If you're reading Lenny (injuries and Vela contract bonus/behaviour permitted):-

Amos

Vela Prince Wheater Casado

Spearing

Pratley Davies

Feeney Madine Clayton

Like to see us try this 4-5-1 into 4-3-3 with Clayton and Feeney supporting Madine as much as they can while trying to conserve energy for defensive duties. Didn't go to Burnley but from what I understand it was working well until Spearing got injured. Football has changed since this system was everywhere but it never did us any harm under Allardyce. Obviously the standard has dropped somewhat mind.

I'd be happy with that team.

There is no need for Vela to play right back.

Wilson was ok, not sure about Pissano yet and Derik is decent from what I've seen.

Can Vela play up front ? That is more pertinent to our current predicament.

Pratley needs to go further forward, he is lost in the centre position.

Spearing and Davies would be good together and Pratley in front. This should be possible now Welly is injured.

Feeney Madine Clayton as the trio up top. We will be narrower but more effective as an attacking force.

Where did Pratley play in midfield last season when he was great? Was it wide left? Anyway, the midfield should be Mavies, Spearing, Pratley & Feeney IMO.

Pratley is definitely better in the roaming role, the Kevin Nolan type position (pretty much like when he was playing well last season).

I think Madine would benefit although he needs to get more mobile.

Feeney and Clayton would have to drop back in at times to make the midfield more solid but its not a bad home team set up.

I'd have Derik at right back over Vela, he is a better defender.

Vela would not have coped with Gray/Donaldson pace on Tuesday.

I thought he looked lost against Brum. Plus he spent most of the second half bickering with Feeney.

He played ok, there is bugger all wrong with the defence IMO. I would have Prince back in for Dervite though.

O my God I'm agreeing with Kent again! Funny how people see a different game but for me Derik didn't know where the hell Gray was most of the time and Donaldson was 'dealt' with more by Wheater & Dervite. He was worse than Vela in that position for me and that's the benchmark I'm using at moment. Wouldn't like to see him at full back in a hurry

Vela hasn't played there all season so it isn't a benchmark worth having.

I think lack of pace would have been a problem on Tuesday against Gray but we all see things differently.
