We didn't have a 10 role under Evatt. It was a 352 , two forwards. Neither was a 10. Mcatee tended to drop deeper and act like the 10, but he was still asked to be the main forward and run in behind.  Collins still drifted out wide a lot more often. He certainly did not drop in the hole between midfield and striker very often.

It's not that complicated with Randall. He's a 10. He's a perfect profile for a 10. He always played in the hole behind the forward(s) everywhere he's been.. I honestly don't think he could play anywhere else. He just couldn't play deeper ( known as a 6 or an 8). Doesn't have the defensive qualities or stamina to play deeper. Couldn't tackle a 10 year old. He couldn't play wide.

With Mcatee I honestly don't know where his best position is. Based on the small sample size I don't think he is a 10. He's not creative enough. I honestly think he's a striker. But he needs to play off somebody because he has a tendency to drop deeper. He didn't suit playing with Collins. He suited playing with devante cole at Barnsley who got 18/19 goals and stayed central,  whilst he chipped in with 12.

Oh yeah deffo. Lad must know he doesn't fit the template though so it may have made him think twice, who knows. Guess a level of self confidence is a pre requisite for a professional footballer, including adapting to styles that aren't natural.

A number 10 isn't a new position. 

If folk can't grasp the role of a number 10 then I'm not sure football is the game for them.

Collins liked to play off the left. He always has done.

He was sold because he was the only player of any value and the manager clearly didn't fancy him. 

He'd be no use in our team how we set up now. We've got fast attacking wide men now can beat a man.

He could well make a worthwhile contribution if we played 2 up front and was flitting around someone like Dalby, but I can't see SS resorting to that very often.

I’d still love to get Kenny if he was played alongside Dalby or Burstow as he can drop in and out of the 10 role and link play as well as score.

Dapo didn’t start for St Pauli but came on in 87th minute in draw with Dortmund yesterday so there are no obvious signs he’s on the move.

Why would the club do that when the squad already has Osei-Tutu. Gale. Mendes Gomes and Cissoko to provide glimpses of talent but not tthe end product.

He got taken out in the first minute and played the full half with his leg hanging off.

With him out the game that was us done.

We played through 2 months at the end of the season with Bod and Collins up front. That's why we didn't go up.

Never heard anyone say it.

A false 9 is a striker that doubles up as a 10 and drops deep like City used to play before Haaland.

A ten is a ten. Some drift, some don't. But they play behind the striker and dictate the attack.
