Might help if we actually passed him the ball.

We've had a lot of shots from distance that skim past the post

Then look at Burstows goal v Plymouth, we've not done that much

Reading seemed to frustrate us the other night and give us no space but it's hard to tell if our forwards are looking for shots or crosses half the time

Duberry. In particular, seemed very narrow

Maybe I just didnt notice it v Plymouth?

SS must be hammering this home to his wingers between these two games.

For all their threat, as some folks have said, they wasted possession by trying to do too much instead of getting the ball into the middle.

Remember as kids, playing on some nearby patch of grass in schools holidays.

Always one with loads of dribbling skills, that kept his down, and ran around almost aimlessly with the ball.

Beat chance of "receiving" a pass would be when he eventually lost it.

Could have gone in for my tea, and come back before a pass was made.

Obviously not an exact comparison, but it's the point I made a week or two back.

And end product, more regularly, is the difference between a top wide man, and a lower level player.

Yep.

Inverted wingers seems to be an ploy these days. Another Pep effect?

Not much of a change, but if SS is determined to play like this, then why not 4-3-3? Certainly until we can get someone in for the McAtee role.

Another midfielder, such that any one of them can pop up in support, whilst still having protection behind.

Use the full backs as the width to provide crosses.

Its not so much that he cuts inside, he starts inside

But that might be to allow tutu the space

Aye that seemed to be the plan especially in the first half. Not so much in the 2nd.

Tutu was always the man widest and longest on the overlap.

Noticed Randall being furthest up quite a bit too.

I'd love to see us swap the wingers over even for just 20 mins or summet every now and then. My lads under 12s manager does it when their full backs have sussed the wingers out.

If it's good enough for Fylde Coast Soccer under12s .... :)

Just an off the wall thought but could we not try ACD in the more central 10 role running into the box at defenders and use the wing backs to fire in the crosses? Conway can certainly hit a mean cross and to be fair Cissoko looks like he can too. ACD may be small but he’s strong, doesn’t get knocked off the ball and has a low centre of gravity so might be worth a try?

I think that’s the idea. Interesting that we’re only talking about the right side, because I believe Conway is playing the left back role as Schumacher wants both sides to operate. As well as being effective defensively, he supports the attack and gets a few crosses in.

I'd say 3 reasons

1. He's spent his life playing as a winger. To now ask him to learn a new role would take a long time

2. He did it for 10 mins against Barnsley and barely touched the ball

3. Brighton would not be happy I wouldn't think, and our credibility would be shot when we then go trying to get loan players from other Premier League clubs.

... and I can't imagine Taylor bombing up in to space.

Fair play, all good responses, we’ll just have to try and get him to be a little less selfish and mix his undoubted dribbling talent with a little more team thinking.

did in preseason to be fair

Interesting to read SS is saying:

*still looking for a striker and one other player

*expects a few out and a couple in during the next fortnight - but crucially, that he doesn’t think we need to get rid of anyone before we bring in the players he wants

*that whilst he doesn’t have a problem with anyone in the current squad, he reckons those out of favour will soon work out that they need to move on - I.e. he expects them to jump without too much pushing

Difficult to second guess what position other than striker he is looking to recruit, but somehow I don’t think it’s a 10. I guess he’s putting his faith in Randall coming good - and TBF he was much improved in the second half on Wednesday until it all went tits up. Never know though.

Well let’s hope the outs are the ones we hope they are but I still have a sneaking suspicion one or more of our better players like Morley, Sheehan and even Johnston may depart. If it funds the purchase of stronger options then bring it on because I don’t think the current squad is just up to the task ahead.

Out of interest, are you big into conspiracy theories by any chance?

How do you get from “crucially he doesn’t need to get rid of anyone to get in the players he wants”, to your sneaky suspicion that we’re going to damage the squad, which you also declare is currently not up to the task ahead, by getting rid of 1 or more of 3 players who have already played a material part of the 4 games we’ve played so far?

No, the wingers went outside their markers v Plymouth

so, seemingly a schumacher tactic on tuesday

horses for courses or something he sticks with....

Plymouth activated the £1.2m buy out for Tolaj from Vale.

can’t say he’s one that stands out as being prolific but the lads I know down there say he sticks out like a sore thumb quality wise. Maybe doesn’t match the “profile” we’re after…

Conway and Cissoko worked quite well together considering it was there first go at it. On the other side it's where Cogley is arguably a better option than Tutu as he's got that rapid pace to get beyond ACD into the pull back position. I didn't think Tutu got beyond ACD that often on Wednesday. Downside though is Cogley's crossing is hit and miss.

Another £1mil plus L1 player that falls into the "who's he?" category.  Spent a lot of time not doing not a lot at the likes of Cambridge, Salford and Aldershot then one good season at Vale in L2.

If that’s supposed to be a question can you repeat it again in English only this time don’t add in bits you’ve just made up and instead quote directly?
