He was everything I expected today.  Comfortable on the ball, neat, inventive, with an eye for a subtle pass.  Didn't tackle anyone all day, went missing for a lot of the 2nd half before being subbed.  A good player, but if he plays we are leaving out one of Morley, Sheehan, Matete, Lolos, CMG and Dempsey if he was fit (obviously not Tomo).  It also confirms that Arfield was a total waste of a signing and salary, and that Sharples Ahmed won't even get an odd 10 minutes here and there to get a feel for the 1st team.

Randall will contribute, but as a result other players won't get as much of a chance to contribute.  Its hard to make a case to say the difference between him and any of the alternatives is worth £1.2mil plus a big salary.

In fairness, the difference wouldn't be £1.2m, but £1.2m minus any fee paid for one of the others.

I'm confused...if we don't sign him, we have £1.2mil to spend on for eg a striker (even if that's in the summer), not £1.2mil less whatever Lolos etc cost?  Numerically we didn't need another midfielder as we have loads to choose from, and whatever we've spent on Randall is on top of anything spent on the others.  We've paid £1.2mil to upgrade on the current one's, most of which will be sat on the bench at best.

You referred to him as being £1.2m better than others.

That would mean £1.2m above what we paid for them.

Those we paid fees for therefore would have to have their value subtracted for mathematical accuracy.

I'm not looking for a heated debate here, just trying to work it out with my simple brain. 

If we bought a player for £1mil and sold another (eg Morley) for half a mil, I get that our outlay on the upgrade is only half a mil. 

But if we don't sell anyone, we've forked out £1 mil, and just added another player to the squad.

There's no suggestion we're going to claw back any of the Randall fee, if we do I'd agree with you, if we don't sell anyone we've paid £1.2 mil to have 2 of Morley, Sheehan, Matete on the bench and hoping Randall provides that extra value on the pitch.

I'll leave it there, let's hope he proves great value for money.
