tylswhite Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I heard from somebody yesterday that the new/temp coaching team had the players actually running in training and the players were breathing out of their fucking arses. Hopefully somebody has been in and smashed the table tennis tables up. Quote

It probably shows how stubborn oc was if training has been ramped up without a major personel change etc. Quote
Eavesy Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 What training where we doing when we was 8th in the prem? Or had Sturridge done so much at city and Chelsea he could run and score the goals for everyone else? Quote

I think oc's strong point was motivating players to give that extra bit more, which worked lovely when confidence was high and the team were winning more regular. It's now fairly apparent that this alone gets you nowhere. I completely bought into oc and even at the start of this season thought he would deliver the goods. Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 (edited) Interesting to hear this, surely with all the technology and records from previous player fitness stats and if this is true Coyle should have been working them hard to achieve the level of fitness required. From what can be gleaned from various sources Coyle did not do any defensive work it looks like his fitness work was lacking, we all know his team selection and man management was appalling, so in my opinion he should be sacked for gross misconduct and given no compensation whatsoever, furthermore why did it take so long for Gartside and Eddie to pull the trigger, it's probably the most damaging period of management at BWFC in my 35 years of watching our great club. miamiwhite Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 i can only assume that coyle brought his own methods and way of thinking along with him and totally ignored our highly regarded set-up. he obviously wanted to do things his own way and that was a disaster on the scale of Anzio. Thank god he wasn't allowed the time to see the fruitions of his long term vision,we'd have ended up playing Darlington, soory i mean getting drubbed by the Quakers in front of 50,000 on Haslam Park. the interim regime have given me hope again thankfully Quote
mannyroad58 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 My neighbour was a scout at Burnley and moved onto Sheff Utd when Coyle arrived. He told me when Coyle arrived at our place that it was a big mistake as being everyones friend can only stretch so far and tactically he was clueless but all the players like him and if he liked you then you had it made. His parting shot to me was "be warned" Quote
mickbrown Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Why anybody thought he would rip up trees this season is beyond me. Dropping down a division was never going to make him a better manager. Quote

Dropping down a division was never going to make him a better manager. Don't personally think it was the manager but the fact our squad was strong and only needed that 'motivation' from Coyle to have us playing well. Glad SL and JP have them training hard, the need a kick up the proverbial to get them into shape. Quote
Uncle Albert Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Think it was posted elsewhere the other day but our 3rd choice keeper tweeted that his legs were in bits after training on Friday. Quote
mannyroad vet Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Was listening to Stuart robson on talkshite the other week.he's still a well respected coach and has got his ear in with most clubs when it comes to coaching and he was saying as it was a good thing Cahill moved to chelsea when he did as in as good a man motivater Coyle is ....his coaching skills, especially defensively leave a lot to be desired Quote
HoldensHairdo Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Yeah, apparently Chelsea were shocked with how unfit he was when he signed for them Quote

Hopefully somebody has been in and smashed the table tennis tables up. If someone at the club has got them REALLY training hard at last, then your comments are no surprise. I've seen 3 non-league games this last 5 days (Conference, NPL Prem & NPL 1-Nth) and for none of the 6 teams involved was fitness an issue over the 90 mins. In fact their passing and movement was also far better than the Wanderers of the past 18 months. OC and his staff had serious shortcomings in several respects. Given that I saw 15 goals in the 3 games, maybe defences could be worked on though. Edited October 14, 2012 by Rembrandt Quote

Juan.Kerr Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 For a glowing example of OCs non intense training, waddle forward Mark Davies. Quote

As many have commented on here,we have a decent squad and just need to sharpen up and be organised a whole lot more. The extra yard in fitness and sharpness can just be the catalyst needed and i'm more confident now than in the last 18 months put together. We may not see wholesale changes in the starting X1 but i'm sure we'll see a different side on the pitch. Let's get behind the team and the temporary management, get the season started at last and get out of this poxy division ASAP Quote

jules_darby Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 If it is true in this day and age it's shocking Probably to the point of negligence Not deliberate in sure, as I have no doubt that OC had his heart in the right place, but it's dreadful all the same Which begs the question (if we really still care), how the chuff did he get Burnley up via the exhausting play offs if he employed the same methods? I just don't get it / him? Quote
MickyD Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 It's too easy for a manager to turn up at a club bringing all his backroom staff with him. Their income is totally dependant on keeping the manager sweet, not on keeping the team fit. if any of them had pissed Coyle off he'd have got shut. OC was just short of a right hand man with the balls to tell him where it was going wrong. Quote

A very good point and was it not rumoured that the club had asked Coyle to work closely with Sammy Lee on the Monday but by the Tuesday Eddie Davies returned and swung the axe. Quote
