So,  back to the subject ,   I can see mr evatt starting Mendes gomes with big vic in this.   They know Dion ain't there and will likely have been preparing for nlundulu.   I just see Mr evatt going for the surprise

Wouldn’t be opposed to it. Think CMG is the sort of player who can provide that bit of magic in a derby game but just think Dan is more used to that role and Evatt will prefer his tactical familiarity over CMGs X-Factor

Would be surprised if CMG didn’t play off the bench though at least

CMG would need to up his game dramatically.

Has had a couple of cameos against tired defences and hasn't done that much to impress.

Yes that’s a fair comment

also Dan for me not sure what his role is though, I do think he will start tomorrow

the name not mentioned is jerome

wouldnt be my choice but i can see evatt making a case for him

Bit harsh on Liam Gordon , cant remember him ever letting us down and he had that horror injury that was a hairs breadth from taking  his leg .

Was told after that  hed be lucky if he didnt spend the rest of his life on crutches let alone play again

Injury aside - that could have happened to anyone and my comment was about his footballing ability - I don't think it was particularly harsh. When he arrived, I was thrilled as we were desperate for some pace down the wing....and then I saw his passing, tackling and control and I knew we were in trouble.

Undoubtedly a trier, but just not good enough unfortunately.

One aspect of the game that will be crucial tomorrow is the battle for possession now that Maloney is trying to get Wigan to play football. If they can control possession they have the strikers to do the damage. Our system is to some degree dependent on keeping possession so that we can leave Rico in the big open spaces that suit him so well and push everyone else forward. We have to win that battle and everything else will flow from there. First goal will have a big impact on how that goes.

Unfortunately my friend us tin pots keep climbing back out of the box...on this match I'm kind of being pragmatic. I've been upto your place and seen us win a few and lose a few but my biggest fear is this match is a bit too soon for a collection of young lads. Dont get me wrong they have the talent just not a lot of experience.

In our favour is that I keep hearing the word anxious not least about the result 2 years ago..." anxious to right the the wrongs " etc....

Anxiety is good to hear and maybe a weapon.

My expectation is low for the reasons stated but hope springs eternal that your trepidation stops you performing to your best. I do believe you have more riding on this than us as we are just dusting ourselves down again and starting a new chapter. You are looking at promotion,  we at clawing this deficit back and survival .

Should be clearer tomorrow afternoon one way or tuther.

Nice to have opposition fans on who want to debate and contribute, rather than being silly.

We usually fare much better against sides that come and try to play the same way as us, especially at home (See Sunderland).

Where we've struggled against teams in the past is when they sit deep and get physical, which is why we've been done by these lot in the past and struggled against the likes of Barnsley and others. So, hopefully they do show up and try to play a bit, I'd back our midfield and wing backs to thrive if that's the case.

Games have been won when subs have been coming on.

Not always easy to shine, if the team as a whole is just managing time.

I'd back our midfield too although Wigan have some decent young talent there - but they are strong and physical at the back which is why I think the first goal is important. Maybe Rubberkex can provide us with a SWOT analysis of his team?

Sheehan is much improved. Santos and Johnston never really worked that well in a back 4.

Similarly I also don’t think Sheehan is capable in a midfield two, and we get overrun when that’s been the case.
Used to think the same about Mark Davies under Coyle.

In a midfield three he’s great; keeps things ticking over all the time and has a lot more freedom to play his game.

The anxiety is purely with us fans who witnessed the 0-4 hammering a couple of years ago, not the players. We have an almost entirely different squad now, that are currently firing on all cylinders. They'll not be affected by anxiety over that game.

Their first goal came from a catastrophic back header from Bakayoko and I think their 2nd or 3rd goal could've easily been prevented by pillo fist Dixon in goal.

A freak game but also with a much weaker more mistake heavy team.

Absolutely. That's my point, all a bit mixed up.

I can't work out why Evatt has been fined- either the card was rescinded, and therefore no action (surely?) or it wasn't.

He didn't get a yellow, and now no red, so what is the fine for?

Clear as mud, but he seems happy enough to let it go.

In fairness, it's also good that the officials and managers can talk and iron things out.

For Manager's the suspensions are discretionary and not part of the red card formalities

You can be ejected from the game without any further suspension

I'd rather Dan start and be taken off in the second half if he's not doing it. I think mendes gomes off the bench is more useful than Dan off the bench if we are in need of a change.

We had ten men when he played midweek so the opportunity to impress was hampered. I’d play him as he looks like a big game player

He, himself, said this week wtte that "I'm getting fitter all the time" suggesting he realises he's still developing his match fitness. He'll come good, I have no doubt, but he's being fed in slowly.

Bakayoko was shocking that day, dunno if it was becauase he was playing out of position but he didn't really look to be trying and left Brockbank totally exposed who went on to have a shocker as well

Now I've looked SWOT up I'll give it a go...

Young Goalie Tickle...Good lad but seems a bit iffy on crosses.

Back 4 good ball players all...Clare on right comfortable and will try to get forward as will Pearce who will whip crosses in at every opportunity ( just hope he gets some )

2 lads at back Hughes and Morrison have big futures in front of them.

Midfield...I expect Smith ( who is a sublime talent ) and Adeeko ( who is also very good but prone to a loss of concentration  )to start in the middle with Callam Mac on the left ( past his best unfortunately  ) and big Humphrys on the right who will do a couple of step overs to get on his left peg and whip a shot in. He won't pass so expect said shots.

Lang will play behind Wyke and is tricky but flatters to deceive at times. Big Charlie will lead the line and will do it well but needs help of Lang .

Reet, that's my last post on here until post match when I will make 1 more. I won't hide if beaten and won't crow if we win...I will tell it like I see it no matter what happens.

Wigan would be 4th and 2 points behind us if it wasn’t for the points deduction so hardly looking up that far, although I don’t think that paints the full picture, we look as good as I’ve seen us for over a decade, we’ve threats all over the pitch, a strong bench which includes game changers like Gomes, the back 3 looks particularly strong, midfield likewise probably best midfielder in the league in Dempsey and I do hope Bod returns alongside Victor, if Wigan get something out of this game I’ll doff my cap to them.

I’d doff mine too MK but I don’t expect to need to. I accept they would be a couple of points behind us without the points deduction but whilst we’ve gained our points comfortably you can hardly say that for Wigan. Derby were by all accounts dreadful, still are and made two stupid mistakes for Wigans goals and they were more than a little fortunate against Northampton. We will see tomorrow but I just think that right now we’re a much better team and should comfortably see off a new and inexperienced Wigan side. No guarantees obviously and a big crowd could affect things but that aside I think we’ll be too strong for them.

I agree and I shouldn’t have labelled Wigan tin pot so apologies Rubber I went too far. I still expect us to win just because as you admit we’re further on than you are just now but I’m looking forward to a cracking game and atmosphere but I have to say also getting one back on you. 🤗

Head says 3-1

Heart says 7-0

Just a reminder that, like most clubs these have their share of morons, but theirs seem to have form for concentrating on easy targets.

:)

I usually go on opposition forums before the game and ask them for the same and give my view on our lot - not that the clubs haven't extensively researched and done their own opposition analysis already but it's good to have a fans eye view - for which I thank you. First time in donkey's years anyone's fessed up to having to look SWOT analysis up though :)

Just goes to show that every club has reasonable and realistic fans - well done that man!

Poor lad was a centre half as well, up against one of the best players in the league. Think he got a bit of grief on social media which was totally unwarranted.

Anyone know if match buses got let off first against Lincoln?

Last time I used it it took 1hr30 to get to Tyldesley
