Not if the polarised engagement on here is anything to by

I hadn't even thought about it till coming here but it seems like it's worth a punt

And if we don't like it, we'd come back, nothing to lose

It might even not happen yet

In the mean time

Cheers

I wouldn't take on here as a snapshot of the UK at large personally. I mean folk argue about your and you're on here

Nice beach holiday - can't say I'd want that all the time, personally. Actually, don't even really want that from a holiday normally. Each to their own. Enjoy your break!

If I lived here I'd be more interested in the bush, so to speak, and what that has to offer over a beach

One of the highlights here was GOMA

In fact most of the highlights for me have been inland

There's more to Oz than beach

Oh yeah - totally understand that, as I say I'm not really qualified to comment as I've never been but only to say its not something I would want to do in terms of moving my whole life over there.

Plus that middle bit is a bit - well, empty for my liking. If I was ever to move out of the UK, it's either Paris or Berlin which could tempt me - Berlin specifically.

Anyway, not going to happen so best keep planning for my move back up North (or maybe Glasgow) when the kids are old enough.

Australia is about the same size as the US. 90% uninhabitable though.

Uninhabitable or uninhabited? Have you ever been to Las Vegas? It really is in the middle of a big desert. Uninhabitable until someone thought to open gambling dens to take money from the gold miners. Then air conditioning was invented and the place thrives.

Think water is more important, there's no Colorado River in Oz.

Know a couple of people who moved there and it sounds pretty much perfect.

You have to choose an AFL team apparently or they don’t let you live there though.

And you have to have a mullet and a selection of wifebeater vests

Reminiscent of a slide I produced for some Yankee management crowd who came out here when I was managing WA for a large and well known US gear manufacturer.

They used to have stuff sent to me in Perth in DHL bags and ask "Can you hand this/these to Rocky when you see him please".

Rocky was based in Brisbane and ran Queensland for them. I sent a note back once saying "OK, I will see him next at the Januarys International Sales Conference in Cancun. I'll hand it to him then". They were not amused :D

They were utterly gobsmacked when we superimposed the outline of Australia over that of the USA.

Yep. Some of the major city suburbs are further from the coast than say Bolton. In Aussie terms, anyone in the UK is near the beach.

Fuck Me is it that big

Draw a line down from just to the left of Darwin to the south coast. That is pretty much WA. Fly 2.5 hours, see a key customer, drive 4.5 hours north see another 3. Sleep overnight, drive another 3 hours see 4 more customers. Drive 4 hours south see 3 more. 2 hours flight back to Perth.

My regular Pilbara trip generating up to $25 million in sales per annum plus another $10 million in service work at around 45%GP.

"Most of it is empty". Correct if you mean people. Incorrect when you consider the massive resources.

I attended an info session with the worlds second biggest miner who, during their presentation, stated that at the current rate of production, they had at least another 330 years worth of iron ore in their reserves.

That same miner recently announced this which has 'put the wind up' many of the producers down here as well as the state government.
