We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

I'm pretty sure we would get more points with Wheater in the squad

But if he was the difference between us getting Evans in, time to go

Who does that leave at cb

Zouma?

Who else?

Jason Lowe - who is also covering 9 other positions

That Thompson? Ex bury, sorry Berry, and Southend.

Hobbs been training & Brockbank can play CB...

If the summer's reporting has been accurate, Mr Lowe would probably try his best to do just that

Precisely - and always appeared to be the chief instigator. Fuck him. But also thanks for some good memories. But mainly fuck him.

An instigator! Unless he was the one nabbing all the wages and lying to the rest of the players every day, I'm not sure he instigated anything.

I'd have liked to have kept him. Popular with the fans, popular with the other players. Big character. We need all of those things. But, we're getting a whole new squad tomorrow, so happy to see how it pans out.

^ agreed.

He's given us good service over several years and I wish him well.  I'd have been chuffed to keep him for another year but it probably makes financial sense to let him go now.

I'd have thought as club captain he was also the spokesman for the other players. If that makes him instigator then I'm at a loss as to how a spokesman would be anything but an official instigator.

Is this reputation as ' instigator' unfair?

Sure he was an influential figure, but Andy Taylor was the 'Union Mon.'

He has gone..Wish him well.

Wish Wheater all the best, good pro and sad to see him leave.

A personable enough guy but forever linked with the shittest period in club history. Suffered relegation three times too. Fuck him off as a fucking legend. My arse

Gudni Bergsson was relegated with us twice but is still picked in all time great Bolton elevens by many supporters..

Wheater's record is something like played in 236 out of 425 possible games, rough estimate makes that about £25000 an appearance. That's modern football in a nutshell I reckon.

How’ve you come to that figure?

Total rough guess - average of 12.5k a week for 8 1/2 years.

More at the start, less at the end, bonuses as well.

Might well be way off the mark of course.

Nowt against the lad, but he was down bradshawgate at 3am during preseason

😂

His transfer fee was around £3m

I liked wheater and it's a shame he's gone.

Won't lose any sleep over it, isn't he the last connection to our Premier league days?

Wheater shouldn't be uttered in the same sentence as Gudni

Gudni was relegated from the premier league twice. Wheater has been part of 2 of the worst sides we've had in our history. Both championship relegations have stunk to high heaven with the players responsible for them. I won't lose sleep about getting rid of any of them

Nixon saying we are having Josh Earl from PNE on loan, 20 yr old defender.

We are in turmoil, players only being paid today for the 2nd time this year, -12points at least and yet we're still a more attractive proposition than going to Tranmere

Wish Wheater all the best.
