leigh white Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Just looking through the Rothmans yearbook for the match attendance, its down as 48000, i thought it was a lock out, anyway further checking in the day to day diary, it gives the attendance as 54032 which sounds about right. The return match drew 50413 at Burnden Park.
Traf Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Nigel Shepperd agrees with the 54,032 and the 50,413.
SpiritofBurnden Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 That semi-final was apparently the highest ever attendance at Goodison for a League Cup game: http://evertonresults.com/highlcatts.htm I didn't realise that the final went to a second replay.

The return match drew 50413 at Burnden Park. After the game at Burnden we got back to Athy and there were abot 8 or 9 scousers in the Kings Head singing their heads off, they soon came outside when we started smashing their cars headlights, we had a reet good 'do' with 'um until the police came and fucked us off, they were whinging like bitches because we had damaged their cars, cunts.
TrickyTrotter Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Don't know how many fans we took for Goodison, but hard to park miles away from the ground and couldn't find our van after the match - no it hadn't been knicked! Didn't the floodlights at Burnden fail for 2nd leg?
Casino Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 they did, just as everton took a penalty, which i think they missed think roy greaves miised a late chance from a yard was in the seats behind the goal at goodison when whatmore scored if i had a regret, it was never hearing the radio2 commentary apparently the bloke went berserk
victor meldrew Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 was in the top tier of the main stand that night, i'm sure it was snowing up there. plus a big black bloke waving a machette outside the main stand after the game. pikey bastards.
bolty58 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Great memories. I was in the top tier of the big stand at Goodison too. Burnden Paddock heaving for the second leg. Few scousers in but they didn't make a sound
athywhite1958 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 We were in't Gwladys Street when Whatmore equalised, I'd have given anything to have been him that night.

Barnstoneworth White Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 In the return leg I found myself of the front row of the Embankment. At the final whistle the crowd surged forward. I got crushed right up against the wooden fence. I'll swear that it started to bend. Must admit it was a bit scary.
Mounts Kipper Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 We took 12,000 to goodison, did not stop the scousers from attacking 13 year old kids.
MickyD Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Was on embankment for 2nd leg when floodlight started sparking. Was praying for a total failure. I'm guessing we were already one down.
chief wiggum Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I was with th'owd mon on the Manny Road Terrace. I was nine. I cried all night..
athywhite1958 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 (edited) There was all sorts of shite being thrown at each other that night across the embankment, IIRC there was a huge bunch of keys with sharpened edges and a fluorescent tube flying about, as well as coins etc. We were in the Burnden terrace wishing we had gone in the embankment. Hang on a minute, everscum had the whole embankment.
MickyD Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Oh no they didn't. In fact i'm thinking they had the half which was traditionally the home half (nearest Manny Road) although the advancing years may be affecting my memory.

Pablo Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Well said Pablo Can I have a + please ??? On that note, why did Happy take away '-' vote's ?? I was made up racking up my negative numbers.

Back then Radio 2 only had commentary on the second half of one game every Saturday afternoon so it was a bit surreal to hear our game that night. Peter Jones and Bryan Butler were commentating if memory serves. Denis Law might have been in there as well.
RUREADY2ROLL Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 We took 12,000 to goodison, did not stop the scousers from attacking 13 year old kids. Will always hate those scum scoucers after that night. They were kicking our lot as we queued to get in and after the game it kicked off at our coach. A kid about 12 was getting a kicking right outside our coach and a few of us had to get off and have a go. They are scum from theive land
1969 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 only remember bits of the match at goodison only 7 at the time and shitting myself with them dirty robbin twats smackin anything that moved and a fuckin coppers horse stamping all over me after game
athywhite1958 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 There were a few of us from Athy were apprentices at Staveleys engineering and we went to the match at Goodison in our work overalls and flat caps , we were all 18 and thought, no, knew we were the dogs bollux
