He was undroppable first half of the season. 

Rested and interchanged with others the second.

For me Evatt is still looking for his best forward line up- on his day you'd put Dapo in there, but it's not always the case.

A bit of a quandary for the manager and the player.

Stay and keep improving next season and really put himself in the window for a big move, or go in the summer whilst his stock is high now.

The former might not work out however depending upon how Evatt sees things panning out and his stock may drop. The latter might not work out neither as he may not be ready for a higher league just yet.

For me, he may be our most saleable current asset, but in Morley I reckon there is someone who could go further.

I feel a bit sorry for Dapo. The move of shape Evatt adopted after Christmas has meant our best attacker has been played out of position a great deal and often rotated. The reasons have been fair enough but he's become more bit-part than he deserves.

That may have meant he's less exhausted than he might have been. It was possible he'd have found a new niche but it really hasn't worked out that way.

I'm not aware that he's whinged about this  or played up at all, but it's seemed like we've been softened up for his departure. Obviously not if we'd gone up but he may feel there's not time to delay given his relatively late age to break through. Especially if he's going to otherwise be asked to play out of role and rotated.

I'd love him to stay though.

Dapo is a championship player all day long. He’s not half had to put up with some rough stuff, bad treatment from refs booking him for telling them he’s getting booted and being shifted around systems because he’s too good to drop on his day.

I’d love him to stay but if he did go, and we could re-invest the income on players, imo, with the way our recruitment has gone recently, that would give us the clout to get 4 or 5 players in who would turn us into serious challengers for the top 2

Even though the officials have been poor dapo at times doesn’t help himself he certainly knows how to draw a foul, clever yes but refs won’t always give them

Aye, while he’s not blameless he must have had 8 or 9 bookings this season which is ott for me. That booking at Crewe for getting thrown over the hoardings was the worst booking I’ve seen in ages

Agreed.  If we were playing Man City away, yes its all about the midfield and defence defending well.  If we're playing Accrington at home the main job of a wingback, or even a full back in a 4-4-2, is to get involved in building attacks.  And defending when needed, that's modern football.  John's great offensively but not the best defensively with his limited height and strength, presumably that's where someone like Iredale would be useful as an alternative. 

I know times and circumstances have changed, but what did get for Cloughy, £3.5m?

Dapo’s ceiling is much higher in my opinion, injuries or not. I’d be disappointed to not get £4m+ if we were to sell.

Agree with you there. I think Dapo and Santos will still be here next season unless we see bids of 5m+ for them come in

I think Dapo is of the kind of age where we are entitled to demand really decent money. This last season has been his first full one in the professional game, but that's under his belt now.

One of the things that would make up such a valuation is how many clubs are interested. Clubs always say they don't want to get involved in bidding wars but to some degree competition is going to hand leverage to the selling club. 

Specifically on Dapo: I don't think we'd get a Prem club interested. More than half of the Championship clubs don't have the brass unless they've made a big sale of their own. I think the dangerous ones for us are recently relegated sides. This year's likely crop being Burnley/Everton, Norwich, Watford and last year's (still with good parachute payments), WBA or Sheff Utd. Cardiff? Don't think they'd have the cash to tempt us.

Thing is, clough had championship experience, a 1 in 3 record and was 2 years younger, and had 2 full seasons under his belt 

Dapo has one at L1 level 

Be amazed if we got over 2.5m, if we did sell this summer

I agree Wingbacks don’t need to be top defenders, that’s why they have 3 centre backs doing the defensive stuff for them.

Sharon is a very good business lady, I’ve got the full trust she will get what the club think is the correct worth for any player.  If we did sell I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t let anyone go without holding out for the correct sum, and if a clubs got sacks of cash she’ll want as much as possible for our rebuild.   In Sharon we trust.

I’m in the same boat and it feels quite strange after having no trust in at least one of either owner/manager for so long.

I completely trust that a player will only be sold if it’s the right thing for the club, and we get the right amount. I also trust Evatt, from his record so far, that if we do lose a player because the offer was too good to turn down, then he’ll know exactly who we should get in to replace them. Agree 100% I’d be more worried if we lost Evatt rather than any player. 

Interesting little additional line in the MEN piece this morning when compared to the BN. Evatt refused to rule out between five and eight summer signings.

I think Chris Markham & his team have played a very under-stated role this season, identifying and acquiring players to fit Brand Evatt/football the Bolton way.
