What's our collective opinion on Burnham then?

I think he's done well as Mayor of Manchester and his heart usually seems in the right place (for me at least).

He's another that usually gives straight answers.

I'd like to see a northern powerhouse of him, Raynor and Lisa Nandy (who I'm a big fan of - obviously despite her Wigan credentials).

He has bolloxed the roads up in his current role......Will bollox the country up

So just after Farage receives £5m he buys a house for £1.4m in cash

Yet let's his wife buy a house with no income

I’m surprised given he’s such a man of the people 🙄.

Safe to say puts Starmer’s glasses and even Boris’ wallpaper into perspective.

Streeting is decent - folk should have a look into his background, very interesting.

But it appears more folks like those who are born with silver spoons telling them what to do whilst taking nice chunky payments from their mates.pushing theor agendas.

Ah well.

Streeting is a Tory in red clothing and has made some huge fuck ups in the NHS.

We know about his background because he mentions it in every twatting interview 😁

In what way do you think he bollocksed the roads up? They seem pretty much identical to me.

But if you've got an economy doing nicely and it doesn't grow then you're maybe not that bothered

If you've got an economy doing shit, it grows a bit to less shit it's not that great

A bit like Burnley winning thinking they would stay up because they picked up more points than Arsenal

I'll take whatever positives I can. Things might just be starting to turn the corner as these things do take time.

Let's see if it continues.

It's positive but just saying comparing it to other countries isn't giving it context

Hilarious if Greens get in!

The constituency is 98% white, Reform are the danger to him here. 'Only' a 5K majority but you'd think Burnham is local enough to win.

I know. It's more nuanced than that. But it does suggest that for now at least - we've been robust enough to maintain decent performance despite what's happening in Iran. When we'd been widely predicted to be the country most at risk from negative impacts in the G7

It'd certainly piss on the collective bonfire!

He left Westminster because the heat was on... fiddling £17k per year (2015 prices) for rental expenses

It'd be ace if the Greens and Conservative party said they're not going to contest the seat

The question now. Is the NEC stupid enough to block Burnham from standing in the Makerfield constituency? They might be. 😀

More popcorn required, I do believe.

Reform was the second largest party there in 2024.

Might be wrong, but I think the last by-election (Runcorn iirc) Labour's majority may have been higher than this one, but was lost.

There is no guarantee that Burnham wins it.

Looking at the seat for the local elections, Reform won it from Labour. It’ll be interesting to see who Reform put up. They will have to be squeaky clean because of the amount of scrutiny they will be under.

Growth per se is vanity. Nothing more.

Per capita is better, but even then far from reality.

The country can have a massive GDP, but if the government is spanking away far more than the tax yield from that GDP, it's immaterial.

Just get broke.
