presume this means our ground can't be sold off on the cheap and rented back and all that?

Bolton Council Decision on ACV Application

As BWFCST members will be aware, in December 2016 we made an application to the Bolton Council to have the Macron Stadium listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV).

We are pleased to confirm that today, Thursday 23 February 2017, Bolton Council have notified us that they have now approved our nomination.

Safeguarding the long term future of the club is the main focus of the BWFCST. The registration of the ACV status of the stadium provides the BWFCST members with an opportunity to influence any future sale of the Macron Stadium by being part of any such process. Having been witness to the sale of club assets leading up to the takeover of the club in March 2016 and the subsequent developments that still see BWFC experiencing ongoing financial stresses, we know all too well the importance of prudent control of assets still owned by the club.

The Macron Stadium now joins Anfield, Old Trafford, Ewood Park, The Valley, St Andrews, Bloomfield Road and Portman Road amongst other football stadia that have an ACV listing. We are also aware of several other clubs that have ACV nominations currently under consideration by their local councils and hope that all these clubs receive the same support and assistance that we have received from Bolton Council.

ACV status also ties in with the general belief that football clubs are of vital importance to their local communities and can be better protected when their supporters play an active role in the running of those football clubs. We are not, by any means, the first football supporters' organisation to pursue this route and we have consulted with other supporters’ trusts and Supporters Direct during the preparation of our application. Our submission to Bolton Council also received backing from local MPs and past players including Gudni Bergsson, John McGinlay, David Lee and Jussi Jaaskelainen and our thanks and appreciation go out to all involved.

This is a positive event in helping to safeguard the future stability and sustainability of our club and in ensuring the use of BWFC assets always has the greater good of our club as the main focus.

Further information about ACV status can be viewed in a Supporters Direct document already on our website or by clicking here

My understanding is that it allows em to bid to buy

Good luck finding 20 million

I think normal folk would say getting this status for the stadium is good news. Your not normal. :)

Still worth pursuing though despite no obvious way they could fund a purchase.

If the ground is sold by the owners, which is not inconceivable, then we are finished.

It gives them, if they chose, a six month period of exclusivity in which they can find a buyer or try to raise funds themselves.

In the grand scheme of things, the ACV means fuck all.

A bit like putting a plaster on Mark Davies' knee.

Didn't DH secure the loan on the stadium that pisses on his bonfire I'd think. Well done Bolton council and the ST. ????????

Ok thanks. It's not complete protection but better than nothing.

Another point is that while the ST make comment about the sale of assets around the time of the change of ownership, without those sales the likelihood is that we'd have, at best, gone into administration

Fair point but specifically on the stadium itself do you not think this is a good development considering our current uncertain future?

Nothing they've done would have stopped us selling one of our training complexes (!) or car parks! Pricks.

Eh?

The ACV has nothing to do with the stadium being used as collateral.

Blumarble would still be primary creditors.

Aren't these ACVs pretty worthless in reality.

If we went bust, what use is the Stadium if we reform in the same league as Atherton Colls  (I know it's not that simple)?  -  we wouldn't be able to afford the upkeep on it.....I'm not even sure we can afford the upkeep on it now in this division

I've long thought our stadium is a big issue

Fook knows what it costs to run

Maybe we would be better renting it from the council

First thing to do is close the top tiers, we don't need them at the minute =@

I saw one moonman's comment under the ST post on facebook the other day that was complaining that the exterior of the ground is a bit dirty and we really should be cleaning it.

Priorities and all that.

Gonzo has the equipment, I reckon he should do it before the next home game

It will cost a lot to run but its also an income generator, which ka has touched upon previously.

This income will form a greater proportion of income when we are in lower leagues.

Posted

it can create all the income you want, but if it doesn't turn a profit, its wasted effort

Absolutely, do those accounts shed any light on it?

I vaguely remember ka saying something along the lines of needing to maximise its potential- I'd assume that's why he's doing deals with heathcote etc.

These toy fairs wedding fairs etc are well attended and must generate a decent amount. I've done a few and they cost plenty to get in, and food outlets are open.

Like you said, ensure they are profitable and the money could be vital.

Pretty much

It was brought in under the guise of localism generally to 'protect' the last pub in the village or the post office, but whilst it sounded a nice idea it is pretty much worthless

Whlist Anfield is one there would be a queue of people looking to buy it, I doubt the ST, despite their self perceived importance, would come anywhere close to getting the macron. And if by magic they did then what?
