gudnisson Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 There are two threads currently up and running which don't make sense to me. First thread: Who will get relegated this season? Most contributors have stated that they don't care who it is as long as it's not Bolton. Second thread: Renewing season tickets? Some of the same contributors admit they may not bother next season for various reasons. Here is my question to people who have posted on these threads: Why are you concerned if we stop up in the Premier if you can't really be bothered going regularly anyway next season? Just wondered.

A fair point, but on the season ticket thread, 3 people are saying they are thinking of stopping, and 2 are saying they are thinking of starting going again. I am glad no one has yet said 'I will renew if we stay up.'
Carlos Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I think you are making the mistake of assuming that people who stop buying season tickets actually stop going regularly and that possessing a ST is some kind of badge of honour which makes you a superior "fan".

To be honest the season ticket thread doesnt really mention what division we are in, its all about if people enjoy the football on show and the day out. Edited April 30, 2009 by tylswhite

mickbrown Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Some people my just be questioning what is in it for them as a season ticket holder. Having a season ticket didn't even guarantee a ticket for the cup final. I always miss a couple of matches a season, through holidays etc. Then the club will do their special deals now and again and bang, as a season ticket holder I'm out of pocket.
Traf Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 It tends to work out cheaper not having a season ticket. You miss the odd game, you get the odd cheap offer from the club and sometimes you can pick a freebie up (off here or off a mate who can't go). And cash in the pocket is better than a teamcard.
no balls Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I filled out the questionnaire and & in the season ticket section they asked about how we'd feel about a season ticket where you can take a couple of games off a season and be re-imbursed. I thought it a good idea.

All of the above is applicable to myself...although I think I'm just about over not getting a cup final ticket through the club now... But honestly, I just don't look forward to it like I used to or enjoy it as much...it feels like a chore So if I pick and choose my home games, I may enjoy them like I do the away games???

Traf Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 You get a nice piece of plastic to show you're a proper fan.

Casino Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 ahh, its another thing that the season ends much quicker these days its cos my book of tickets doesn't get thinner once we get past christmas i think maybe its cos we have less games than in the good old days
Traf Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 This will have been the least number of games in a season for a good while I'd say.
Zico Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 i appreciate all the reasons not too and i have been thinking about them of late but if i don't go a) i have to find other ways of filling every other saturday - I don't want to have to rely on SSNews all the time and I don't want to spend more than I would going to the footy i won't be able to take my washing to my mum's and as i've found out, it doesn't do itself whilst I can keep whacking STs on interest frees I'll probably renew one day I'll get a shock when I open my credit card bill mind, up until now, I don't open them

I think that is a stupid question you have asked. Even though I might not be renewing my season ticket next year, I still want my club to be doing well.
colditz Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 This will have been the least number of games in a season for a good while I'd say. Its the least number of matches we have played since 1912/13 season if my memory serves me right

gudnisson Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 I think that is a stupid question you have asked. Even though I might not be renewing my season ticket next year, I still want my club to be doing well. You might say that but if everyone took your attitude there would be an empty stadium and how long do you think that is sustainable in the Premier league? For what its worth I think Bolton's fan drain is due to too much TV football and our vicinity to Manchester. My point is that if you care about your team you go and support them. As you say, you still want your team to do well, but if all that you physically do is watch MOTD how much use are you?
Sweep Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 You might say that but if everyone took your attitude there would be an empty stadium and how long do you think that is sustainable in the Premier league? In answer to that point, a football club could easily survive in the PL at the minute with a half empty stadium, they could survive playing behind closed doors if they had to, whilst they are getting c?35M per season from Sky
gudnisson Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 In answer to that point, a football club could easily survive in the PL at the minute with a half empty stadium, they could survive playing behind closed doors if they had to, whilst they are getting c?35M per season from Sky In the short term you are probably right. However, long term you wouldn't have a fan base, good players would not want to play for you and the fans of tomorrow would not be there to pick up the pieces when Sky bugger off!
Ghana White Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If you care about your team you go and watch them?? So people who have been made unemployed in the credit crunch or have young families and can think of better things to spend money on don't care about the team anymore? I've got a season ticket, I'll probably renew but to be honest I'm bored out of my mind at the match most of the time and enjoy what surrounds the game much more. I miss 4 or 5 games a season through work...I'll probably renew but on the ace of it, it doesn't make much sense too. I'd love to just do local away games really and give the Reebok a miss
LodgeMorrWhite Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 A season ticket with an option to sell back two games a year would be a great idea. Maybe an incentive such as free travel to away games for ST holders could also be considered in the future. Im all in favour of the reduced price games and the club has certainly offered the fans some good deals in the last couple of Seasons. I wonder whether the club would be able to negotiate reduced prices for some of the North West rivals. The price matching for the Blackburn game was a huge success. I thought Blackburn away was the best atmosphere (from the away end) I have been to this year. It would be great if the ?15 deal could be struck with City and Wigan as well.

Not many have given financial reasons for not bothering in this thread, but, that is obviously going to come into it. Most, like yourself are bored or apathetic. I don't really want to get into that argument really. This thread is about people who say they care (we must not go down) but then in the next thread are saying they can't be arsed going next season. Sentiments that to me are completely at odds with each other!
