maaarsh
4 British stage wins out of 7 so far. Adam Yates from Bury now in 2nd overall and best young rider jersey - hopefully not too hurt from the 1km to go banner collapsing on him, causing him to need stitches in his face -

maaarsh
Froome wins today, so technically 5 of 8 stages with British winners now, and we're holding 3 of the 4 jerseys.

maaarsh
Where are the drug stops these days? Football, tennis, distance running & cycling would probably be your main places to look, in more or less that order.

With Russia absent, Turkey currently top the medal table at the European Athletics Championships, above Great Britain and Germany. Righto. That's does surprise me....but then again as nobody gives a fuck about athletics and it's not reported in the media, anything could be going on. A one legged bloke from Luxembourg could hop the 100m in 5 seconds and absolutely nobody would give a fuck.....unless it was in the Olympics. Utter shit. A one legged bloke from Luxembourg could hop the 100m in 5 seconds and absolutely nobody would give a fuck.....unless it was in the Olympics. Utter shit. Roger Bannister was the nailed on favourite for the 1952 Olympics. Couldn't be beaten, according to the UK press. But instead of heats with a final two days later, a semifinal round was introduced - 3 races in 3 days for which he was unprepared. He finished fourth behind a (two-legged) Luxembourger, so instead of retiring with an Olympic gold as he had intended, he carried on for two more years in the hope of breaking the four-minute mile. I suspect the Sunday Times will have something to say about Turkey - if not this week then very soon.
Sweep
Malc...for once I have a half serious question. Why is it that the women's mile record is almost half a minute behind the men's. As a percentage of times, that's massive. Are all the other running record times the sane sort of massive difference (in terms of percentage)? MalcolmW
Malc...for once I have a half serious question. Why is it that the women's mile record is almost half a minute behind the men's. As a percentage of times, that's massive. Are all the other running record times the sane sort of massive difference (in terms of percentage)? If you take the men's record for any distance and add 12% you will get a good idea of women;s world record standard. In fact anything less than that needs looking at twice (sex, doping, whatever). The gap for the mile is higher (13.2%). Parts of this is that since metrication (1970) the mile has been raced far more often for men than women, largely because of the 4 minute mark. One year Paula Radcliffe ran the Marathon fastest than any British man, but that says more about the dearth in British male talent at that time than anything else. Many many years ago my Dad told me that women would become competitive with men at endurance races but not sprints. This, however, was based on a lifelong study of greyhounds, where similar power/weight ratios apply.
