Really is a big game this.

Heading to the abyss of the season this is where we really do need to make a statement and start kicking on.

 

Strange game. We were generally terrible, yet had enough simple chances to have scored 4 or 5.

Gale was absolutely awful, yet scored a good goal and should have had an assist to his name in the first half.

Can anyone explain why the ref changed his mind when he gave us a free kick for their keeper handling the pass back to him??

Listening on the wireless McGinlay said it looked like the ref had someone advising him in his earpiece as he didnt appear to know the rules 😀

Odd. Looked to me like he got the decision right but then changed his mind.

I think, because the keeper genuinely tried to clear it, he was actually allowed to punch it thereafter. I assume the ref blew but was then told he had got it wrong so could only give them a drop ball as it was in the box??. Hence him talking to Toal.

Unsure why, if it was a genuine mistake it wasn't just a contested drop ball though, no idea why he just gave it back to them??

I think there's been a recent rule change where the goalkeeper can handle it if they've tried to kick it back into play, but he gave us a free kick first before realising so had to correct it

Seems the standard thing now- if the ref has made a mistake, then give it to the team that had it. Seems fair enough.

A turgid display and we were lucky to get 3  points, had Bonham been 'bought', some truly awful kicking, however, gladly accept the  3 points and move on to Tuesday

Just back and the 3 points are very welcome.Performance wise we were shite.What is it with us that we have to go backwards to slowly go forward,Toal for some reason has turned into a poor Santos,a few times he had a simple forward pass to Christie who had acres of space but decided to turn back and play it backwards

Sat in’t posh seats today and you get to see close up how much shit the 4th assistant and ref gets. How the fuck do so many mangers and assistants get away with it? Wellens should have been sent off before half time as should his assistant. You see it every game on TV week in week out. The FA push all this respect bollocks but hardly ever act on it. 
 

Anyway shit game but massive 3 points. 

Grim game but 7 points out of 9. Make it 10 out of 12 on Tuesday and get back on a roll 

Saw McAtee starting, thought fine, give him the benefit of the doubt and all that.
 

Two minutes in, ball played up to him, he just runs looking at the defender and the ball hits him on the back of the head. 

Aye he’s still fucking useless.

Could have summed it up any better. 

No idea really what happened.

We didn't deserve to win.

A draw would've been shit.

We didn't deserve to lose either.

Just a really really bad game of football between two league 1 football teams.

Found a way to win though. Same thing Wrexham did all last season and Derby the season before.

You miss my point.

Mathematically it would be almost impossible for one man to have such an effect.

If he had been playing, the passes to him would have been equally as bad.

Even if the passes he made were 100% accurate, it wouldn't make up for the others' lack of quality. 

A reflection of a poor overall performance. 

That may have been as a result of poor preparation for the tactics that Wellens would adopt, who knows.

This is the season we need to get out of this league. If we can’t get out this time, we’ll struggle when there are some decent teams dropping down from above.

It was like the players forgot how to pass a ball, or make a run either.

Usual appalling refereeing and somehow we scraped a win.

Bobbins but we must improve for the next game.

Didn’t like the idea of changing formation and it proved to be a poor decision.

I don’t get the idea that it’s a more defensive set up - I know you have a 3rd centre back, but you get 2 up front. We haven’t got the players to play through the lines to a centre forward who is making runs off the shoulder. We’ve got a big man who’s showing more and more that he’s an effective target man, and so playing off him with a 2nd striker and runners from midfield is far more effective.

Add to that that most of our players are more suited in a 352.

Tutu and Conway are better wing backs than full backs (I actually don’t think either are even half decent at full back so it’s not hard)

Toal and GJ are shaky as fuck in a two - put Forino in the middle of them and it properly looks solid.

McAtee isn’t a 10, nor is Burstow. They’re better in a front 2

Dalby is getting better and better, he’s causing problems and winning flick ons - funnily enough he looks better with a strike partner alongside him.

The centre mids look more balanced, Erhahon went from having a poor game to having a really good last 25 mins - might be coincidence but the formation change helped.

Dempsey and Morley are better in the 8 role.

The players that lose out are ACD and Gale. One looks like he could now be out for a while and the other was really poor today (seems mad when he scored a good goal). They are great options to have but it’s got to be 352 home and away from now on - if we start with the same formation on Tuesday I genuinely wonder what SS has been watching over the past few games.

Other than that.
Great 3 points, results went for us, we’re 3rd, Burstow scored (I was dying for Morley to have it), Dalby is effective when utilised properly, Wellens is a cock, it was fucking freezing and our ball boys are useless.

Do you push the boat to get out of this shite league or try and do it on the cheap, knowing you'll need further replacements in the summer? Guess that's the quandary

When we were up against Derby, I was sure we were the better footballing side, and I recall their fans arguing with players about how shit they were around this time of the season

I'm not one for papering over cracks, I'm not convinced we have it in us to do what it takes

But after 5 years of seeing what can get promotion in this league, I know for sure it's not about playing good football every week 

Played awful at times but as we all know the 3 points is all that matters and is massive, particularly today with others dropping points.

I sit right behind Schuey and he was getting sooo frustrated at the team and individuals who just looked like they never played before.

To me it just reinforced the fact that although Schuey hasn't been perfect for sure, the mistakes and lack of ability from individuals has ultimately been our downfall this season.

I am very confident that if and when we get players in, they can hopefully be the well needed boost we need. 

I'm not going to say anything more on McAtee other than he's not good enough, simple. 

The defence has been solid pretty much all season and it has been the attack that has let us down.

This period we are in I believe will genuinely define our season. Offloaded the deadwood, stopped the rot and winning games again. Got another huge winnable game at home on Tuesday, whilst our rivals also have games against each other. And also, we will see what players we will bring in.

This next week is massive and if we strengthen the attack that I know we will and keep building momentum with more wins, 2nd place is really on. 

Let's not waste this chance now please whites.  

Ps, Dalby has truly come into his own now, without even scoring. His hold up and link up play is not just good, I would say it's of a high level. We just need intelligent players now playing off him. Man of the Match for the past few games for me.

Dalby did ok struggling for anyone else.

Will leave the over analysis and tactics to others. 

There was only one person taking that pen. Love that in a striker.

The less said about that performance the better. 3 points and onto fucking Burton.

So many poor performances throughout the team today, but Dalby doesn’t half work hard for the team. Won loads of headers/flick ons, but pointless when McAtee is 30m away pointing at people and complaining when he’s just passed the ball behind them and out for a throw. Fucking shithouse, that was his last chance today, fuck him back off to Barnsley.
