Wanderers Ways. Neil Thompson 1961-2021

Fell asleep watching Jaws last night, and woke up half-way through a 'Making of' documentary. I'd never heard Robert Shaw speak in his normal voice before. Can definitely detect a bit of a Lancastrian twang. Slightly surreal hearing him speak like that like while dressed as Quint. Makes his performance even more incredible to me, and it was already one of the best of all time.

Best monologue ever put to film, and he pretty much wrote it. Probably the wrong thread, but fuck it.

Just listened to a discussion on this on a podcast. Didn’t know that Speilberg had a team of writers who originally wrote that monologue. Robert Shaw reckoned he could do better and went away and wrote it himself and Spielberg agreed

I might've listened to the same podcast, which is probably what made me put Jaws on the other night. No idea what podcast it was though.

Justin Moorhouse I reckon. Think we’ve listened to “a same thing” previously on his podcast

It was! Nice one. Think it was the "What's it all about, Alfie?" bit.

He ad libbed and changed a bit of his script including his "song"

"Gonna need a bigger boat" was improvised as well by RS

Dreyfuss tells interesting stories about the filming of it all as well

Like they'd go to film a scene and there'd be someone off in the distance in a sail boat so they'd have to sit and wait for it to sail out of shot

Then just as they got ready to shoot another would appear

Didn't he die fucking ages ago?

Aye, I don't ever recall seeing him looking as ill as that though, had a look, short battle with cancer in 2019

The battle must've really taken us toll or he was wasting away for years

Yeah but he's a chirpy chippy greengrocer from from Peckham, supports Millwall and all the women who hate him are all of a certain age and class

Sadly I think people will pay thinking that they are talking to him and it's just a bot

You do wonder, what people actually think they'll be getting for their money,......
