jules_darby Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I'll show my arse if we turned down ?13m. Where is that reported? ::
Ani Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Hmmmmmm.... Squad numbers are up, but not sure we have any real quality in the squad with CYL and the Yank out. I not convinced by N'gog as have nt seen enough. I aint a moaner but not sure i share everyones deep joy today.
Piemon Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 therws no way we have turned down ?13m. my guess is that the bid wasnt in double digits therefore it was rejected
DazBob Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Where is that reported? <img src='http://www.wanderersways.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='::::' /> I've read this morning that we turned down a ?12m offer from Spurs. Either on BN or Sky Sports. Doesn't mean it's true though.
Horwich Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Mark Iles in BN reported we turned down a deal worth ?13m. Doesnt say if that was cash or players/cash
enzo gambaro Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Mark Iles in BN reported we turned down a deal worth ?13m. Doesnt say if that was cash or players/cash If it was cash he'd have gone. If it was players, I imagine Coyle and Reknapp were some way apart on their valuations of, say, Bassong and Bentley.
HomerJay Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 If it was cash he'd have gone. If it was players, I imagine Coyle and Reknapp were some way apart on their valuations of, say, Bassong and Bentley. id be suprised if Coyle and Redknapp had anything to do with negotiations.
Athywhite_Mike Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Mate of mine believes the reason that the deal fell through was Coyle wanted Defoe plus cash
HomerJay Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Mate of mine believes the reason that the deal fell through was Coyle wanted Defoe plus cash how much, a quid??
emus wig Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 just glad we didnt sign that tit bentley, what a nob jockey he is.
Athywhite_Mike Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 how much, a quid?? I don't yet know, as he hasn't replied to my text asking "How much?" and "Who's you source?"
enzo gambaro Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 id be suprised if Coyle and Redknapp had anything to do with negotiations. So you think Gartside phones Coyle and says, "We've sold your best centre half for a bag of buttons and a quarter of midget gems. GOOD NEWS THOUGH!!! We've got you a crap replacement who'll fuck off to the African Nations in January and a winger who hasn't looked remotely interested in football for three or four years. Oh, and see if you can keep us up, eh?"
jules_darby Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 The quote from Redknapp of "too difficult to do a deal" makes me think it wasn't pure cash but related to a "package" which most likely involved swapsies somewheree; that's reading betweent he lines though and could well be erroneous
Ani Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 The quote from Redknapp of "too difficult to do a deal" makes me think it wasn't pure cash but related to a "package" which most likely involved swapsies somewheree; that's reading betweent he lines though and could well be erroneous It may have meant that given the swapping of players and it was impossible to agree on the vlaue of the indiviuals soming to us, this is turn would make it difficult to work out the actual value of the deal. If you do not know the actual value of the deal it would be hard to work out how big a bung Harry would expect.
Zico Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Mate of mine believes the reason that the deal fell through was Coyle wanted Defoe plus cash well there was that quote about it taking cash plus defoe for a player exchange to go through, though I imagine it was tongue in cheek and never entertained

Rembrandt Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It may have meant that given the swapping of players and it was impossible to agree on the vlaue of the indiviuals soming to us, this is turn would make it difficult to work out the actual value of the deal. If you do not know the actual value of the deal it would be hard to work out how big a bung Harry would expect. It may also have depended on when Spurs actually proposed to pay the cash element ......... now, in a year, in 3 years .... Seems Spurs have run out of money at last, plus battered by Citeh. And Arsenal won't spend, still in debt, and battered by ManU. Once some of the top 5-6 start struggling, things might get interesting. Or am I hoping for too much.
HR Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I think the clue is in the numbers 5 & 6. Both clubs will have budgeted to finish in the top 4, and cant afford not to. It now looks like they will be battling it out for the Europa League place if they are lucky.

And thats why Liverpool have thrown a shit load of money at the team this year, missed out last year cant afford to do it 2 year's running, now if they do they could be on the slippey slope like Leeds, or is that just me hoping
