True, but its why I mentioned before about how you define what a conspiracy is.  To me agencies conspired to hide the truth so i'd say that makes it a conspiracy,

Sometimes it's to cover up, sometimes to detract attention, sway public opinion - you could collude on pretty much anything.

For me the defining factor is have people in power worked together to hide something from the public to serve their own interests? If yes, then it's a conspiracy.

re. the last bit - if I put my tin foil hat on for a moment I think there's a wacko theory there about how it led to all seater stadiums and the birth of the Premier League - cui bono ;)

yeah, I guess for me it's only really a conspiracy theory if there aren't 000s of people who actually know the truth, but just aren't being listened to, like Hillsbrough - mind you, regardless the agenda clearly worked for a bit based on the threads on here

when it comes to things like the moon landings, twin towers, princess di etc there will only be a small number who would know if they were, and you'd never find out

I googled "conspiracy theories that proved to be true" and found this, to be honest, they are all a bit "so what"

http://www.infowars.com/33-conspiracy-theories-that-turned-out-to-be-true-what-every-person-should-know/

whereas most the ones we don't know either way (or more to the point, we laugh off as proposterious) would be massive if they turned out to be true

as Kent said, watch that Hypernormalisation, makes you realise there's plenty smoke and mirrors goes on, on a regular basis

and it makes me wonder

did Marc Almond really have his stomach pumped to discover semen from 25 different blokes?

I reckon it was well more than 25, the dirty, cum-guzzling, fairy queen :)

Interesting list that.  Although I find Alex Jones to be a raving baboon!  Stuff like MK Ultras and Watergate highlight just why we should, as a public, learn to be more critical and demand more balanced reporting.

Those with power will undoubtedly learn from such things and will be much more careful in future.  Manipulation of the masses is no new thing, it's been going on since Roman times, probably earlier than that.  The problem seems to be how you can make folk aware of this without seeming to be a loon!

I love a bit in Easy Rider where Peter Fonda says to Jack Nicholson "Freedoms what it's all about"

and JN replies, "Yeah but you go round telling people they aint free and they'll go and do a lot of killin and maiming just to show how free they really are!" (or sommat)

Gonna watch that programme later and will report back!

No mate but I will take your recommendation. WWays has never sent me wrong on TV/movie viewing.

It's more of a documentary that a film - but it tells the story of how Scientology manages to manipulate even seemingly intelligent folk into parting with huge sums of money - told through interviews of people who've eventually managed to 'get out'.

There's also lots of interesting stuff about Hubbard's time on the ocean waves that you allude to in an earlier post.

Bonkers.

Just watched that Hypernormalisation programme.

Very interesting.  I knew some of those things about the Wests involvement with Gaddafi but had no idea it was as involved as that!

I think the main point was highlighting just how the banks really pull the strings - even my Mrs agreed with me for once.  That and how 'perception manipulation' is a full time business.

Democracy my arse ;)

Oh I did get side tracked at one point by this:

oh the irony . . .

Watched a few of his things now, they're good but go off on tangents more than a Billy Connolly gig!

They're good vehicles for the music of Burial though, unusual stuff.

There's an Adam Curtis Bingo sheet somewhere on twitter, watch any of his docs and you'll pretty much complete it

Aye, my Mrs struggled to follow it a bit and I did think some of the imagery and tone was unnecessary - by that I mean he could have got the message across in a more cohesive and direct way.  Artistic licence maybe?

My Mrs asked a good question:  Given the subject matter, what was the point of the film then?

I liked it, mind; but given it was aimed at folk who would have some knowledge or interest in those areas, and would be lost on lots of others, it does seem a rather ironic piece.

I'll be seeking it out mate.

Developing a bit of a fascination - not for these master 'dupers' who manage to fleece people whilst convincing them it is for their own good but for the folk who get seduced by it. What would make a bloke like Tom Cruise believe in some mega nuclear explosion 75 million years ago slaughtering beings brought to Earth on a spaceship?. Old story of megastars searching for a meaning or have mind altering drugs had a part to play?

Nothing new in the zoo of course. Been many of these charlatans before, (particularly in the 'faith' arena) and if you look at political power rather than the financial, Hitler and the current North Korean leader are of the same ilk, nurturing personality cults to quench their thirst for omnipotence..

^ Good example of irony here.

I sometimes fall down youtube rabbitholes and spend ages watching videos posted by absolute loons

The last time I watched a load of headcases arguing the earth was flat. Very entertaining

Made up or not, they are interesting and Entertaining as fuck.

Rather watch some mad American youtube video than the shite on out TV most of the time.

I'm glad it's not just me :)

They're aren't the most entertaining ones per se but I quite like watching the real shit ones - where they show some random pictures on a loop of Greek statues, Egyptian hieroglyphs and a cow, or something else practically unrelated, and then speak in a weird monotone trying to explain how lizards from space had babies with Earthlings 1000s of years ago and now they rule the world from a base inside the moon.

The entertaining bit is trying to work out if when they made it thought 'Yip, That'l convince 'em!'  What level of mental are these people?

Good one here - links to a theory about the goo in Prometheus film being real and what the Falklands was really fought for!  :D

Its mental. Some of the blokes Instagram posts are bizarre.

But if you really wanna go down the rabbit hole, so to speak, you should check out The Coleman Experience. It reads like a Brass Eye script.
