Eddie
I’m very concerned it’s Dempsey - he’s hard as nails (no pun linked to his bust up) so it would take a lot to keep him out but I reckon he’s the one midfielder that we’d really struggle to replace with the other options. onefinfrandsen
Just a guess but it could santos and Dempsey, santos had a great game on Saturday but if he’s aggravated his injury that’s it till next season, dempsey had a really quite game which isn’t like him. Big miss if it’s them two but we will just have to do it the hard way

Whitesince63
We can all speculate but I think we’ve proved already this season that whatever is thrown at this squad they find a way to overcome it and I’m sure if there are players missing on Friday those coming in will step up to the plate. Lostock Whites
Michael duff thinks he's got Evatt all sussed out. Let's play a 541, park the buss with Santos as the striker. Randell Williams, constant long balls to the left side and get Williams to take long throw ins all game. Start time wasting 0-0 from the 1st minute and nick it in extra time

Obviously, its what the coaching staff want, but I've never got my head round having no one left up at a corner. Me too, baffles me why you'd want to invite the opposition to all be within 25 yards of your goal. Not only more likelihood of them having a chance to shoot but if its cleared, it often comes straight back at the defending team. The goalies must hate the over crowding of the box making deflections likely/more players throwing themselves at crosses. More teams do it than not so I'll accept it must have its benefits. I've been baffled for years over this. It's the coaching orthodoxy & various managers have defended it but I wonder of their logic. That is that so few goals are scored by the guy up top ... but that's a false plan. His role would be to get, keep or harass the defenders & so prevent a quick return of the ball. Also it requires at least +1 defender & so occupies a couple of opponents.
Not in Crawley
I thought it was because if a team is zonal marking it requires everyone to be back rather than man to man where you can leave player up?
barrycowdrill
No matter how many we had back on Saturday Cadden was stood on the edge of the box with about 20 yards of space on every corner. No surprise he ended up scoring from there

No surprise he ended up scoring from there That tactic has puzzled me for years, and I'm not talking about Bolton here, just when I'm watching a TV game; corner to be taken, invariably 11 back crowding the 6 yard box, 2 attacking players hanging around on the edge. The number of times the ball falls to them and they get a free pot shot is incredible, obviously they don't all result in goals but basically you're saying to international class players, are you good enough to get a decent shot in from 20 yards when unmarked? In L1 the shooting from 20 yards+ is really poor in my experience, so less of an issue in our games, but you see them flying in every week in the top 2 divisions. Then the commentator's wax lyrical about the unbelievable finish, but it looks routine if they are unmarked, would be more worthy of comment if it wasn't at least on target. I can never understand why 99% of MOTD/Sky pundits, never question the (to me) odd tactic of leaving top players unmarked.

The defender Kitching played in that game too, sold to Barnsley in 2021.
Whitesince63
I’m afraid footballs changing, it’s all about statistics now and as has been said, certainly at our level very few of the shots actually result in goals. IE is probably the most statistical manager we’ve ever had and stats are great but sometimes lead down the wrong path. That said, statistics or not Evatt’s done a cracking job so far so I’m more than happy to leave things to him rather than armchair managers like us. 🥴
Traf
Leave two quick lads on the halfway line, they'll have to leave three back, which eases box congestion.
