perth_white Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I've been able to watch way more of the WWC than I should have due to timezones and happening to be off sick from work for a while. As far as it goes it's been pretty good, some dull games, some good games and some really good performances when the top teams click. Much like a men's world cup really. Also the Australian commentary has blokes alongside women who have distinguished themselves in the sport. No one is saying it's equal in quality to the World Cup but it can equal it in drama, plus some of the players are well fit innit. Quote

desperado Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 Enjoyed seeing Brazil go out at the expense of the Jamaicans. Shame the yanks couldn’t have perished yesterday. Italy out too, to South Africa. Been a few upsets. After a couple of drab games for England, they clicked against China and look one of the best, if not the best side. Very good formation change yesterday to cope without Keira Walsh. Japan the other stand out side for me. That win against Spain was very impressive. Quote

I was agreeing with @Underpants. Thought it was a great post. Some great drama this morning. That South African las who has just lost 3 close family members in a month crying on the pitch was something else. The Jamaica game was dull but made exciting by what was at stake. Incredible defending. They’ve been largely ignored by the Jamaican Football federation so this campaign appears to be a bit of a protest for them. The rate at which the game has improved since the last WC is incredible. Apart from the goalkeeping, that’s as dodgy as ever. Should be a good knockout stage with some more upsets. Interesting what the viewing figures will be between a PL game on TV & WWC quarter final. Either way, the football is starting at 8am and will carry on until 7pm the next couple of Saturdays. Happy days. Quote
Alf Hartigan Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 It's ace. not watched as much as I'd like due to being in work, caught the last 20 mins of the China game whilst on a break. Watched the other England games. A girl at work who is a Bolton fan and really into football said she would rather stick pins in her eyes than watch women's footy. I think she was expecting me to agree but got a shock when I told her that it's ace. And it really is. Quote
London Wanderer Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 That’s the Germans out, ranked second in the world. Beat Morocco 6-0 in the opener and have now been pipped by them to second spot. really didn’t expect to watch much more than the England knockout games later on, but have found these final group games brilliant. Helped by having a week off as the times aren’t ideal for most folk. They even had a Longclit on the panel today, so the gammons will all be delighted. Quote

gonzo Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Was the Jamaica manager bought out of retirement by a plucky member of the team after he was sacked and disgraced decades earlier for cheating at a tournament? Quote

royal white Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Not been watching any of the flat dicks WC but I did come across Panamas first ever World Cup goal. It was a beauty 👏🏻👏🏻 Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 I could never stand the US national team's antics at the previous World Cup I'm delighted they're out Quote
desperado Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 Looking forward to this. Keira Walsh back, which is a nice surprise. And they are staying with WBs, the formation change which worked very well against China 3(+) - 0 I reckon 😊 Quote
Arrested development Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 How that penalty was overturned I'll never know. It was definately a tight call so how there can there be a clear and obvious error ? These VAR officials are fucking useless. Quote

Somehow they turned it around to no foul. It is Nonsense. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Aye, a strange one. The sort we see all the time- was it or wasn't it? Definite nudge, which means that it is a foul. Doesn't mean they're always given, but having been awarded, was there a clear error by the ref to mean overturning the decision? Anyway, anyone's game still. Quote
Farrelli Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Silly thing to do. Going to be a struggle now! Quote
Arrested development Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Best chance would be pens now I think. England can barely string 5 passes together. Quote
Wanderlust Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 That stupid stepping on the defender reminds me of Beckham's petulant kick that let the team and the nation down. Shame because she was our best player and if by some miracle they survive this, James won't be around for the next match. That said, I can't see us getting past Nigeria now. Quote
