The bingo hall was in legal holdup for years, was supposed to be a hotel then the construction company did a midnight flit and it all went on hold. I think the council used new powers to CPO it and turned it into greenspace as has been a desire nationally for land left undeveloped for a long time.

Aye.

Just build on farms instead.

You young pup Frank, it's the Odeon

Saw ‘Herbie Rides Again’ there when I was young. Will never forget as my mum twatted some teenagers with her handbag who were causing trouble. Reminiscent of the old biddy at the wrestling that time on TV

Not really a town centre thing but been a Carrs aficionado for years. Pretty much every weekend I drive across to see my mum and pick up a couple of pasties.

Decided to try Hunters for a change for the last few weeks as my childhood memories of Molly Benthams pasties were nagging at me

Blimey!! Another level. Pricey but they are supreme

Yep.

Rather special aren't they.

Found it during my council days.

Do outside catering too (or at least used to).

They do, they did the catering for my dad's wake a couple of months back

Pasties were spot on

We used to call in Hunters when we'd taken a swim group to the Jubile pool. I seem to remember they did cheese (and onion ?) potato cakes which were great.

I got a pastie from Hunters a couple of years ago on the back of recommendations . Thought it was shit. Don’t rate Carrs either. Although they are not bad with peas and gravy for a bit of moistness 😀

Carrs are way over rated. Cost a fortune for the size of them. There, I said it…

Each to their own as ever. I like them. Always have. Like the variety they offer. Even the basic one is good imo. Lived over in Manc for the last 23 years and fuck me they have no idea how to make a pasty or a pie - thick pastry with a thin scrape of filling. Martins is the local one. Makes Greenhalghs look like a quality baker. Just fuck off!!!!!

All said and done. Hunters for me. Love Carr’s but not my favourite anymore

Hunter's is the thinking man's bakery. And only a 2 minute walk to Bolton's best chippy by a country mile, Bennett's Lane.

If you're ever that way, try Wilson's in Kearsley. Certainly heartburn potential, but very tasty too.

Cottage loaf up Tottington also do a great range of pies, especially varieties of meat ones.

Fraser's butchers do the finest meat and potato around.

Truly exquisite.
