

Graham Swann
Come on, you should know Diddles by now! He kept the old BWFC forum going almost single handedly with random theories and comedy moments, all he needs is a few bags of space raiders and lashings of ginger beer! Oh, and he'll literally be in orbit if you feed him them sherbet filled flying saucers.............. I must be getting old now though as I've renewed my rather jaded interest in the crikkit and have almost started to make sense of what goes on, aided and abetted by the fellas in the Pendle. It all started with the twenty20, after that it was all downhill..... Fools!
-
Radio Changes.
I fell out with R1 when Mark & Lard jumped before they were pushed. Rock radio & Radio 2 now, dunno if I'm getting old, but Ken Bruce makes me chuckle (like owd duffers do) and has a bloody good pop quiz at 10.30 every weekday morning. Jeremy Vine is excellent for current affairs at lunchtime. Rock radio can get a bit repetititititive sometimes (see what I did there?) but still plays some excellent tunage, from all around the world which we call ROCK!!!! (You have to say the ROCK!! in a falsetto screech, a bit like Gene Simmons out of t'Kiss band, or whatsisname out of t'Darkness band. Justin thingy, thats him.)

What Do You Look For In An English Pub?
For the past 10 or so years my local has been the Pendle in Athy. A bit pricey (keeps the chavs and kids out though) but the ale's top notch and they have a decent selection, also one or two guest ales on. Music isn't too loud and a good selection (the jukebox even has George Formby on it!) so long as Johnny isn't in one of his 'an evening with the rat pack' humours.... They know what time you are expected and always serve the regulars first, offer a taste of a new beer if required, and everyone knows everyone else. Never any trouble, a cheap (50p) pool table, darts and doms, good food at a decent price. The landlady (Joan) keeps everyone in check and there's a top heated beer garden too. I preferred it before it was done up of course as they had the stick to your feet carpet and you didnt get many cackling bloody wimmin in then! Saying that, I know folks who've lived in Athy for 25 years or more and don't even know where the place is! Quality

What Do You Look For In An English Chippy
And do yer chips in proper driping, not stinky veggie oil or suchlike 'healthy' alternative, they just don't taste the same. I'm with Smiffs on this, like our pie shop, you wouldn't want a skinny wench serving cos she obviously doesnt sample the wares and like 'em! Olympus seem to have the right idea with their standards of cleanliness and service but obviously you wont be hanging pensioners coats up or pulling their chairs out for 'em. Market street chippy in Athy always has a queue outside, good fish, not too much batter and cracking chips with just the right consistency gravy and proper mushy peas. Ocean rambler, jockeys whips, musical fruit and a BBC. Luvly! And if their ocean ramblers not quite ready then why not have a babbies yed? AND pickled eggs are a local delicacy too many times left off the top of the counter. AAAND dont charge for sauce or forks, i hate that! AAAAND why do chinkies insist on putting loads of pepper on their fish before they stick it in the fryer? It's just wrong on so many levels.....

Any Mechanics Need Work?
They do indeed Dan, but they don't have enough torques to smash the flywheel into atoms from within. Unless you paint go faster stripes on them. Allegedly.

Any Mechanics Need Work?
Blackley, are you a member of the AA (not alcoholics anonymous), RAC or any other motoring organisation? Might cover you on your insurance too, if so then there's your ride sorted to the garage! Quick sken on ebay has them at anything between ?250 and ?500, remember these will fit many more cars, not just the 307 so check the part number is correct and you might pick one up cheaper. Try GT on Adelaide street, 01204 855406. Ask for Tony Halliwell and give him the reggo, he's a top bloke and bits are cheap and easy to get. It's a well known issue with the 2 litres, the 14 and 1600s dont suffer from it, and as usual, it was one of Peugeots 'good ideas at the time' and kinda makes a mockery of the fact that these motors are extremely frugal and otherwise bulletproof (well, engine wise anyway)! Have you had the anti pollution additive topped up recently? We had to have this done at ?250 as it requires the rear axle to be dropped whilst the fluid is topped up, or it wont run properly or pass the emissions test at MOT time. There. Told you I'd cheer you lot up!

