The netting is around 6 seats wide and 24 rows plus any seats between net and ESL fence so I’d go 300 seats in SSL and same in WSL.

So if we went with the razor wire and electric fence we could probably regain 200 of those?

here is actual proof that RMI once played Wigan in a competitive match*

At the time Horwich where the bigger club; would still have been if they hadn’t folded.

remember going to Springfield Park to watch them in the cup against Tranmere and loads of Bolton there supporting these minnows

probably Sluffy then

Doubt it. He'd be telling them their future based on last year's Companies House return or his interpretation of the legal ramifications of ground-sharing with a rugby club - he doesn't really do football.

Irony is that two years after this the EFL (including us?) voted them into the Football League at the expense of Southport.

And the fact that Wigan didn't exist as a league team prior to 1978 is why older folk don't think of them as rivals - most WIganers supported Bolton back then.

Wish we could vote them out

When asked what kind of reception he's expecting from the fans who once cheered him, Magennis – who scored seven times in 45 Bolton appearance in 2018/19 – replied: "Probably frosty!

"But no, football's all about emotion.

"If that's how it's going to be, that's how it will be.

"Whatever the reception, I'm thick-skinned, I've been in the game a long time, I can take it.

"Hopefully the performance will do our talking over the shouts in the crowd.

Not sure we have ever cheered him - useless bastard

Obviously nervous, but aren't these the games you wish for? We're top of the league, playing football we could've dreamed of a few years ago. Everything going well at the club in the right direction, no problems or issues, near sell out against our local rivals. This is why we follow football!

Yes one year ago we would have given anything to be level with Wigan in the table never mind being 23 places above them.  2 years ago we would have given a lot just to be able to keep on their coat tails as they waltzed away with the league and we were mid table.  3 years ago I would have given anything just to be allowed back in the ground to watch us lose to FGR, Newport and Oldham!  4 years ago we just wanted a team to support and then to maybe not lose 5-0 every week.  A bit of perspective called for should we fail to win on Saturday.

I find that a bit hard to believe?  Wigan always seemed to be one of the best supported non league clubs in the 60s and 70s, and averaged 6k plus in their first couple of years in the football league.  I can't claim to know how many RMI used to get but looking at Grundy Hill I'd be surprised if they regularly got more than 2k??

On another note, one of my sports teachers at College, Les Rigby, managed both RMI and Wigan in the 70s to 80s (as well as Chorley and Morecambe amongst others) and when I knew him he never mentioned it once, I only realised I'd been "coached" by a non league legend many years later.  I'd no idea he had a bit of pedigree in the game, maybe I should have paid more attention.

It’s natural to sometimes worry about things you really shouldn’t and I feel Wiggin on Saturday is one of those. They are nowhere near their team of two years ago and this season we are massively in front of where we were. There’s no reason why we won’t play just as well on Saturday as we have in our previous games and enjoy the same result. Ok Dion missing will be a setback but the strength of our squad should make up for that. I just don’t see the pies young and largely inexperienced defence being capable of stopping us down both flanks and our attacking midfield if we just play as we have done so far. Wyke may be a problem but that’s for Rico to sort out and I’m sure he will so a fourth league win for the Whites and still top of the pile come Saturday afternoon.

I used to go in the 80s as a kid

I can't remember the types of crowds they got in terms of exact numbers, but I'd be surprised if it was more than 200, it was always pretty dead as i recall

one or two big games in the non league cup when around 1k turned up, but that was it

God I was joking FFS - not a clue what Horwich RMI got but no more than a couple of hundred

Sounds like the ref has admitted he was wrong. Evatt respects him for talking it through and listening and is happy to move on:

IAN Evatt WILL be on the touchline in Saturday’s game against Wigan Athletic after the Football Association opted not to suspend him for his midweek red card against Fleetwood.

The Bolton boss has been hit by a £1,000 fine for the “mis-use of technology” – but had a video call with referee Tom Nield and Select Group Two chief Kevin Friend at lunchtime to go over the details of the incident.

Dion Charles will miss the Wigan game, with Wanderers having no recourse to challenge his second yellow card. But Evatt – who became the first manager to be dismissed for the six-year-old rule on the use of electronic communication - hopes his example will stop other managers being hit in the pocket.

“What it has done, for all managers, because I had many of them contact me yesterday and say they didn’t even know it existed, is raised awareness that we are not allowed to mention video at any time,” he said.

“As Pete (Atherton) said for me on Tuesday there was no abuse, no aggression, I literally made reference to the video and it was a rule that none of us were aware of, so if anything, all us managers now know we are not allowed to do that in games.”

He added: “I have become the poster boy for the ‘mis-use of technology – but I am very, very supportive of what the referees are trying to do. I actually have great respect for Tom (Nield) for facing me, facing the music, and being honest and open enough to say he got things wrong.

“We had a great discussion and there is an awful lot of respect there so I think we can all move on now. We wish him well.”

Evatt is looking forward to welcoming Wigan back to the stadium for the first time since October 2021 when his side were dealt an unexpected 4-0 defeat.

“It’s exciting – a great opportunity to right some wrongs,” he said.

“It is a great chance to keep the momentum going and make sure that we keep performing in the same way because when we do, we’re a handful.

“This is obviously huge for us, for the club, for the fans, and for us it is really just focussing not so much on them but the process of a good performance. If we perform well then I think we can win the game

Your memory seems to have exaggerated early attendances? Easily done.

I'm a touch confused: is he saying it is a red offence, but no one knew about it, or that it isn't, but it is a fine?

If the former then I dont see how the ref made a technical mistake and got it wrong.

If it isn't a red, then how is it a fining issue?

It was an offence and Evatt acknowledged it, but an offence that managers weren't particularly aware of - so he pleaded ignorance and the red card was commuted to a fine after he sucked up to the authorities.

That said, I don't know if it's such an uncommon offence that nobody knew about it or the ref was prejudicial in applying it.

In which case, as I said, the ref didn't make a mistake as he claims. Which is why I'm a touch confused.

Other mistakes, not necessarily that incident?

The ref was poor overall but seemed to be well aware of the technology rule as must have been the 4th official to bring it to the refs attention but clearly he overreacted with the red card which has now been rescinded. Whilst he got a lot wrong during the match though it appears he was technically correct with both decisions on IE and Dion, assuming of course it was for verbals by Dion, which we still don’t really know?

Ref admitted he made a mistake giving Dion a second yellow. You can appeal a straight red (IE) card but can’t do anything about two yellows.
