But surely that’s why ours; and every other nuclear super power IS a deterrent. If only Russia had them then they’d face no deterrent.

That’s cheese‘s point Micky. We have to have them because others do. If we don’t we are a sitting duck.

But its stalemate

Which is why everyone should stop pumping billions into nuclear deterrents and spend it on something more worthwhile like pandemic prevention

Bill Gates had it right, it'll be a virus and not nuclear war that wipes us all out

Everyone should agree to stand down, and just keep a couple of missiles spare pointed at North Korea, just in case

Obviously, but that's never going to happen. Eternal Stalemate is better than the alternative.

You're right, they should.

However, given Putin behaviour with chemical weapons in recent times, no one could trust Russia.

North korea and Iran don't give a cause for optimism either.

Aye

Then again

The alternative, imo, will never happen

What a fucking waste of money

Chicken and egg I suppose. Too late now though. Even recent History is chock full of people who didn't think certain things could ever happen to them.

Aye

The same can be said for most of the issues our planet and the human race faces

Indeed. 9/11 is already a distant memory. Something like that could never happen today, could it? Meanwhile, there are Concenration Camps in China...

And in the grand scheme of things why should we give a fuck as most of us will be dead within 50 years

That's not how Congress works, but you already know that. Donald isn't a "Supreme Leader".

Because their effectivity relies on them not taking an extra week to return to dock when they have a maintenance issue. Our nuclear deterrent operates on an exteremely fine line as it is. It doesn't matter.

A week? Are they rowing it?

Seriously, do some reading. A submarine armed with nukes travelling from the North Sea to Plymouth because they have a tech issue is not going to happen quickly.

The missiles do 15,000 miles an hour. And you can launch them from wherever you want can't you?

Yeah. We should just build a nuclear missile silo in Newcastle.

Is it alright if I just listen to friends who've done the trip instead?
