What Brendan Foster won't mention today (because 1: he doesn't know, and 2: it is utterly un-newsworthy) is that it's 43 years ago today since he last beat me in a race (he was 5th and I was 7th at Pilk's Gala Mile), making the series record 4-0 (though he only won one of them, and that was a heat). It was the last poor run he ever had - within a year he had a Commonwealth bronze medal and had represented Great Britain in the European Cup in Zurich.

But I did read a book by Bob Tisdall about the Irish trip to the LA Games of 1932 (Tisdall won the 400m hurdles with the first sub 52 seconds run, and Dr Pat O'Callaghan retained the hammer title). Having sailed to NY they then had a 5-day train trip to LA. On that trip O'Callaghan used to have 16 eggs - before breakfast.
