Where is that reported? <img src='http://www.wanderersways.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':::lol:::' />

I've read this morning that we turned down a ?12m offer from Spurs. Either on BN or Sky Sports.

Doesn't mean it's true though. :pardon:

Mark Iles in BN reported we turned down a deal worth ?13m. Doesnt say if that was cash or players/cash

If it was cash he'd have gone.

If it was players, I imagine Coyle and Reknapp were some way apart on their valuations of, say, Bassong and Bentley.

id be suprised if Coyle and Redknapp had anything to do with negotiations.

So you think Gartside phones Coyle and says, "We've sold your best centre half for a bag of buttons and a quarter of midget gems. GOOD NEWS THOUGH!!! We've got you a crap replacement who'll fuck off to the African Nations in January and a winger who hasn't looked remotely interested in football for three or four years. Oh, and see if you can keep us up, eh?"

The quote from Redknapp of "too difficult to do a deal" makes me think it wasn't pure cash but related to a "package" which most likely involved swapsies somewheree; that's reading betweent he lines though and could well be erroneous

It may have meant that given the swapping of players and it was impossible to agree on the vlaue of the indiviuals soming to us, this is turn would make it difficult to work out the actual value of the deal.

If you do not know the actual value of the deal it would be hard to work out how big a bung Harry would expect.

Mate of mine believes the reason that the deal fell through was Coyle wanted Defoe plus cash

well there was that quote about it taking cash plus defoe for a player exchange to go through, though I imagine it was tongue in cheek and never entertained

I don't yet know, as he hasn't replied to my text asking "How much?" and "Who's you source?"

It may also have depended on when Spurs actually proposed to pay the cash element ......... now, in a year, in 3 years ....

Seems Spurs have run out of money at last, plus battered by Citeh.

And Arsenal won't spend, still in debt, and battered by ManU.

Once some of the top 5-6 start struggling, things might get interesting.

Or am I hoping for too much.

I think the clue is in the numbers 5 & 6. Both clubs will have budgeted to finish in the top 4, and cant afford not to. It now looks like they will be battling it out for the Europa League place if they are lucky.

And thats why Liverpool have thrown a shit load of money at the team this year, missed out last year cant afford to do it 2 year's running, now if they do they could be on the slippey slope like Leeds, or is that just me hoping
