Jay-Jay Okocha is in his mid-forties, according to the Guardian...

Perhaps we can go through the paperwork for his contract and sue him for false information. We can then invest the money into the club. Everyone's happy.

Sammy Lee wasn't a great manager, but he got saddled with no backroom staff (thanks BSA), declining players and the need to buy a squad for Europe.

How much money was Sammy Lee given to "buy a squad for Europe"?

Not enough - seeing as he had to replace a glut of past-it players not replaced by Allardyce the season before.

Tuppence ha'penny that he spent on hasbeens and neverwases like O'Brien, McCann, Braaten and Wilhelmsson iirc.

The decline from top 6 material to the relegation battle started almost overnight. We went from drawing at Chelsea to losing at West Ham in a week.

Put your poxy ?100m away Eddie. Chicken feed wont keep us battling it out for a UEFA spot, a team like ours should be up there finishing above Chelsea in a European place.

Different era completely to when JJ was around, the more I think about it the more I prefer Burnely and Blackpools business model to ours.

would rather be like blackpool then?

with a chairman whos sole interest is making money for himself?

who currently still have a temporary stand at the side with portaloos despite last years premiership windfall? and played with two sides of a ground for over 10 years?

if it werent for the lucky bastard landing a diamond after going for the cheapest option possible in holloway, the club would still be pissing about in lower divisions....

give me two european adventures,a cup semi,a cup final, over a decade in the worlds best league and a ground to be proud of, any fucking day of the week.

if you ask any blackpool fan which would they prefer,im pretty sure of the answer.

Maybe clubs like everton give their best players new contracts and so sell platers like lescott for 25m while we sell players like cahill ( with contract running out) for 7m

I am almost 100% sure you can only sell a player for what someone is willing to pay......

We should sign him.

It's no more ridiculous an idea than having Faye back.

Apart from the fact Faye is still playing, and performing very well in the division we'll be playing next season. :rolleyes2:

How they chose to manage the club is not necessarily related ot their financial business model. I am not regretting or complaining about our recent successes (even though we found our own diamond in Allardyce), if I recall the debt was only around the ?25m mark for years of his sucess. The business model we have had over the last 4 seasons is unsustainable and we were financially nosediving just to make up numbers in the Prem.

Quite right, Swansea and Norwich have shown all be it for only one season that you don't need to have massive budget and survive, however I would have liked us to follow WBA model one that has not lead to massive debt and in the event of relegation a clean slate to start again, I'm sure that is where we need to be as a club. To do this Eddie Davies needs to write the debt off over the next few years so we can begin to forward plan.

Yep, agree with that. Get promoted, set a budget that shows a profit, accept relegation if necessary & the cash windfall, and start again.

"Yo-yo club" ? Who cares if we're not ?110m in debt.

i would settle for a year in the prem and a play off final every other season

yes, you are 100% right.. they were only prepared to pay 7m, and thats because his contract only had 6 months to run... understand now ?

I wouldn't say his work under Big Sam was wasted. There are some great memories and achievements from his playing days and to be fair I think we had reached the limit of what we could achieve by the time he left.

When Okocha came back from the African Nations with his new mini afro look hairdo, he got some form back and played very well in thaat period, he and Vaz Te impressed together in the same team. He was sensational in his first season, hard for any Bolton player to ever top that, second season, he just couldn't score in the Prem even with the most shots stat out of the entire League, but produced in the Cup

Next season he started with a blast, 2 brilliant goals v Charlton, 1 a bit of magic, the other an unstoppable free-kick, even though his tricks and skills lowered he still had a decent season, though his form did dip and he never got back to that quite unreal 1st season.

Last season was injury hit, remember him playing one of the greatest balls ever against Newcastle away, soon after he goes off injured, plays for Nigeria in ACON, plays well, comes back, gets his place back and for me deserved a contract extension, last game v Birmingham, we win 1-0, it would have been nice to have known that it would have been Okocha's last for Bolton, but we only find out after the game when we get home.

He deserved a send off, a thankyou, in this modern era, we';ll do better to find better than JJ, especially entertainment wise, sure players have done more, like K.Davies for example, but ability and value for money, Okocha was just that something magical that made him my all time favourite player.

It'll hurt when'if Lee leaves, but I doubt it'll be like when okocha left us. LEGEND, him and Youri were just phenomenal.

not really no because you are making it sound like we turned down multiple 25 million pound offers for him previously. the fact stands if nobody bids he won't go.
