Timely and profound words.

Now all they teach kids is about what utter bastards the British have been.

I'd like to see those teaching this left wing dogma blindfolded and stood against a wall.

:D

So they should be taught history but only from the viewpoint that everything the British did was great?

Fair enough. I probably grew up in a generation that taught you about it with a proper passion

If you’re ever back go up Coal Pit Road as @Boby Brno says

Please don’t tell me you don’t know about Scotsman’s Stump either :D

Haha

I remember my dad learning that one from a mate at work & passing it on

I think a bit of a balance would be fair. While I’m antifa in some peoples eyes, I agree that teaching kids that they should be guilty from the word go is a bit bent

He’s surely on a wind up 😁

 But you never know.

For a start , history isn’t taught ‘all the time’. But it’s very peculiar behaviour wanting people taught one sided lies when looking at historical events. You’re not gonna get many rational thinking adults from that approach.

Then again, teenagers learn from Tik Tok these days, so we’re fcked.

Nobody teaches kids to be guilty 😂 where did you read that?

How has a nostalgic chat about Bolton’s history gone this way …. I’m blaming Bolty 😁

Sorry poorly messaged on my part. No idea on teachings but current culture defo has an element of self loathing. Hard for young minds in my opinion.

No worries

I guess it would depend on what you are referring to. Young people just don’t go around hating themselves because of ‘British history’.

It’s just another nonsense culture wars distraction deflecting from the real issues. (Not from you by the way)

Accessing social media before adulthood; mental health services in crisis; lack of youth centres & opportunities; an exam obsessed education system, housing … add to that list if you want.

You’re not going to solve any of those or improve the lives of young people by getting them to celebrate our glorious past in school.

I am not sure this the case. My lad is at school at the moment and is excelling in History. He isn't taught to feel guilty of anything and I wouldn't expect so.

Agreed, you are right and is defo a distraction tool but there is defo an element of crap spouted.

For example being told (not me solely) as a white chap I go on the defensive about historic Britain as I feel marginalised. No I just don’t feel the need to apologise for something that happened before I was born etc.

my brother is down from Edinburgh this week

took my mum into tow this afternoon

he tells me:

Eating at Bolton Food Hall.  Katsu Katsu do the best Japanese I’ve had outside of Japan.  Seriously recommended.

didn't even know town had a food hall, had a search, looks decent

Walked through it and it looks great. I’m not one to eat during the day so can’t testify to the food but others on here have.
I’ve said before, that side of town is really looking up and will hopefully, be the start of the regeneration.

Been to the food food hall a few times now, it's great. Yes it's not as fancy as some of the food halls in Manchester, but it's not trying to be. Folk always moan there's nowt in town but then never actually support things like this when they try.

Your brother is correct, the Katsu place is ace. There's an Indian place which was pretty good when I tried that, the Italian in there is great as well. Not tried it yet but there is a Chinese stall called something like "my chicken" or summert. Not tried that yet, it's next on the list cos there is always shit loads of Chinese folk in there eating from there, always a good sign.