Any Mechanics Need Work?
2 litre HDI? Mmmmmmmmmmmm, would that be a dual mass flywheel then? If so, be prepared to touch your toes and get bummed for a grand or so. The reason why I got shut of Mrs Cures 307 2 litre HDI as soon as the clutch started to make odd noises! In comparison, the alternator should be quite cheap though! I'm no bloody help am I? But a ray of sunshine on a drab day nontheless..............

Anyone Recommend A Decent Restaurant In Horwich
Agreed, years ago Casa Brunos knocked everything else into a cocked hat. Bruno would go out of his way for you, birthdays, treats, anniversaries etc... I remember his 'party piece' coming out of the kitchen with a meat cleaver 'anyone got any complaints?' But it was a superb dining experience in every way, and most reasonable! I think he sold out to his nephew, and even though Mrs Cure said it was fantastic, to me it wasn't as fantastic as it used to be. Garlic bread too dry, no hand held kitchen implement death threats, no sparklers in the birthday cake and polaroids After that I haven't sampled it. Leo's is and always was a lively get together eatery kinda place, and Socrates is properly good, Stelios will come and eat with you at the table and explain everything from where the idea of the dishes came from and why, to what they put in them and why, and even ply the fat man in the party with ouzo until he thinks he's an extra from Zorba the Greek.......... Naming no names........ (and on plenty more than one occasion!) But yes, Horwich used to be and I'm sure still is the place in Bolton where you can eat more or less any country's finest food at a reasonable price and yet still have a big scrap with the locals about who spilled your pint afterwards. Aye, top fayre! Alternatively, if you can get behind the shutters at Aldi, you'll find all you can eat (though raw) at a very reasonable price, I.E. free to shoplifters.......

Gordon Browns Gaffe
That in my opinion is the saddest thing. The fact that Brown agrees with all that these people say to his face then slags them off behind his back (As I'm sure all candidates do) smacks of misdirected arrogance and indeed downright ignorance as to what the general public want to really know about. Man (or woman) in street is not as thick as these people would like to believe they are. Saying that, "would you change your vote?" "well, no, because all my family vote labour.........." etc etc etc.....its a feeble excuse, like pointing the finger in school "it wasn't my fault miss, HE made me do it......" No, actually, you did it to yourself! Now whether there's a viable alternative remains to be seen, but remember, there's only one reason why these people remain on the gravy train, and that, unpleasant as it may seem, is to keep their snouts dug as deep and for as long as they can, in the trough. Nu labour is nothing but a copy of old conservatism anyway, they have little truck nor respect for 'man in street' or 'the working class' merely because times have moved on and there really is no longer such a thing. This is as bad as not voting at all then blaming the electorate for voting the ruling party in! Be a sheep like all the other labour voters, and tories for that matter, 'we all vote the same way as our fathers did, and their fathers before them, it's 'tradition' that labour/tories give rights to the working man/support the interests of the business minded individual when in actual fact they're all as bad as one another and all want to roger us senseless for the same senseless ends! I'm voting for my local independent merely because he says that A) he knows local issues because he lives, er, just around the corner, believes that basically he can't align to any party because even though they all have their good points, they are all basically the same in their bad points, and C) I think he genuinely believes that he can make a difference and is enthusiastic, something our former elected MPs should learn from rather than count their majorities in their 'safe' seats! I'd hate a hung parliament as then it'll be all down to petty squabbles and misplaced allegiances, but then again I'd sooner have that than either of the red or blue alternatives. We seem to be saddled with a brain dead electorate who will vote for whoever because all their families do rather than make up their own mind about things, and as long as this mentality persists the country goes a little bit further down the road to rack and ruin. In the words of Monty Python, "you are all individuals!"............"I'm not...." This party election broadcast has been brought to you by the letters X, Q and Z, and by the number 2. My vote may not affect the outcome of the election result, but at least I can claim that I didn't vote for Brown, or other parties who will lead us up shit creek, but for someone who believes, however futile, that he can make a difference!
