Graham Turnip. Hounded out. Woy.Ā Sven & the fake Sheik. The papers like Southgate, so he has had an easy ride from them. The flack has come from fans. Quote

They had David James mocked up as a donkey during a tournament once. We had Beckham swinging from lampposts and stupid boy headlines after 98. It's been a walk in the park for Southgate. First sign of grief for any of em was this tournament and they all moaned like big girls blouses. Quote

Ā Aye, the old school media have been mild as fuck given some of the dog shit displays they served up. You know damn well most of them would have been on social media reading what Dave9124 thinks. Ā Ā So we are yet to beat a proper top team in a knockout game away from Wembley, that's fairly damning.Ā Ā And yes its so difficult to fail to qualify now that we are a top seed, I can remember us having Italy at least twice in our qualifying group (1978 and then under Hoddle).Ā Germany have been in our group twice IIRC Also the famous one under Graham Taylor v Holland - no chance they'd be in our qualifying group now.Ā At Euro 92, when Sweden put us out, there were only 8 teams and our group contained France, Denmark and the hosts Sweden, not an easy game amongst them.Ā Difficult to compare eras now that its so easy to qualify not only for the tournaments but also for the knockout stages.Ā With the odd exception (our Iceland defeat etc), I don't see any improvement, as you say we still lose when it gets to the tougher games and we still do just enough against the rest.
