  • Might be an idea to let's just watch a football match without all this attention seeking bumcbuffery.

while our captain and best defender in the league, our rolls royce, deletes his account

Nothing that Aaron or Dion could have done. Nobody passed to them. Zero service. Messi and Haaland would have not have scored either with that shocking midfield service.

Wondered why didn't have flags on the seats and stuff. Just added to the flatness.

FWIW I thought the fans seemed up for it pre-match in terms of trying to create an atmosphere/singing actual songs (more so than Oxford, as predicted) but the loud music that had absolutely nothing to do with football or either club drowned the whole thing out.  Really pisses me off that, its the same at home games to a lesser extent.

Fighting a losing battle trying to get songs going with that racket, then it felt like the momentum and atmosphere disappeared when Maghoma was being treated.  From enthusiastic optimism at kick off, to "this isn't going to be our day" in 1 minute is how it felt.

Everyone I've spoken to today has been full of sympathy and "you just didn't turn did you"

Prefer it when everyone hates us.

Same here Wigan fan at work sympathised said the same about the team what a disgrace look like they didn’t care and after fans had travelled and spent quite a bit of money as he said Evatt needs to go and take a few players with him.

Watching the highlights on EFL show.

Doesn't get any better, just thankfully shorter.

They had so much space in midfield, especially first half.

If teams effectively stop us playing through them, this formation offers fuck all defensively.

I’ve waited for the dust to settle before giving my take on here. Bitterly disappointed with the result and performance but I am forcing myself to look at it pragmatically and I have been telling myself:

“if it’s not our time to go up, then it’s not our time - we will get there eventually.”

That’s my way of coping with it for now rather than anger at any individual(s).

I think we came with a gameplan of having Santos and Toal dwell on the ball. The hope being that it would invite Oxford to press us and then try and play through them with our quality of passing.

Unfortunately Oxford did not intend to press us in our half. They sat patiently marking our passing options, leaving Santos, Toal and Jones looking clueless for the entire first half. Any time we did get up to the half way line, they aggressively pressed us and succeeded in winning every challenge and second ball.

Second half we looked to try and play forward more but the damage had already been done and we played into Oxfords hands as they hit us repeatedly on the counter and we were probably fortunate to not be embarrassed further by losing by 3 or 4 goals. We did not lay a glove on them in truth and the fans had very little to cheer, or use to try and rally the players.

The fact we ended up chasing the game with Cogley playing LWB, Jones RWB, and Collins in attacking midfield smacked of Evatt desperately trying to figure something out on the spot and nothing worked. Our final ball was poor all game, our set pieces utterly shite and it seemed like we could’ve played all night and not scored.

The fallout since then has been predictable. Fingers pointed and explanations sought but the bottom line is we have not been good enough this season. We have fallen at several hurdles and missed many chances to take our destiny into our own hands and Saturday was a summation of this seasons failings.

There can be no excuses we had more than enough budget, quality and stability to go up, injuries or not. The season is a failure. Evatt and the board has to accept that and find a solution. This is not an easy division and it has taken clubs our size and bigger more time to get out of it. But it does not mask the fact that we failed to get the job done when we should have done much better.

Expensive doo is 500 to not see one shot on target in 99 mins. Easily stifled just from Sheehan being froze out the game, we've seen that same performance quite a lot under Evatt the past few seasons.

I'm consoling myself with the thought that it'd be fuckn grim in the championship with Evatt in charge.

Despite all the positives off the pitch (support, ownership etc) we've not really had sustained momentum on it since second half of league 2 season.

Was talking to my missus last night about the money side of things. I did not go as had a knee operation but the day for me would have been £200 plus.

With 30,000 there , with coaches at £50 per seat and even with kids tickets I reckon minimum spend per head would be about £100, so we are looking at our fans spending £3m for Saturday between them. A lot of fucking money !

Dear ‘every L1 team in the 24/25 season’,

If you wait until our wingbacks are more wing than back, dink a long ball out wide to one of your players with a bit of pace and there you go; goal.
I think that message must be getting through to our opponents by now so why can’t those in charge see the major weakness?

The flags did arrive but couldn't be used. Knowing what happened, I'd say it was a supplier issue rather than another stick to beat the club with.

I was wondering if the fact Oxford didn’t have flags was a major factor.

And in any case, do we think having a flag would’ve helped?

We had a white flag. 😡

Some of them held up yellow cards

Not related to Oxford not having flags, but due to them not meeting some H and S criteria. Without digging people out, the club couldn't have known this (I don't think) until they arrived.

Of course, players performance isn't remotely affected by the existence of flags anyway.

To be fair, if they failed H&S checks, then the club will get their money back, unless of course they didn't specify the requirements ?

Or wembley invented new regulations in the last 10 days ?

Watched a bit. Surprised Maghoma lasted as long as he did. Looked like he proper fucked his ankle in the first minute

cost me £550 for me and my boy from Cumbria by the time we paid for tickets, hotel and train, drinks etc.
And to add insult to injury the fooking train home was cancelled in the morning!!

I said to my boy during the warmup that I had a bad feeling, as the Bolton side looked so lethargic and the body language just didn't look right, mind that said I wasn't expecting that performance!!!

Not sure if many people noticed, but on the final whistle there was only Dempsey who was straight over to shake hands with the Oxford players, has to be future captain for me, was still magnanimous even after that defeat.

In regards to Evatt and coaching team - I've no idea if he will stay or resign, but very much doubt the BOD will sack him, I'm sure we will find out either way in the next few days as they will want to draw a line under this as quickly as possible.

starting to become an issue

the manager and now two players have come out and said they can't understand what happened

If they’d come up to my seat I’d have told them. Same as every other Bolton fan.

We were shit and shit scared.

That picture of Santos is the most telling picture in Boltons history. I keep looking at it and doesn’t get any better.

Did we get them from Michelle Mone ?

At least him and Collins have had the balls to come out and say something.

Probably the two least to blame as well.

The silence from our club captain is deafening.

The damage was done before Iredale came on. Toal for all his strengths playing on the left of the 3 is a terrible idea. He naturally comes back inside to Santos/Sheehan every time.

Think Iredale and obviously Johnston makes us much less lopsided.

Doesn't solve all our issues but just another tactical misstep.

I was just thinking what a house of cards our playing style is.

As soon as they cut off the short pass up the middle (Sheehan) the rest didn’t know what to do. They should have been working their socks off to provide other options but they seemed fixated in adopting their usual positions so no initiative was taken and no ad lib runs were made - leaving Santos and Toal  stood there looking daft. It was as if they were at a bus stop waiting for a bus that had broken down in the depot.

Take one card from the bottom and the whole stack comes down.
