Basically what the likes of Burton did to us under Evatt. But a great watch. I said something similar during the game... Spain sitting on 1 goal lead into half time and then when they lost a goal couldn't find the final ball... what was the possession by the way? Quote
London Wanderer Posted July 27, 2025 Posted July 27, 2025 Those commentators need to get a grip claiming each save from a shite penalty is world class. Absolutely brilliant win for the lasses. Never gave up when the going got tough throughout. And plenty tournament moments of real quality. Hope they get a world cup. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 27, 2025 Posted July 27, 2025 Some great saves though, and some poor pens. A keeper still has to anticipate where the kick is going to go, and doing so well helps make the saves look easier. From the takers point of view, it seems that many are around "saveable" height, and not into the corners. Quote
Kane57 Posted July 27, 2025 Posted July 27, 2025 Really enjoyed the game. Hope one day we get away from the weird insecure whataboutery of some who can't let themselves enjoy it Quote

If they don't enjoy it as much as say the men's game then that's fine. Why does that automatically make them insecure etc? I disagree with some of the comments, but won't retort to self agrandising condemnation. The game lacks the power and speed of the men's game, but I have enjoyed the commitment and willingness to fight, get the most out of themselves, and never give up. Some quality in there as well. Plenty were happy to take the piss out of the woeful penalties the other week too. Quote
wakey Posted July 27, 2025 Posted July 27, 2025 don't roll about on the floor like the blokes either. Quote

Saying that’s a world class & incredible save for two of shittest penalties I’ve seen is 5 year old stuff. Be plenty other female commentators who’d be a lot better Quote

ianofcleveleys Posted July 28, 2025 Posted July 28, 2025 He had a bit of a point about how we were scrambling through, making it difficult, Sarina leaving it very late to change things etc but he severely and flouncily overegged it. Once such a strong line has been taken in reporting in a tournament, then it turns out as it did last night, humble pie is on the menu and, while maintaining a bit of his earlier thread, his latest report balances things out fairly well I suppose. Once the dust has settled, Sarina's next challenge by the time of the next tournament will be to oversee the evolution of the squad that'll be necessary to keep England at the top table. Some of the future was on view though, with Hampton and Agyemang, so it looks promising. Quote

Some of the future was on view though, with Hampton and Agyemang, so it looks promising. What he ignores however is that Spain were massive favourites last night . England were 7/2 in a two horse race. Spain were clearly the better team but England found a way to win. Against Sweden the first team ever in women’s Euros to come back from 2 goals down in a finals match and win, found a way to win. Against Italy losing going into injury time , found a way to win.   I get he uses the word ‘escapolgists’ but that does not IMO credit enough the way the victory was carved out. His original article was pretty scathing about every aspect of the England team but ultimately the game is all about winning in tournaments and this lot have done that better than any other football team we have churned out. The article on the final is a good read as a stand alone piece but what it lacks is that bit of humble pie about the team written off by ‘experts and journalists’ that have proved them all wrong. Close to £15 million tuning in UK wide- no different to the numbers tuning in to the champions league final in the UK. And people are enjoying the games. It's also attracting new fans who didn't tend to watch the men's game and enjoy a different kind atmosphere at football. The journey of the women's game over the past decade is nothing short of extraordinary. It's just ace seeing girls at work dreaming of playing on this stage. I didn't used to see that. There is nothing 'self aggrandising' (had to google that😂) about pointing out the odd whataboutery in response. I think most on here prefer the intensity and atmosphere at the men's game. But that doesn't stop us enjoying the women's game. Edited July 28, 2025 by London Wanderer Quote

Whitesince63 Posted July 28, 2025 Posted July 28, 2025 Spanish lot are moaning believing they should have won, they were much the better team, had more possession and more chances. Yes but you didn’t take them did you and footballs about attack and defence and whilst you may have been better in attack we were better in defence plus we beat you on penalties so button it you pansies. 🤨 Quote
